Quick Overview

When Saatva was established in 2010, the company set out to upend the luxury mattress marketplace with a bed that doesn’t break the bank. Currently, Saatva offers two innerspring mattresses:

  • The brand’s flagship mattress, the Saatva (also known as the Saatva Classic), is a coil-on-coil innerspring constructed with polyfoam, memory foam, and recycled-steel pocketed coil comfort layers. The support core features bonnell coils, while the Euro-style pillow-top cover is made of organic cotton padded with polyfoam. The Saatva is available in three firmness settings – ‘Medium Soft’ (4), ‘Medium Firm’ (6), and ‘Firm’ (7.5) – as well as 11 1/2″ and 14 1/2″ profiles.
  • Saatva’s newest mattress, the Saatva HD, is an innerspring specifically designed for sleepers who weigh at least 300 lbs. Its comfort system includes a layer of zoned Talalay latex, which offers variable support to different areas of the sleeper’s body, along with additional memory foam and polyfoam comfort layers. The support core features offset coils buffered with high-density polyfoam columns, along with a high-density foam base. The organic cotton cover is padded with 2″ of polyfoam, as well. The Saatva HD is considered ‘Firm’ (7). The Saatva HD has a 15 1/2″ profile.

Saatva mattresses are made from environmentally-friendly materials, making them suitable for eco-conscious shoppers. They also provide strong edge support – even by innerspring mattress standards – and sleep exceptionally cool. The Saatva’s wide selection of firmness and thickness options make it suitable for most sleepers regardless of their weight or sleep position, while the Saatva HD has a firm feel and thicker-than-average profile that makes it especially well-suited for heavier people.

Saatva offers free White Glove delivery to all customers in the contiguous U.S. Most competing brands charge at least $100 for this service, which includes in-home bed assembly and old mattress removal. Both beds are backed by 120-night sleep trials; the Saatva comes with a 15-year warranty and the Saatva HD comes with a 20-year warranty. Read on to learn more about the Saatva and Saatva HD mattresses.

Please note: Saatva also manufactures the Loom & Leaf memory foam mattress, the Zenhaven reversible latex mattress, and the Solaire airbed. To learn more about these models, please visit our Loom & Leaf Mattress Reviews, Zenhaven Mattress Reviews, and Solaire Mattress Reviews guides.

Sleep Rating

Durability
Fair

Most innerspring mattresses last between six and seven years, and Saatva mattresses seem to be on par with this lifespan. However, Euro-top construction is generally linked to below-average durability.

Motion Isolation
Fair

Like other innersprings, the Saatva mattress does not absorb or minimize motion to a significant extent. This may be problematic for certain sleepers, such as couples who share a bed, since minimal motion isolation can lead to sleep disruptions.

Conforming
Good

Saatva features coil-on-coil construction and memory foam in the comfort layer. This allows the mattress to conform more closely and relieve pressure to a greater extent than many competing innersprings — but all-foam and latex mattresses are considered the best option for sleepers that prefer close conforming and targeted pressure relief.

Sex
Very Good

The Saatva mattress is highly responsive and fairly bouncy, although the ‘Plush Soft’ and ‘Luxury Firm’ designs tend to be better for sex than the ‘Firm’.

Temperature Neutrality
Very Good

Mattresses that contain foam and memory foam tend to sleep the hottest. Saatva has a more traditional innerspring construction so our testing along with data analysis show that it's one of the cooler mattress options on the market today compared to all-foam competitors.

Off-gassing
Good

The Saatva mattress emits some off-gassing (due in part to the polyfoam and memory foam layers), but most owners report that the odors dissipate within three to five days of unpackaging the mattress.

Edge Support
Very Good

Innerspring mattresses tend to have optimal edge support and the Saatva is no exception. Customers report a consistent sleep surface (no-roll off when sleeping towards the edge) as well as above-average push back when sitting on the edge of the mattress.

Noise
Good

Roughly 7% of Saatva owners cite noise as a complaint. This is on par with noise complaints from all innerspring owners.

Sleep Rating

Durability
Good

The Saatva HD is constructed with components that make it more durable than other innersprings, such as a firm latex comfort layer and low-gauge offset coils. The expected lifespan is roughly seven to seven and a half years.

Motion Isolation
Very Good

The Saatva HD isolates more motion than most competing innersprings, largely due to its thick comfort system with latex, memory foam, and polyfoam layers, along with a foam-padded cover.

Conforming
Good

The Saatva HD is a 'Firm' mattress that conforms to a minimal extent; it is ideal for heavier sleepers weighing more than 230 lbs.

Sex
Good

The Saatva HD is fairly responsive, but couples seeking an exceptionally springy bed will likely be more satisfied with a bed containing fewer comfort layers.

Temperature Neutrality
Very Good

Strong airflow through the coil layer helps keep the Saatva HD cool and comfortable for naturally hot sleepers.

Off-gassing
Good

Off-gassing may occur when the Saatva HD is new but odors dissipate rather quickly.

Edge Support
Very Good

High-density foam rails buffer the coil layer, giving the Saatva HD very strong edge support.

Noise
Good

The bed's offset coils can be somewhat loud, but overall the Saatva HD does not produce more noise than the average innerspring.

What Type of Sleeper Is Best Suited for a Saatva Mattress?

Based on our customer feedback, Saatva mattresses received the following grades among sleepers of different weights and preferred sleep positions. Please note that these ratings are subjective, and that everyone has varying experiences on different mattresses. The Saatva flagship mattress is offered in three firmness settings: ‘Medium Soft’ (4), ‘Medium Firm’ (6), and ‘Firm’ (7.5). This range should accommodate most sleepers in the average and heavy weight groups, as well as most lightweight back and stomach sleepers. The bed’s thicker-than-average 11 1/2″ or 14 1/2″ profiles are well-suited for heavier individuals, as well. The Saatva HD is specifically designed for sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds; its ‘Firm’ feel and thick 15 1/2″ profile provide extra support for heavier individuals.

Our testing process found Saatva mattresses should also be great for you if…

  • You prefer to sleep on innerspring mattresses
  • You tend to sleep hot
  • You experience aches and pains in your lower back and hips
  • You like sleeping on beds with padded Euro-top covers

Burns, cuts, stains, and other types of physical damage that occur due to owner misuse, improper cleaning, or inadequate support.

7. Customers must notify Saatva in writing regarding any claims.

How Does the Saatva Compare to Other Beds?

As any good consumer does with a product they’re considering, our mattress assessments always incorporate comparisons with similar products. No matter if it’s composition, firmness, or price, we think it’s important to see how the Saatva stacks up to other mattresses.

The Saatva mattress is available in three firmness settings and two profile options, which allows most sleepers to select a supportive, comfortable design regardless of their weight, position, or preferences. The Saatva and the Saatva HD are also more sophisticated than most competing innersprings, due to their thick, multi-layer comfort systems and robust support cores engineered for resilient edge support. Other benefits include great temperature neutrality and above-average back pain relief. In terms of pricing, the Saatva is much cheaper than the Saatva HD.
