What You Need to Know about the Saatva Mattress

Mattress Type and Components:

  • Saatva offers innerspring mattresses.
  • The comfort layer features layers of polyfoam, memory foam, and 14.5-gauge pocketed coils.
  • The support core is constructed using helical-connected hourglass coils encased in foam. Paired with the comfort layer, this configuration is referred to as coil-on-coil construction.
  • Saatva mattresses also come with a Euro-top for added cushioning and a cover made of organic cotton.

  • Coil-on-coil construction provides better support and more body-contouring than most standard innersprings.
  • Multiple thickness and firmness options available.
  • Eco-friendly construction features recycled steel, bio-based foams, and organic cotton in the cover.
  • Strong edge support.
  • Responsive and bouncy enough for sex.
  • Free full-service delivery, a 120-night sleep trial, flexible warranty, and strong customer service.

  • Average to below-average durability, and a short lifespan compared to non-innerspring mattresses.
  • Mattress is considerably heavy and difficult to move or rotate as recommended.
  • Little to no motion isolation.
  • High profile may cause difficulty for some when getting in or out of bed.

Product and Price Range: Saatva mattresses are offered in six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. These range in price from $649 (Twin) to $1,399 (King and California King). Two height options (11 1/2″ and 14 1/2″) and three firmness settings (Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm) are available for all six sizes. Mattress size is the only factor that affects the cost of a Saatva; there is no price discrepancy between different thickness and firmness settings. All Saatva mattresses are manufactured in the U.S. or Canada.

Saatva Customer Satisfaction Rating Comparison

Saatva Mattress Sleeper Ratings

CategoryCriteriaSaatva RatingWhat Saatva Users Say
Customer SatisfactionBased on data collected, this is an overall customer sentiment regarding the Saatva Mattress.76%Saatva customers have received an above-average customer satisfaction rating compared to other innersprings. This rating is due in part to Saatva’s reputation for strong customer service, as well as mattress performance.
DurabilityThe average mattress will perform for seven years before it needs to be replaced.FairMost innerspring mattresses last between six and seven years, and Saatva mattresses seem to be on par with this lifespan. However, Euro-top covers are generally linked to below-average durability.
Motion IsolationMattresses that are overly responsive will create excess motion when someone gets up or shifts positions in bed, while others isolate the motion to that person’s area of the mattress.FairLike other innersprings, the Saatva mattress does not absorb or minimize motion to a significant extent. This may be problematic for certain sleepers, such as couples who share a bed, since minimal motion isolation can lead to sleep disruptions.
SexBouncier, more responsive beds tend to be more enjoyable for sex.Very GoodThe Saatva mattress is highly responsive and fairly bouncy, although the ‘Plush Soft’ and ‘Luxury Firm’ designs tend to be better for sex than the ‘Firm’ setting.
ConformingMattresses that conform to a sleeper’s figure tend to provide more spinal support and pressure-point relief.GoodSaatva features coil-on-coil construction and memory foam in the comfort layer. This allows the mattress to conform more closely and relieve pressure to a greater extent than many competing innersprings — but all-foam and latex mattresses are considered the best option for sleepers that prefer close conforming and targeted pressure relief.
Temperature Neutrality‘Sleeping hot’ is a common complaint about beds that retain too much body heat, causing discomfort throughout the night.GoodMattresses that contain foam and memory foam tend to sleep the hottest. Saatva mattresses contain memory foam in the comfort layer, making them a hotter than other innersprings (which are generally considered the coolest sleeping option). The Plush Soft design reportedly sleeps the warmest because sleepers tend to sink more deeply.
Off-gassingSome mattresses emit particles when they are unpackaged, accompanied by unpleasant ‘off-gassing’ smells that can last for days.GoodThe Saatva mattress emits some off-gassing (due in part to the polyfoam and memory foam layers), but most owners report that the odors dissipate within three to five days of unpackaging the mattress.
Edge SupportThe frame of an innerspring mattress is encased to support the springs and provide a suitable sleeping surface.Very GoodInnerspring mattresses tend to have optimal edge support and the Saatva is no exception. Customers report a consistent sleep surface (no-roll off when sleeping towards the edge) as well as above-average push back when sitting on the edge of the mattress.
NoiseInnerspring mattresses tend to be somewhat noisy due to their high levels of bounciness and responsiveness, as well as squeaky metal components.GoodRoughly 7% of Saatva owners cite noise as a complaint. This is on par with noise complaints from all innerspring owners.
Ease of Moving and RotatingAll mattresses are relatively heavy, but some can be more unwieldy than others.PoorSaatva mattresses are significantly heavier than the average innerspring, and must be rotated once per year for optimal performance. This will require at least two people.
