As an innerspring, the Saatva Classic is the cooler, more supportive option.
Both options are fairly affordable and are backed by generous sleep trials and warranties.
Casper vs. Saatva Classic Overview
Casper vs. Saatva Classic Overview
Casper has been in business since 2014. The brand’s flagship model, the Casper, features a three-tiered comfort system with layers of polyfoam and memory foam, as well as a high-density polyfoam support core. This bed is considered ‘Medium’ in terms of firmness, ranking as a 5.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale.
Saatva first launched in 2010 and began selling mattresses the following year. The brand’s flagship bed, the Saatva Classic, is an innerspring mattress constructed with polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers, a transitional layer of pocketed coils, and a bonnell coil support core.
The mattress also has an organic-cotton Euro-top cover padded with roughly 2 inches of foam. The Saatva is available in three firmness settings – ‘Medium Soft’ (4), ‘Medium Firm’ (6), and ‘Firm’ (7.5) – as well as 11 1/2 inch and 14 1/2 inch profiles.
Though the Casper and Saatva Classic mattresses are constructed with different materials and offer distinct sleep experiences, they have earned comparable owner reviews in several categories. This page looks at the unique benefits and disadvantages of using a Casper or Saatva mattress, along with the customer policies and overall reputation of both brands.

The Casper is built with a strong support system that gives it a longer-than-average expected lifespan of about seven years, though some body impressions may form over time.

Off-gassing

Most new products emit chemical smells after being removed from packaging. Off-gassing odors are considered non-toxic, but can be quite unpleasant nonetheless.
The Casper may emit moderate off-gassing when new, but persistent odors should not be a major issue.

The Casper offers comfortable conforming and targeted pressure relief for most sleepers, particularly lighter side and back sleepers.

Temperature Neutrality
x
The temperature of a mattress throughout the night is affected by how much body heat is retained. Several factors affect temperature neutrality, including material composition, layer thickness, and dissipation of heat through airflow.
Casper mattresses absorb minimal body heat and sleep fairly cool compared to other memory foam mattresses.

Edge Support
x
The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.
The Casper offers good edge support due to its thicker support core, but some sinkage around the perimeter is likely over time.

Noise
x
Certain mattresses – particularly those with coils – can be quite noisy when bearing weight. Others are nearly silent. Material composition is often the limiting factor for noise potential.
Casper mattresses are virtually silent when bearing weight.

Sex
x
Mattresses that are bouncier and more responsive tend to be better for sex, as they’re easier to change positions on. In contrast, unresponsive mattresses can cause couples to have trouble switching positions.
Our testing indicates that The Casper isn't particularly responsive or bouncy, given it's construction. This may make is insufficiently bouncy for some couples, but this is on par with other mixed-foam beds.

A measure of how effectively a mattress absorbs motion across its surface, preventing partner disturbance.
Like other innersprings, the Saatva mattress does not absorb or minimize motion to a significant extent. This may be problematic for certain sleepers, such as couples who share a bed, since minimal motion isolation can lead to sleep disruptions.

This refers to the degree to which a mattress molds to or cradles the contours of the body. This helps alleviate pressure point pain, especially on the hips and shoulders.
Saatva features coil-on-coil construction and memory foam in the comfort layer. This allows the mattress to conform more closely and relieve pressure to a greater extent than many competing innersprings — but all-foam and latex mattresses are considered the best option for sleepers that prefer close conforming and targeted pressure relief.

Sleep Position Ratings
The Casper Mattress
The ‘Medium’ feel and 12-inch profile of Casper mattresses is optimal for sleepers who weigh 230 pounds or less; heavier individuals may find the sleep surface too soft, which can make getting in and out of bed somewhat difficult. The mattress offers very good motion isolation and produces no noise when bearing weight, making it a great choice for couples, as well.
The Saatva Classic
Because it is available in multiple firmness and thickness options, the Saatva has earned favorable ratings from sleepers in most weight and sleep position categories. However, some lighter individuals may find the profile too tall. The Saatva provides moderate motion isolation and produces minimal noise; comparatively, most competing innersprings provide little to no motion isolation and can be fairly squeaky. Good airflow throughout the coil layers and the organic-cotton cover also help the mattress sleep cool and comfortable for most.

Mattress Construction
Now let’s see how the Casper and Saatva mattresses are made. The next table lists firmness, thickness, weight, and composition specs for both beds.
The Casper’s comfort system is designed with top and bottom layers of polyfoam, as well as a middle layer of memory foam. These components offer a ‘Medium’ feel and close body conforming, which can improve spinal alignment and alleviate pressure points throughout the sleeper’s body – particularly for individuals weighing 230 pounds or less. A high-density foam support core helps keep the sleep surface even and free of uncomfortable sagging.
At 12 inches thick, the Casper has a profile that is about average for a mattress. It is also much lighter than many competing all-foam models. A queen-size Casper weighs 71 pounds. As a result, most owners have little trouble lifting the mattress and rotating it as recommended.
How Is the Saatva Built?
The Saatva is considered an innerspring mattress, but its construction differs from most other innerspring models. It features comfort layers of polyfoam and memory foam reinforced with a transitional layer of 14.5-gauge pocketed coils made from recycled steel. The mattress also has an organic-cotton Euro-top cover padded with 2 inches of polyfoam and dacron fibers for extra cushioning.
The support core contains bonnell coils; the 11 1/2 inch Saatva has a 4-inch support core, and the 14 1/2 inch Saatva has a 7-inch support core. The thickness of this coil layer is virtually the only difference between the Saatva’s two thickness options.
In terms of firmness, the Saatva is available in three settings: ‘Medium Soft,’ ‘Medium Firm,’ or ‘Firm.’ This selection, along with the profile options, will accommodate most sleepers regardless of their weight or preferred sleep position. The 11 1/2-inch Saatva weighs 110 pounds and the 14 1/2 inch model weighs 120 pounds. Both are relatively heavy compared to other mattresses, making them somewhat difficult to lift and rotate.
