Sleep Position Ratings
Tempur-Pedic
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt all-foam mattress is available in three firmness settings – ‘Soft,’ ‘Medium,’ and ‘Firm’ – making it Tempur-Pedic’s most versatile bed. Most sleepers should be able to find a suitable setting regardless of their weight or sleep position. Two other all-foam models, the TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt and TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze°, are available in ‘Soft’ and ‘Firm’ settings. This makes them ideal for those who either weigh less than 130 pounds or more than 230 pounds.
The TEMPUR-Adapt and TEMPUR-PRObreeze° all-foam beds are exclusively sold with ‘Medium’ firmness settings. The same is true of the hybrid versions of the TEMPUR-Adapt, TEMPUR-ProAdapt, and TEMPUR-PRObreeze°. The ‘Medium’ feel is best suited to side, back, and stomach sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds.
Sleep Number
Adding or removing air from a Sleep Number mattress will affect how firm it feels. As a result, each Sleep Number model offers a firmness range, rather than one fixed setting. The beds are also designed for dual firmness, which can benefit couples with different comfort preferences.
The Classic series features beds with the firmest ranges, which roughly span from ‘Medium’ to ‘Firm’ (depending on the selected model. The Innovation series, on the other hand, consists of mattresses with an approximate range of ‘Soft’ to ‘Medium Firm.’ The Performance and Memory Foam series include mattresses that span from ‘Medium Soft’ to ‘Firm.’

How Are Tempur-Pedic Mattresses Built?
The five current Tempur-Pedic models are each available as all-foam mattresses constructed with memory foam comfort layers and high-density polyfoam support cores. The thicker models tend to be softer, while models with lower profiles offer firmer surfaces.
The TEMPUR-Adapt, TEMPUR-ProAdapt, and TEMPUR-PRObreeze° are also available as hybrid mattresses. These designs have memory foam comfort layers and support cores with pocketed coils encased in foam. All three hybrids have ‘Medium’ firmness settings.
The TEMPUR-PRObreeze° and TEMPUR-LUXEbreeze° both have dual-layer SmartClimate covers infused with phase-change material for added cooling. The other three Tempur-Pedic models have the same cover, but without the phase-change element.
How Are Sleep Number Mattresses Built?
Every Sleep Number mattress shares the same general makeup: comfort layers of polyfoam or memory foam, support cores with two adjustable air chambers, and synthetic covers made from materials such as rayon, polyester, and/or polypropylene. Major variations between these models primarily affect comfort layer thickness, the bed’s overall profile, and firmness setting ranges.
The m7 is the only Sleep Number model with a memory foam comfort layer. The remaining nine models have polyfoam comfort layers. The comfort systems in these beds range in thickness from two to six inches. Generally, beds with thicker comfort layers are priced higher than those with thinner comfort layers.
