Leesa vs. Saatva Mattress Comparison
Leesa vs. Saatva Mattress Comparison
Leesa was founded in 2014. The brand’s flagship bed, known as the Leesa, is built with comfort layers of polyfoam and soft memory foam, as well as a high-density polyfoam base. In terms of firmness it is considered ‘medium,’ or 5 on the 1-10 firmness scale.
Saatva has been selling mattresses since 2011. Its flagship model, the Saatva, is an innerspring mattress featuring a foam-padded Euro-top cover, comfort layers of polyfoam and memory foam, and a transitional layer of pocketed coils. Bonnell coils are used in the support core. The Saatva is available in two thickness profiles – 11 1/2″ and 14 1/2″ – as well as ‘medium-soft’ (4), ‘medium-firm’ (6), and ‘firm’ (7.5) settings.
Please note: Both Leesa and Saatva sell other mattresses in addition to their flagship models.
Leesa offers a memory foam hybrid known as the Leesa Hybrid.
Saatva offers additional mattress models. These include the Saatva HD coil-on-coil innerspring designed for heavier individuals, a luxury memory foam mattress known as the Loom & Leaf, a flippable latex mattress known as the Zenhaven, and an adjustable airbed known as the Solaire.
The Leesa and Saatva are constructed from different materials but they also share several similarities. This guide looks at the unique and shared pros and cons of each mattress, as well as the customer policies and overall reputations of Leesa and Saatva.
Specifies how long the product maintains structure, providing comfort and support before it begins to deteriorate. For reference, the average mattress lifespan is 6-8 years.
The durability of Leesa mattresses should be on par with most mixed foam models — roughly seven years with nightly use.

Off-gassing
x
Most new products emit chemical smells after being removed from packaging. Off-gassing odors are considered non-toxic, but can be quite unpleasant nonetheless.
Like many other foam mattresses, the Leesa is associated with some off-gassing odor, but the smells tend to dissipate within a few days.

Pressure Relief
x
This refers to the degree to which a mattress molds to or cradles the contours of the body. This helps alleviate pressure point pain, especially on the hips and shoulders.
Leesa mattresses conform very closely to help align the spine and alleviate aches and pains throughout the body, though some larger sleepers say it lacks sufficient support.

Temperature Neutrality
x
The temperature of a mattress throughout the night is affected by how much body heat is retained. Several factors affect temperature neutrality, including material composition, layer thickness, and dissipation of heat through airflow.
The Leesa can sleep hot for some, but this mattress is relatively cool compared to many competing foam-based models.

Edge Support
x
The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.
Edge support is fair for most of the mixed foam, universal comfort beds on the market. The Leesa is no better or worse, but on par with its competitors.

Certain mattresses – particularly those with coils – can be quite noisy when bearing weight. Others are nearly silent. Material composition is often the limiting factor for noise potential.

Sex
x
Mattresses that are bouncier and more responsive tend to be better for sex, as they’re easier to change positions on. In contrast, unresponsive mattresses can cause couples to have trouble switching positions.
Leesa mattresses offer some bounce, but these models may not be responsive enough for some couples.

x
A measure of how effectively a mattress absorbs motion across its surface, preventing partner disturbance.
Like other innersprings, the Saatva mattress does not absorb or minimize motion to a significant extent. This may be problematic for certain sleepers, such as couples who share a bed, since minimal motion isolation can lead to sleep disruptions.

Saatva features coil-on-coil construction and memory foam in the comfort layer. This allows the mattress to conform more closely and relieve pressure to a greater extent than many competing innersprings — but all-foam and latex mattresses are considered the best option for sleepers that prefer close conforming and targeted pressure relief.

Sleep Position Ratings
Leesa
With its medium firmness and moderate conforming, the Leesa is optimal for most sleepers in the average weight group (130 to 230 pounds), but it may also be suitable for lighter or heavier individuals that prefer a balance of firmness and conforming. The Leesa isolates motion transfer to a significant extent and produces no noise when bearing weight; as a result, it is a great choice for couples. The mattress sleeps cooler than many of its all-foam competitors, as well.
Saatva
The Saatva’s multiple firmness and profile options make it suitable for most sleepers regardless of their weight or preferred position, though some in the light weight group (less than 130 pounds) find the mattress too thick. Unlike many of its innerspring competitors, the Saatva provides good motion isolation and produces minimal noise. The mattress also sleeps fairly cool due to its breathable organic-cotton cover and strong air circulation through the coil layers.

Mattress Construction
Now let’s see how these beds are made. The next table lists firmness, thickness, weight, and composition specs for the Leesa and Saatva models.
The Leesa has a two-tiered comfort system with a top layer of polyfoam with an indentation load deflection (ILD) of 13, and a second layer of memory foam with an ILD of 9, indicating a softer material. Together these layers provide medium (5) firmness with moderate conforming. The high-density foam base reinforces the bed and helps maintain an even sleep surface with minimal sagging.
The Leesa measures 10″ thick, which is on par with the average mattress profile. It weighs 71 pounds in a Queen size, which is light even by all-foam bed standards; as a result, most owners should have little difficulty lifting and rotating their Leesa mattress.
How Is the Saatva Built?
The Saatva mattress has a complex construction compared to other innersprings. In addition to its polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers, the bed has an organic-cotton Euro-top cover padded with roughly 2″ of foam and a transitional layer of pocketed coils. These components give the bed a softer, more cushioned feel. The support core features bonnell coils. The 11 1/2″ Saatva has a 4″ support core while the 14 1/2″ model has a 7″ support core.
Three firmness options are offered with the Saatva: medium-soft (4), medium-firm (6), and firm (7.5). The bed’s conforming abilities vary by selected firmness. A Queen-size Saatva weighs 110 to 120 pounds, depending on the thickness. In either case, the mattress is heavy and relatively difficult to move and rotate.
