Recommended for...
- People who weigh at least 130 pounds. Due in part to its firmer sleep surfaces, the EcoSleep Hybrid is best suited to sleepers in the average weight and heavyweight groups.
- Sleepers who prefer flippable mattresses. The EcoSleep Hybrid offers two distinct feels, making the mattress ideal for sleepers who enjoy shifting between medium-firm and firm sleep surfaces.
- Hot sleepers. The EcoSleep Hybrid sleeps very cool due to its breathable latex layers and strong airflow through the coil system. Both sides of the mattress also have covers with moisture-wicking wool to keep sleepers comfortable.
- Value seekers. Compared to other latex hybrid models, the EcoSleep Hybrid has a very low price-point.
Not Recommended for...
- People who prefer softer mattresses. The EcoSleep Hybrid flips between medium-firm and firm sleep surfaces. Those who would rather sleep on a mattress with a soft, medium-soft, and/or medium-feel will likely find the EcoSleep Hybrid too firm.

How Is the EcoSleep Hybrid Constructed?
Cover
Both of the EcoSleep Hybrid’s sleep surfaces feature covers made from a blend of organic cotton and natural New Zealand wool. These materials are very soft and breathable. The wool also has moisture-wicking properties to help regulate the sleeper’s body temperature and keep them cool during the night.
Comfort Layers
The hybrid’s sleep surface with a medium-firm (6) feel is constructed with a 1.5-inch layer of ventilated natural latex, followed by an additional 1.5 inches of natural latex. These components provide ample padding for sleepers, resulting in close body-conforming and good pressure relief.
The firm (7) side contains 1.5 inches of ventilated natural latex. Without an additional latex layer, this sleep surface conforms very little and feels exceptionally supportive.
Support Layers
The EcoSleep Hybrid’s shared support core is composed of 6-inch pocketed coils. The coil system stabilizes the entire bed to help maintain an even plane for sleepers and reinforce the edges against deep sinkage. The coils also promote strong airflow to keep the mattress at a comfortable temperature.
Mattress Height
The EcoSleep Hybrid measures 11.5 inches thick, making it a medium-profile model. The mattress sacrifices some coil height to ensure each side has a comfort layer of 1.5 to 3 inches. Comparatively, many competing hybrids have thicker profiles and coils measuring 7 to 8 inches. However, both of the bed’s sleep surfaces feel fairly firm and responsive, so most sleepers will not sink too deeply into the mattress.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?
The EcoSleep Hybrid is a flippable mattress with distinct firmness levels on each side. One side is constructed with 3 inches of natural latex, including a plush top layer. This sleep surface conforms to the sleeper’s body a bit but also feels very supportive. The other sleep surface features 1.5 inches of firmer natural latex. This side conforms very little.
Due to the EcoSleep Hybrid’s firmer sleep surfaces and the natural responsiveness of latex, both sides provide a floating feeling akin to sleeping “on” – as opposed to sleeping “in” – the mattress. The medium-firm side conforms a bit more than the firm side, but neither sleep surface provides the deep, pressure-relieving body cradle of memory foam.
Ratings Breakdown
Performance Ratings
Next, let’s take an in-depth look at our performance ratings for the EcoSleep Hybrid. Each rating is based on findings from our internal and external testing teams, along with verified experiences from EcoSleep Hybrid owners.
Durability
Brooklyn Bedding introduced the EcoSleep Hybrid in 2019, and we have not had sufficient time to test this model against the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Our durability rating for the EcoSleep Hybrid is based on its quality of materials and construction, owner experiences, and Brooklyn Bedding’s overall reputation.
We expect the EcoSleep Hybrid to perform for at least seven and a half years before a replacement mattress is needed. This longer-than-average expected lifespan can be attributed to the bed’s durable materials and high-quality construction. The latex on both sides of the EcoSleep hybrid should withstand sagging and body impressions better than the memory foam or polyfoam found in many competing models, while the pocketed coils offer a sturdy support system and minimize sinkage along the edges very well.
Owners can preserve their EcoSleep Hybrid for as long as possible by rotating the mattress head-to-foot every three to six months.
Motion Isolation
To evaluate the EcoSleep Hybrid for motion isolation, we asked two testers to lie down side-by-side on the mattress. One tester moved around while the other felt for motion transferring across the bed’s surface. During these tests, the EcoSleep Hybrid isolated motion fairly well but did not completely eliminate transfer for sleepers.
Latex hybrids like the EcoSleep Hybrid tend to be very responsive, and this can limit their motion-isolating abilities. Mattresses with polyfoam or memory foam comfort layers tend to absorb more motion and minimize transfer to a much more significant extent.
Off-Gassing
Our testers noticed some initial off-gassing odor when unboxing the EcoSleep Hybrid, but these smells had mostly dissipated when they re-evaluated the mattress a few days later. The ventilated latex layers and pocketed coils promote steady airflow to clear out unwanted odor rather quickly. We don’t foresee any major, long-term off-gassing issues with this mattress.
Pressure Relief
To evaluate the mattress for pressure relief, our testers took turns lying on a sensory pad that monitors pressure build-up in the shoulders, back, hips, and other sensitive areas. The testers also shifted positions to see if pressure increased or decreased when lying on their sides, back, or stomach.
The EcoSleep Hybrid conforms somewhat to the sleeper’s body – particularly on the medium-firm side – but the latex does not hug the body as closely as memory foam. Sleepers who prefer softer sleep surfaces and deeper conforming may not experience adequate pressure relief on the EcoSleep Hybrid due to the bed’s relatively firm feel on both sides.
Temperature Neutrality
The EcoSleep Hybrid demonstrated very good temperature neutrality during our mattress tests. The coil layer promotes steady airflow to help the entire mattress maintain a comfortable temperature, and the latex layers are ventilated for added cooling near the surface. Additionally, the EcoSleep Hybrid’s cover is made using organic cotton and natural wool. These materials are very breathable, and the wool has moisture-wicking properties, as well.
Hybrid and innerspring models usually offer the best temperature neutrality due to strong air circulation in their coil layers. All-foam mattresses do not offer the same level of airflow due to their solid support cores, often causing them to trap body heat from sleepers and feel uncomfortably warm.
Edge Support
To evaluate the EcoSleep Hybrid for edge support, our testers sat along the perimeter of the mattress as an owner might do when getting in and out of bed. All of our testers – even those weighing more than 230 pounds – noticed minimal sinkage and great overall stability while sitting on the edges. The testers also took turns lying near the edges to check for feelings of “roll-off.” Again, each tester felt very secure, even when changing sleep positions.
Hybrids and innersprings often excel at edge support due to their thick coil systems. The EcoSleep Hybrid’s coils are a bit on the shorter side, but the mattress still withstands compression along the perimeter thanks to its latex layers, which are firmer and more responsive than the foam comfort layers found in other hybrid models.
Noise
Our testers did not notice very much noise when evaluating the EcoSleep Hybrid. This is typical for hybrid mattresses because thier pocketed coils are usually quieter than the coils found in most innerspring mattresses. The mattress may produce louder squeaks and creaks as it reaches the end of its lifespan, but we don’t expect owners to experience significant sleep disruptions due to noise.
Sex
The EcoSleep Hybrid conforms a bit to the sleeper’s body but also feels fairly firm and responsive. For many couples, these characteristics represent the ideal mattress for sex. The latex offers decent traction, especially on the medium-firm side, but the bed’s springy sleep surface makes it easier for couples to use the entire mattress and change positions.
Sleeper Ratings
The ideal firmness and thickness for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, our team evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.
Our lightweight testers gave mixed ratings to the EcoSleep Hybrid. Back and stomach sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds found the mattress fairly supportive on both sides, but they slightly preferred the medium-firm sleep surface because it conforms more closely. Side sleepers in this weight group did not feel as comfortable on the EcoSleep Hybrid. Although the medium-firm side offers more conforming, neither sleep surface offered enough cushioning around the shoulders and hips to align the spine or alleviate much pressure.
Typically, sleepers in this weight group prefer soft to medium-soft mattresses. Most beds with firmer sleep surfaces do not conform closely enough, and this can lead to added pressure and uneven alignment for side sleepers. Some lightweight sleepers may find the medium-firm side somewhat comfortable, but for most people in this group, both of the EcoSleep Hybrid’s sleep surfaces will feel excessively firm.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.
Average weight testers were also mixed about the EcoSleep Hybrid, but these sleepers gave the mattress more favorable ratings. Side sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds noted a good balance of cushioning and support on the medium-firm side. As a result, they experienced even spinal alignment and pressure relief without sagging too deeply. Back sleepers also found the bed’s medium-firm sleep surface very supportive, and the firm side also maintained an even plane for their bodies.
Stomach sleepers gave the EcoSleep Hybrid good ratings, but they felt a bit of sagging around the midsection on the medium-firm side. The firm side maintained better support for our average weight stomach sleepers. Generally, side, back, and stomach sleepers in this weight group prefer medium-soft to medium-firm mattresses. Some average weight individuals – stomach sleepers in particular – may find the bed’s firmer side more comfortable, but we expect most sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds will prefer the medium-firm sleep surface.
Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.
Like our average weight sleepers, the heavyweight testers were somewhat mixed about the EcoSleep Hybrid but overall their ratings were very positive. Side sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds found the mattress very comfortable and supportive, especially on the firm side. The same was true for back sleepers in this weight group, who noted better support and less sagging with the bed’s firm sleep surface.
Stomach sleepers in the heavyweight group had similar experiences with the mattress as their average weight counterparts. The mattress was fairly supportive thanks to its latex hybrid construction, but they felt some sagging around the midsection. This is a common issue with this sleep position because people tend to carry a large portion of their body weight in the stomach, waist, and hips. Sleeping face down may cause the body to sink too much, resulting in added aches and pains in the neck and shoulders.

How Does the EcoSleep Hybrid Compare to Other Beds?
We encourage all mattress shoppers to compare different brands and models in order to find their most suitable option. In this section, we’ll see how the EcoSleep Hybrid stacks up against similarly constructed mattresses from Brooklyn Bedding and other brands.
EcoSleep Hybrid vs. Avocado
The Avocado Green is a latex hybrid model. Like the EcoSleep Hybrid, the Avocado Green is constructed with an organic cotton and natural wool cover, latex comfort layers, and a pocketed coil support core. Customers may also choose from medium-firm or firm options for their Avocado Green mattress. Both options are fairly responsive, and the result for most sleepers is a feeling of sleeping “on” – not “in” – the mattress.
These models share other similarities, as well. Both provide above-average temperature neutrality thanks to moisture-wicking covers, ventilated latex layers, and strong air circulation through their coil systems. Edge support is another mutual strength thanks to their sturdy pocketed coils. The mattresses also offer great responsiveness for sex due to their latex layers, as well as limited motion isolation.
The Avocado Green is a bit pricier than the EcoSleep in its firmer feel, and significantly more expensive with the medium-firm sleep surface. Beyond cost, the Avocado Green may be the best option for sleepers looking for stronger coil support, while the EcoSleep is better suited to those who prefer the versatility of a flippable mattress.

EcoSleep Hybrid vs. Birch Mattress
The Birch Mattress is built with a ventilated latex comfort layer over 8-inch pocketed coils and a base layer of wool batting. This latex hybrids has a medium-firm (6.5) feel and is very responsive. It also provides very good temperature neutrality, and has an expected lifespan that is longer than average due to its durable latex hybrid design.
Both mattresses provide a floating feeling with minimal body-conforming, which is akin to sleeping “on” the mattress. However, the Birch Mattress is noticeably more responsive, and does not reduce motion transfer or alleviate pressure for sleepers as well as the EcoSleep Hybrid. Edge support is another key difference. Although the Birch Mattress has thicker coils, the EcoSleep Hybrid’s coil system is stronger and provides better reinforcement against perimeter sinkage.
The Birch Mattress costs more than the EcoSleep Hybrid, but both models are fairly low-priced compared to the average latex hybrid. Both beds are fairly firm and responsive, but the Birch Mattress has a springier feel. The EcoSleep Hybrid, on the other hand, will likely be the better option for sleepers who want closer body-conforming and better motion isolation from their latex hybrid.

EcoSleep Hybrid vs. Brentwood Home Cedar
The Cedar is a latex hybrid model from Brentwood Home. The mattress is constructed with natural wool and latex comfort layers, along with 8-inch pocketed coils and a base layer made from coconut husk fibers. These natural and sustainably sourced components make the mattress eco-friendly, and also ensure excellent durability and edge support.
In addition to the mattress, the Cedar also includes a removable 3-inch topper with a plush surface feel. Adding the topper to the mattress creates a medium (5) feel that is softer than the sleep surfaces found in most competing latex hybrids. This results in closer conforming and better comfort for lightweight sleepers compared to the EcoSleep Hybrid. For other performance categories, such as motion isolation and temperature neutrality, the mattresses have earned comparable ratings.
The Cedar is very expensive, even compared to other latex hybrids, while the EcoSleep Hybrid’s price-point is considered below average. Those who prefer mattresses that conform closely to alleviate pressure may want to consider the Cedar thanks to its removable topper, while the EcoSleep Hybrid is better suited to sleepers whose preferences fall between medium-firm and firm.

EcoSleep Hybrid vs. Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid
The Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid features a 3-inch latex comfort layer over 8-inch pocketed coils and a high-density polyfoam base. The Bloom Hybrid is available with three firmness options, soft (3.5), medium (6), or firm (7.5). The flippable EcoSleep Hybrid offers more versatility due to its two sleep surfaces, but the Bloom Hybrid gives customers more firmness options, and is better suited to those who want a soft mattress.
Apart from these factors, the EcoSleep and Bloom Hybrids are very similar. Both mattresses have longer-than-average expected lifespans due to their latex hybrid construction, and strong reinforcement along the perimeter ensures neither model will sink too much when owners sit or lie down near the edges.
The Bloom Hybrid is more expensive than the EcoSleep Hybrid. Those who appreciate more firmness options on a nightly basis may want to opt for the latter, while the former is the better option for shoppers who want more of a firmness selection – including a soft design – when buying their mattress.

EcoSleep Hybrid vs. EcoCloud
The EcoCloud from WinkBeds is a hybrid model featuring a zoned latex comfort layer. This material is firmer in some areas to provide enhanced support to the sleeper’s shoulders, back, and hips, while softer latex cradles their arms and legs. Overall, the EcoCloud has a medium (5) feel, making it suitable for lighter people. The EcoSleep Hybrid, on the other hand, has a firmer feel on both sides and offers better support for heavier individuals.
Both mattresses provide better-than-average temperature neutrality thanks to their breathable wool-infused covers, ventilated comfort layers, and strong airflow through their coil systems. Edge support is another shared strength, as both mattresses have strong perimeter reinforcement to protect against deep sinkage.
The EcoCloud costs considerably more than the EcoSleep Hybrid. Lighter individuals and others who prefer a softer surface feel will probably feel more comfortable on the EcoCloud, whereas the EcoSleep Hybrid offers better support and less sagging for sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds.

EcoSleep Hybrid vs. Zenhaven
The Zenhaven by Saatva is a flippable latex mattress with a support core of solid Talalay latex. Unlike the EcoSleep Hybrid, which contains pocketed coils for support, the Zenhaven conforms more closely to the sleeper’s body and does not feel as responsive. This ensures above-average motion isolation and pressure relief for the Zenhaven, but the EcoSleep Hybrid offers more edge support and more responsiveness for sex.
One side of the Zenhaven has a medium (5.5) feel, while the other is firm (8). This makes the mattress ideal for sleepers who want a flippable mattress with two very distinct feels. The EcoSleep Hybrid’s sides have more comparable feels, making it a better option for those whose firmness preferences fall squarely in the medium-firm to firm range.
The Zenhaven is the more expensive mattress, but customers should note that Saatva offers free White Glove delivery – including in-home setup and old mattress removal – for customers in the contiguous U.S. Beyond price, customers should base their decision on personal firmness preferences, as well as their criteria for motion isolation, pressure relief, and edge support.
