What You Need to Know about the Loom & Leaf Mattress

Mattress Type and Components:

  • Loom & Leaf offers memory foam mattresses.
  • The comfort layer has two layers: a top layer of convoluted memory foam laminated with spinal grade cooling gel, and a bottom layer of viscoelastic memory foam.
  • The comfort layer also features a panel of spinal grade gel located in the center of the mattress that is designed to further reduce heat retention.
  • The support core is constructed from high-density polyfoam, and is separated from the comfort layer by an additional, two-inch polyfoam buffer.
  • Loom & Leaf is a subsidiary of Saatva; all Loom & Leaf mattresses are manufactured in the U.S. or Canada.

Pros:

  • Designed with a two-tier memory foam comfort layer, Loom & Leaf mattresses will conform to a sleeper’s body for improved spinal alignment and pressure point relief.
  • The high-density memory foam comfort layers are higher quality than most of the online competitors.
  • Users report excellent motion isolation and minimal noise, as well.
  • These mattresses are available in six sizes and two firmness ratings to accommodate a large number of sleepers. Loom & Leaf/Saatva have earned a reputation for strong customer service.

Cons:

  • Some sleepers complain of sleeping hot, despite advertised cooling gel components in the comfort layer
  • Maneuverability may also be an issue, as Loom & Leaf mattresses tend to be heavier than other memory foam models and should be rotated at least two or three times per year.
  •  Some owners report delivery issues

Loom & Leaf Mattress Sleep Ratings

CategoryCriteriaLoom & Leaf RatingWhat Loom & Leaf Users Say
Customer SatisfactionBased on data collection, this is an overall customer sentiment regarding the Loom & Leaf mattress.71%Loom & Leaf has earned an above-average rating among customers, in large part due to strong customer service and the denser memory foams used in the mattress.
Durability Memory foam is engineered to provide a comfortable, conforming sleep surface that retains its original shape once compression is removed.GoodLoom & Leaf mattresses feature high-density memory foam that may extend the lifespan, but most users report average durability compared to comparable mattresses.
Motion IsolationMemory foam mattresses have been touted for superior motion isolation, which means that motion does not occur throughout the mattress when someone gets up or shifts their position.ExcellentCustomers report a higher than average amount of motion isolation with the loom and leaf mattress.
Sex Many memory foam users report that these mattresses are not very conducive for sex due to the lack of responsiveness, which can create a feeling of ‘fighting’ the mattress.FairThe denser foams used in the comfort layers lead to customer report of a “sinking” feeling common in memory foam mattresses which is not ideal for movement on the mattress and sexual activities.
ConformingMemory foam mattresses are engineered to conform to the sleeper’s figure, creating a cradle-shaped impression that aligns the spine and targets pressure points.Very GoodCustomers report a lot of conforming with the softer of the two mattresses and about average with the firmer model.
Temperature NeutralityMemory foam retains more body heat than other mattress materials, and users often ‘sleep hot’ as a result.FairLoom & Leaf advertises mattresses with cooling gel in the comfort layer to reduce heat retention; however customer experiences show that the mattress traps heat more than comparable mattresses.
Off-gassingSome mattresses emit particles when they are unpackaged, accompanied by unpleasant ‘off-gassing’ smells that can last for days.FairSeveral users have reported unpleasant off-gassing smells at first, but these odors tend to dissipate within one or two days of delivery.
Edge SupportBecause of their construction, memory foam mattresses often feature little to no edge support.PoorLike most memory foam mattresses, Loom & Leaf models have little edge support and customer report above average sinkage when sitting on or sleeping towards the edge.
NoiseMemory foam mattresses create little to no noise, due to their lack of springs, coils, and other metal componentsVery GoodLoom & Leaf mattresses produce little to no noise.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMemory foam mattresses tend to be lighter, which makes them easier to move. They also never need to be flipped, since only one side is designed for sleeping.GoodLoom & Leaf mattresses are slightly heavier than most comparable models, but most still weigh less than 100 pounds.
