EcoCloud vs. EcoSleep Mattress Overview
EcoCloud vs. EcoSleep Mattress Overview
Founded in 2014, WinkBeds is a Milwaukee-based company dedicated to offering the finest American-made mattresses, platforms, and bedding. WinkBeds’ EcoCloud mattress is made from all-natural materials, including Talalay latex, organic wool from New Zealand, and organic cotton.
Brooklyn Bedding got its start in Phoenix, Arizona in 2008, when it was one of the first companies to offer bed-in-a-box mattress shipping. Made from sustainably sourced latex, the company’s EcoSleep mattress features a unique flippable design that allows customers to select a medium or firm sleep experience.
Please note:
WinkBeds produces two other mattresses: the WinkBed, the company’s flagship model available in four firmness options; and a memory foam bed available in three firmness options, known as the GravityLux.
This page compares the EcoCloud and EcoSleep models. For more information about these brands and their other models, check out our WinkBeds Review page and our interview with Brooklyn Bedding’s mattress executive.
Made in the United States using all-natural materials and sustainable manufacturing processes, both mattresses deliver superior temperature neutrality and comfort. However, each model comes with its own set of unique qualities and drawbacks. This page compares the EcoCloud and EcoSleep from several angles, including comfort, cost, and construction. We also look at both companies’ shipping policies, warranties, and return procedures.
Specifies how long the product maintains structure, providing comfort and support before it begins to deteriorate. For reference, the average mattress lifespan is 6-8 years.
The EcoCloud offers great resiliency thanks to its natural and organic components, which tend to outlast their synthetic counterparts. The expected lifespan is at least eight years.

Motion Isolation
x
A measure of how effectively a mattress absorbs motion across its surface, preventing partner disturbance.
The EcoCloud isolates some motion transfer, but – like most latex hybrids – does not completely eliminate it.

Off-gassing
x
Most new products emit chemical smells after being removed from packaging. Off-gassing odors are considered non-toxic, but can be quite unpleasant nonetheless.
Off-gassing is minimal when the mattress is new, and long-term odor does not appear to be an issue.

Pressure Relief
x
This refers to the degree to which a mattress molds to or cradles the contours of the body. This helps alleviate pressure point pain, especially on the hips and shoulders.
The EcoCloud conforms somewhat closely, but it does not provide the same body-hug as memory foam; this could be a positive or negative, depending on sleeper preferences.

Temperature Neutrality
x
The temperature of a mattress throughout the night is affected by how much body heat is retained. Several factors affect temperature neutrality, including material composition, layer thickness, and dissipation of heat through airflow.
Temperature neutrality is a key strength of the EcoCloud, largely due to its organic cotton/wool cover, breathable latex comfort layer, and pocketed coil system that circulates air very well.

Edge Support
x
The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.
Thanks to a high-density foam encasement around the coils, the EcoCloud has well-reinforced edges and is less susceptible to sinkage along the perimeter.

Noise
x
Certain mattresses – particularly those with coils – can be quite noisy when bearing weight. Others are nearly silent. Material composition is often the limiting factor for noise potential.
The EcoCloud may produce some squeaks and creaks on occasion, but the mattress is mostly silent.

Sex
x
Mattresses that are bouncier and more responsive tend to be better for sex, as they’re easier to change positions on. In contrast, unresponsive mattresses can cause couples to have trouble switching positions.
The mattress is fairly responsive, and should be sufficiently springy for most couples.

Sleep Position Ratings
The EcoCloud Mattress
While WinkBeds rates the EcoCloud as a 5 out of 10 on its firmness scale, our testing team found it to be closer to a medium-firm 6. This extra firmness provides above-average support for side, back, and stomach sleepers under 130 pounds and side and back sleepers under 230 pounds. While heavier stomach and side sleepers rated the mattress less favorably due to a lack of contouring, back sleepers over 230 pounds appreciated the spinal support and pressure relief from the EcoSleep’s pocketed coil core and targeted firmness zones.
The EcoSleep Mattress
The EcoSleep received mixed reviews from lightweight sleepers, who felt that neither the medium-firm nor firm sleep surfaces provided the right amount of contouring to maintain comfortable spinal alignment. Sleepers between 130 and 230 pounds also had mixed feelings about the EcoSleep.
Back sleepers in this category gave the most positive ratings, appreciating the firm sleep surface’s evenly distributed support, while stomach sleepers noticed some sagging in the mattress’ middle on the medium-firm side. In general, team members over 230 pounds also praised the EcoSleep for comfort and supportiveness, although stomach sleepers in this category would have preferred more support for their midsections.

How Is the EcoCloud Mattress Built?
The EcoCloud mattress features a breathable, hypoallergenic moisture-wicking cover. Made from a blend of organic cotton and New Zealand wool, the cover is designed to regulate temperature and repel allergens, mold, and dust mites. Beneath the cover are two 2-inch comfort layers made of sustainably sourced Talalay latex to promote air circulation and cooler sleeping. The second latex layer features seven different firmness levels designed to provide targeted support and pressure point relief. Overall, the bed offers a medium firmness level.
Designed to provide exceptional support and comfort, the mattress’ support core consists of 8 inches of coils, divided into five zones, atop a 1-inch high-density polyfoam base. At 13 inches, the EcoCloud is slightly taller than most mattresses, offering maximum support for back sleeper.
How Is the EcoSleep Mattress Built?
The flippable EcoSleep offers a firm sleep experience on one side and a medium-firm surface on the other. Like the EcoCloud, this model features a temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking top layer made from organic cotton and New Zealand wool. The medium-firm sleep surface is constructed with a 1.5-inch ventilated natural latex layer above another 1.5-inch layer of natural latex, offering superior pressure relief and conforming. With only a single 1.5-inch latex layer, the firm side provides a great deal of support with very little give.
The EcoSleep features slightly shorter 6-inch pocketed coils in its shared support core due to its unique flippable construction, leaving the mattress 11.5 inches high in total. The coil layer contributes to the springiness of the bed, and promotes airflow throughout the mattress.

Trial Period Details
While the EcoCloud’s 120-night trial period begins on the day it’s delivered, the company does require customers to complete a 30-night break-in period before returning their purchase. Customers may request a full refund, or exchange their mattress for another WinkBeds model. Shipping for return items is free, and products do not need to be returned in mint condition. Refunds are issued within five days or less of the customer’s request.
In the case of exchanges, customers may schedule a return pickup or donation for a nonrefundable $49 mattress recycling fee. Each new mattress comes with a 60-day trial period, which begins on the day of delivery. WinkBeds permits one trial period per customer or shipping address.
Warranty
The EcoCloud mattress comes with a limited lifetime warranty that begins on the product’s original purchase date and covers manufacturing and material defects. Only the item’s original owner may make a claim under the warranty, which is exclusively valid on products purchased directly from WinkBeds or an authorized WinkBeds dealer. Customers must present a receipt and visual evidence of damage. They may also pay initial return shipping costs, which are reimbursed if their claim is accepted.
WinkBeds’ warranty covers visible indentations greater than 1.5 inches which are not the result of improper foundation support, as well as manufacturing defects such as worn spots, cracks, or splits. It does not cover normal wear, including changes in texture; damage due to burns, tears, liquid, or improper handling; stains; and the results of using improper mattress support. Refurbished items and mattresses sold “as-is” are not covered under the warranty.
