- Sleepers seeking a more responsive all-foam bed. The GravityLux conforms closely to the sleeper’s body thanks to its thick memory foam layer, but the topmost polyfoam layer has a light bounce. The result is a combined feeling of sleeping “on” and sleeping “in” the mattress.
- People who are unsure of their ideal firmness. The GravityLux is available as a medium-soft, medium, or firm mattress. This selection should accommodate most sleepers in terms of body weight, typical sleep position, and firmness preferences. Customers may exchange their GravityLux for a model with a different firmness during the sleep trial for a flat fee of $49, and company personnel will haul away the original mattress at no extra charge.
- Couples. The GravityLux isolates motion and eliminates most transfer, which can reduce sleep disruptions for people who share their bed with a partner. The mattress is also virtually silent when bearing weight, and offers more responsiveness for sex than many competing all-foam models.
- Those who normally sleep hot. Compared to other all-foam mattresses, the GravityLux sleeps exceptionally cool. This can be attributed to its open-cell comfort foam, which does not absorb much body heat from sleepers, as well as its breathable Tencel lyocell cover.
Not Recommended for...
- Sleepers who prefer a more traditional memory foam feel. Although the GravityLux conforms somewhat closely to the sleeper’s body, it does not provide the same pressure-relieving cradle as models built exclusively with memory foam comfort layers.
- Shoppers on a budget. Compared to other mixed-foam and memory foam models, the GravityLux has an above-average price-point – though customers should note the mattress comes with a lifetime warranty.

How Is the GravityLux Constructed?
Cover
The GravityLux has a cover made of 100 percent Tencel lyocell derived from eucalyptus, a synthetic material with an exceptionally soft and breathable feel. The cover is tufted with 2 inches of gel-infused polyfoam for added padding.
Comfort Layers
The GravityLux’s comfort layer consists of 3 inches of open-cell memory foam. This material conforms to the sleeper’s body in order to evenly distribute their weight, align the spine, and alleviate pressure in sensitive areas. How closely the memory foam conforms depends on the selected firmness.
Transitional Layer
The mattress has a 3-inch transitional layer made of polyfoam. The material is zoned, meaning it feels firmer beneath the sleeper’s back and hips, and softer beneath their head, shoulders, and legs. This helps minimize sagging around the sleeper’s heaviest areas, which in turn maintains an even plane for their body and aligns the spine.
Support Layers
The GravityLux has a 4-inch support core made of 1.8 PCF (pounds per cubic foot) high-density polyfoam. This exceptionally dense material stabilizes the entire bed and prevents excessive sagging across the sleep surface.
Mattress Height
The GravityLux measures 12 inches thick, making it a high-profile mattress. The bed’s above-average height ensures ample space for comfort materials without sacrificing transitional and base materials. As a result, the mattress offers a good balance of body-conforming and even support.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?
The GravityLux is available in three firmness options. The medium-soft (4) version conforms very closely to the sleeper’s body. This option is best suited to lighter individuals – particularly side sleepers, who often need extra padding beneath their shoulders and hips for even spinal alignment.
The medium (5) version conforms a bit less, and is optimal for side and back sleepers weighing 230 pounds or less. Lastly, the firm (7) version conforms to a very minimal extent. This will likely be the best option for heavier back and stomach sleepers because the foam feels very supportive and is not as prone to sagging.
Most beds with memory foam comfort layers create a deep, pressure-relieving cradle for the sleeper’s body that is akin to sleeping “in” the mattress. Because the GravityLux has a cover tufted with 2 inches of polyfoam, the surface has a light bounce and the mattress is more responsive than many all-foam competitors. This provides a combined feeling of both sleeping “in” and sleeping “on” the bed.
Ratings Breakdown
Performance Ratings
Next, let’s take a closer look at our performance ratings for the GravityLux. These ratings are based on findings from our internal and external testing teams, along with experiences from verified GravityLux owners.
Durability
The GravityLux was introduced in 2019. We have not had enough time to evaluate this model against the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Therefore, our durability rating for the GravityLux is based on its quality of construction and materials, owner experiences, and WinkBeds’ overall reputation.
We expect the GravityLux to perform for about six and a half years before a replacement mattress is needed. This expected lifespan is on par with the average mixed-foam model. The fairly thick support system should help the mattress withstand major sinkage and body impressions over time. That said, mattresses with a firm feel will probably last the longest, as softer foams are more susceptible to early deterioration.
In order to prevent the GravityLux from developing deep body impressions, we recommend rotating the mattress head-to-foot every three to six months.
Motion Isolation
To evaluate the GravityLux for motion isolation, we asked two sleep testers to lie side-by-side on the mattress. One tester moved around while the other felt for motion transferring across the surface. During these tests, the GravityLux exhibited excellent motion isolation.
The topmost foam layers absorbed motion very well and completely eliminated transfer for co-sleepers. This was consistent with findings from our external testers who evaluated the mattress with sleep partners.
Off-Gassing
Our testers noticed some initial off-gassing smells when they unboxed the GravityLux. However, these odors had almost completely dissipated when they re-evaluated the mattress a few days later.
Some mattresses have foam layers that absorb and trap unpleasant smells, leading to persistent odor issues. The GravityLux has a lower odor potential because of its open-cell foam, which is more breathable and less likely to trap smells over time.
Pressure Relief
To evaluate the GravityLux for pressure relief, our testers took turns lying on a sensory pad that monitors pressure buildup in sensitive areas of the body, such as the shoulders and hips. The testers also shifted positions to see if pressure increased or decreased when lying on their sides, back, or stomach.
Our testers noted that the GravityLux provided excellent pressure relief, though their experiences with the mattress largely depended on the selected firmness. Lightweight and average weight individuals – especially side sleepers – felt less pressure build-up on the medium-soft and medium mattresses, both of which conform somewhat closely.
Heavier people, including back and stomach sleepers, experienced more pressure relief on the firm version of the mattress because it maintained even support without sagging too much.
Temperature Neutrality
The GravityLux sleeps exceptionally cool for an all-foam bed. This is mostly due to its open-cell memory foam layer, which is very breathable and does not absorb very much heat from sleepers. Comparatively, mattresses with denser memory foam layers often trap body heat and sleep excessively warm as a result.
Another key component is the GravityLux’s Tencel lyocell cover. This material derived from eucalyptus fibers is very breathable, and helps dissipate body heat in order to maintain a comfortable surface temperature.
Edge Support
To evaluate the GravityLux for edge support, our testers sat along the perimeter of the mattress as an owner might do when getting in and out of bed. Each tester noticed significant sinkage, though the firm mattress did not sink as much as the medium-soft or medium models.
The testers also took turns lying near the edges of the mattress to check for feelings of “roll-off.” They found the mattress more stable during this test than when sitting along the edge, and felt fairly secure sleeping along the perimeter. Again, the testers noticed the most stability on the firm GravityLux.
Noise
During our evaluations, the GravityLux remained virtually silent when bearing weight, even as the testers moved around and shifted sleep positions. This is a fairly common attribute among all-foam beds. These models lack the internal components most commonly associated with disruptive noises, such as coils found in innerspring and hybrid models, or the motorized air chambers found in airbeds.
Sex
The GravityLux offers a balance of body-conforming and responsiveness due to its mixed-foam construction, and many couples will find it suitable for sex. People don’t sink too deeply into surface of the bed, allowing them to change positions rather easily, but the foam contours closely enough to provide decent traction during sex. Additionally, the GravityLux does not produce any noise, making it fairly discreet for amorous activities.
Sleeper Ratings
The ideal firmness and thickness for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, we evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.
Lightweight side sleepers felt very comfortable on both the medium-soft and medium models. The plush padding in the cover and the memory foam comfort layer conformed very closely to cushion the shoulders and hips, align the spine, and alleviate pressure. Back and stomach sleepers in this weight group also gave favorable ratings to the medium-soft and medium versions of the GravityLux, noting a good balance of body-contouring and even support.
Testers weighing less than 130 pounds did not feel as comfortable on the firm version of the GravityLux because of its minimal conforming. Their bodies did not sink very deeply into the mattress, resulting in less pressure relief, as well as uneven alignment for side sleepers.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.
Our average weight testers also gave very favorable ratings to the GravityLux. Side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds preferred the medium-soft and medium versions, both of which provide ample padding for the shoulders and hips. The firm version did not provide the same level of cushioning, and this prevented the spine from aligning properly.
For back and stomach sleepers in this weight group, the medium GravityLux version offered the best combination of body-conforming, pressure relief, and overall support. The soft model sagged a bit around the midsection – particularly for stomach sleepers – while the firm model did not conform closely enough to relieve pressure points.
Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.
Our ratings from heavyweight sleepers were positive overall, but these testers had different firmness preferences from the other two groups. For side sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds, the medium version offered great cushioning for the shoulders and hips. The medium-soft version sagged a bit, and the firm version did not offer enough padding.
Back sleepers in this weight group found the medium and firm options comfortable. The medium version is optimal for heavier back sleepers who prefer a bit of extra padding, while the firm version is best suited to those who want less conforming and more support.
Heavyweight stomach sleepers noted excessive sagging around the midsection when lying on the medium-soft and medium versions of the GravityLux. This is a common issue associated with heavier stomach sleepers, as lying face-down can cause the body to sink too deeply into the mattress. However, our testers found the firm version much more supportive.

How Does GravityLux Compare to Other Beds?
We encourage all mattress shoppers to compare different brands and models before deciding which bed is best for them. In this next section, we’ll see how the GravityLux compares to other WinkBeds models and some similarly constructed mattresses from competing brands.
GravityLux vs. The WinkBed
The WinkBed flagship mattress is a luxury coil-on-coil innerspring. The standard WinkBed is constructed with polyfoam comfort layers over transitional foam-encased pocketed coils and a pocketed coil support core. This standard design is available in medium-soft (4.5), medium-firm (6.5), and firm (7.5) options. Additionally, the WinkBed Plus – a firm (8) model – is specifically designed for heavyweight individuals and features a supportive latex transitional layer.
As innersprings, the WinkBed and WinkBed Plus provide exceptional responsiveness due to their thick coil systems, as well as strong edge support. These beds also sleep very cool thanks to strong airflow through the coil layers. However, the GravityLux outperforms WinkBed models in terms of motion isolation and pressure relief.
The WinkBed costs more than the GravityLux, but their price-points are fairly comparable. The WinkBed and WinkBed Plus are better options for sleepers who enjoy the responsive innerspring feel, while those who prefer the conforming and pressure relief of an all-foam bed should consider the GravityLux instead.

GravityLux vs. EcoCloud
Also by WinkBeds, the EcoCloud is a luxury hybrid made with a latex comfort layer and recycled-steel pocketed coils. The EcoCloud’s comfort layer features seven firmness zones for different areas of the sleeper’s body. This layer shares a similar design with the GravityLux’s zoned transitional layer. As a result, both beds are comparable in terms of overall sleeper support.
One advantage of the GravityLux is a wider firmness selection. The EcoCloud is exclusively available as a medium (5) mattress, which may be too limiting for those who prefer softer or firmer sleep surfaces. However, the EcoCloud outperforms the GravityLux in the edge support category. Its coils are encased in high-density polyfoam for added perimeter reinforcement, which results in much less sinkage over time.
The EcoCloud is a bit more expensive than the GravityLux, but still fairly low-priced for a latex hybrid. Sleepers who prefer a highly responsive and supportive mattress should opt for the EcoCloud, while the GravityLux is a better option for those seeking a balanced sleeping “in” and sleeping “on” feel.

GravityLux vs. The Casper
Like the GravityLux, the Casper Mattress is a mixed-foam model featuring polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers over a high-density polyfoam base. The Casper has a medium (5) feel, and has a light bounce that makes it more responsive than many of its all-foam competitors. Its surface feels very similar to the medium GravityLux model’s.
These beds share other similarities, as well. Both provide excellent motion isolation, alleviate pressure very well, and sleep fairly cool compared to other all-foam models. However, due to its more limited firmness selection, the Casper Mattress is best suited to those in the lightweight and average weight groups. Heavier individuals will probably find the medium or firm version of the GravityLux much more comfortable.
The Casper Mattress costs much less than the GravityLux. However, the GravityLux is better suited to a wider range of sleepers across different body types and sleep positions. Those who prefer a medium feel may find either mattress suitable, but people with different preferences should definitely consider the GravityLux.

GravityLux vs. Loom & Leaf
The Loom & Leaf by Saatva is constructed with two layers of memory foam over a thick, high-density polyfoam support system. The mattress is ideal for sleepers who prefer the pressure-relieving cradle of traditional memory foam beds. Comparatively, the GravityLux feels more responsive and bouncier due to its mixed-foam composition.
Loom & Leaf customers can choose from medium (5.5) or firm (8) feels for their mattress. Although this selection is not as broad as the GravityLux’s, most sleepers of at least 130 pounds can find a Loom & Leaf option that accommodates their body type and sleep position.
However, one issue owners have reported with the Loom & Leaf is excessive body heat retention, which causes the mattress to sleep somewhat warm. We recommend the GravityLux for hot sleepers, particularly those who often feel too warm on other all-foam beds.
These models have very comparable price-points. Customers should note the Loom & Leaf comes with free White Glove delivery, including old mattress removal, while the GravityLux is backed with a lifetime warranty.

GravityLux vs. Nectar
The Nectar Mattress is constructed with three layers of memory foam over a base layer of high-density polyfoam. The Nectar Mattress is an optimal choice for sleepers who enjoy the deep body cradle of traditional memory foam mattresses.
The GravityLux and Nectar Mattress share some similarities. Both mattresses alleviate pressure very well, eliminate motion transfer for couples, and sleep relatively cool for all-foam models. However, the Nectar is only available as a medium-firm model. This makes it ideal for sleepers who prefer a mid-level firmness between medium and firm, but those with differing preferences will likely find one of the GravityLux models more comfortable.
The Nectar is very inexpensive for a memory foam mattress, making it a high-value pick for customers. However, the GravityLux provides a wider firmness selection to accommodate sleepers across all body type and sleep position groups.

GravityLux vs. T&N Mint Mattress
The Mint Mattress from Tuft & Needle is an all-polyfoam model. Constructed from gel-infused comfort and transitional layers over a high-density base, the mattress offers a responsive, medium-firm feel. Like the GravityLux, the Mint Mattress is optimal for those who prefer a mixed feeling of sleeping “on” and sleeping “in” the mattress.
These two beds have earned comparable ratings in most performance categories, including pressure relief, motion isolation, and noise potential. They both tend to sag a bit along the edges, as well, though sleepers generally feel secure sleeping near the perimeter. And because they are constructed with breathable comfort foams, the GravityLux and Mint Mattress each sleep cooler than many competing all-foam beds.
Price-point will likely play a role in buying decisions, as the GravityLux is significantly more expensive than the Mint Mattress. However, the GravityLux’s wider firmness selection may appeal to customers whose preferences do not match the medium-firm feel of the Mint Mattress.
