What You Need to Know about the Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Mattress Type and Components:

  • Tempur-Pedic offers hybrid mattresses containing both memory foam and pocketed coils. These models feature memory foam comfort layers, pocket coil support cores, and covers woven from polyester.
  • Tempur-Pedic offers four different hybrid mattresses as part of its Flex mattress series. These models are the Prima, Supreme, Supreme Breeze, and Elite. These models vary individually by firmness rating and price-point.
  • Additionally, please note the following product variations:
    • Breeze: The Supreme Breeze mattress — part of the Flex series — features comfort layers and covers designed to reduce heat retention and sleep cooler than other Flex models..
    • Please note: Tempur-Pedic also sells all-foam mattresses as part of the Cloud and Contour series. For more information on these products, please visit our Tempur-Pedic Memory Foam Mattress Review.

  • The hybrid construction of Flex mattresses provides a balance of body-conforming and bounciness, making them suitable for sleepers who feel that all-foam mattresses are too soft.
  • Tempur-Pedic offers four different mattresses with varying firmness ratings to accommodate a wide range of sleepers.
  • Tempur-Pedic owners claim that these mattresses have an above-average lifespan compared to both hybrid mattresses and all mattresses in general.
  • Free White Glove Service delivery — including in-home assembly — is offered to all customers in the contiguous U.S. with the exception of certain rural areas.

  • Overall, the price-point for Tempur-Pedic mattresses is significantly higher than the price of comparable hybrid models.
  • With the exception of the Supreme Breeze model, Tempur-Pedic mattresses tend to sleep warmer than other mattresses.
  • Tempur-Pedic mattress purchasers have reported above-average off-gassing levels.
  • Despite advertising a 90-night sleep trial, Tempur-Pedic customers are unable to return their mattress until using it for at least 30 days — a policy that may confuse some purchasers.

Sleep Trial and Warranty Information

Trial Period and Guarantee: Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night sleep trial. Purchasers are required to test out the mattress for at least 30 days before they are able to return it. Customers who return their mattress will receive a full refund on the original purchase minus shipping charges.

Warranty: Tempur-Pedic offers a 10-year limited warranty.

  1. The Tempur-Pedic warranty covers the repair costs of a defective mattress, and will issue a full product refund in the event of a mattress replacement. However, the owner is responsible for transportation charges for all repairs or replacements.
  2. Owners who choose to replace a defective mattress with an upgrade model must pay the difference between the original and the replacement.
  3. Warranty coverage is available to customers who purchase their mattress from an authorized Tempur-pedic retailer, but coverage does not extend to unauthorized third-party resellers on sites such as Amazon.com, eBay, or Craigslist.
  4. Warranty coverage is not available for floor or demo models.
  5. The warranty will be voided if a proper foundation is not used to support the mattress. According to Tempur-Pedic, proper support includes center support and five to six legs for Queen, King, and California sizes, or at least four legs for Twin, Twin Long, and Double sizes. Tempur-Pedic also recommended using a ‘slatted style bed frame’ for Queen, King, and California King sizes.
  6. The Tempur-Pedic mattress warranty covers the following product defects:
    • Deterioration to the mattress surface that causes indentations measuring 3/4″ or deeper, provided the indentation does not occur due to improper foundational support.
    • Physical defects in the Tempur-Pedic that cause the mattress to split or crack despite proper usage and support.
    • Manufacturing defects related to the zipper cover. Please note that, if the cover is replaced, Tempur-Pedic may option to provide a cover with a different color or design from the original.
  7. The warranty will not cover the following:
    • Indentations that are less than 3/4″ deep. These are considered normal wear and tear.
    • ‘Normal increase in softness’ in the mattress that does not affect its conforming or pressure-relieving abilities.
    • Repair or replacement requests that occur due to changes in the owner’s comfort preferences.
    • Burns, cuts, tears, stains, and other types of damage that do not occur during the manufacturing, shipping, or in-home assembly stages, and are a direct result of misuse by the owner.
    • Damage that occurs due to improper foundational support.
    • Repairs or replacements for floor or demo models sold at discounted prices.
  8. A new warranty will not be issued for replacement mattresses; rather, the coverage will continue until the original mattress warranty expires.
  9. The warranty is exclusively offered to the original purchaser. Anyone who acquires or buys the mattress from the owner does so ‘as is’, and will not receive warranty coverage.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress Sleep Ratings

CategoryCriteriaTempur-Pedic RatingWhat Tempur-Pedic Users Say
Customer SatisfactionBased on data collection, this is an overall customer sentiment regarding Tempur-Pedic mattresses.77%Tempur-Pedic Flex mattresses have earned an above-average satisfaction rating, due to strong performance, reliable customer service, and White Glove Service delivery options.
Durability Hybrids tend to degrade faster than other mattresses, often due to low-grade polyfoam used in the support core.ExcellentFlex owners claim that these mattresses perform longer and show fewer indentations than comparable memory foam models.
Motion IsolationIdeally, a hybrid mattress will fall in the middle of the spectrum in terms of motion isolation: more motion transfer than memory foam or latex, but less transfer than an innerspring.Very GoodFlex mattresses do not isolate motion as much as their all-foam Tempur-Pedic counterparts, but the pocket coil support core minimizes motion transfer to a significant extent.
Sex Most hybrids feature a blend softness and bounciness that many couples find conducive for sex.Very GoodOwners report that Tempur-Pedic Flex mattresses offer a balance of softness and bounciness that is suitable for sex.
ConformingHybrid mattresses often provide a good balance of firmness and body-conforming, making them suitable for people who feel that memory foam is too soft and innersprings don’t relieve enough pressure.GoodFlex mattresses conform somewhat closely and are capable of alleviating pressure, but memory foam and latex mattresses are still considered the best option for a contouring sleep surface.
Temperature NeutralityHybrid mattresses tend to retain less body heat and sleep cooler than models made from memory foam or latex.GoodThe Flex Supreme Breeze sleeps relatively cool, but the other three mattresses in the Flex series retain high levels of body heat according to owner reports.
Off-gassingOff-gassing may occur, but most hybrids produce less odor than mattresses made exclusively of foam.FairFlex mattresses produce a fair amount of off-gassing, but most owners claim the odors disappear within two to three days of unpackaging.
Edge SupportHybrids usually provide more edge support than memory foam and latex mattresses, and are usually on par with traditional innersprings. GoodMattresses in the Flex series have pocket coil support cores that provide more edge support compared to all-foam mattresses.
NoiseHybrids tend to produce more noise than strictly foam mattresses, primarily due to the spring and coil components of the support core.GoodThe pocket coils of a Flex mattress will produce some noise, but these models are considerably quieter than other spring-based mattresses.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMattress size is an important consideration, but the average hybrid is lighter and easier to move than most traditional innerspring or foam models. FairTempur-Pedic Flex mattresses are relatively heavy compared to other hybrids, which may make them difficult to periodically rotate as recommended.
