WestPoint Home is a clothing and home decor retailer based in New York City. The company owns and sells products from Vellux, an Australia-based brand. For this review, we’ve analyzed the Vellux Heavy Weight Blanket, which features a polyester fleece cover and polystyrene (plastic) pellet fill.
The blanket’s pellets are contained in a quilted insert made of polyester and cotton, which helps contain the fill and distribute it evenly. The fleece cover has a very plush feel, making it suitable for anyone who prefers softer blankets and those who live in chillier climates. The cover can be machine-washed and line-dried for added convenience.
The standard queen-size weighted blanket is available in weights of 15, 20, and 25 pounds. An additional throw blanket – which is comparable to a full-size bed – is available in weights of 12, 15, 20, and 25 pounds. Because sleepers should use weighted blankets that represent roughly 10 percent of their own body weight, the Vellux Heavy Weight Blanket is best suited to adults and children who weigh between 120 and 250 pounds.
The Vellux Heavy Weight Blanket has a price-point that is comparable to that of the average weighted blanket. Customers may return unused blankets in their original packaging within 30 days of purchase to receive a full product refund.
Read on to learn more about the Vellux Heavy Weight Blanket in terms of construction, pricing, and performance. This review also includes some similar weighted blanket recommendations and an overview of WestPoint Home’s shipping and return policies.

Weighted Blankets are filled with tons of small weighted beads surrounded by polyester padding/filling. These beads are of varying quality, usually made of plastic, glass, or nano-ceramic.
The Vellux Heavy Weight Blanket contains pellets made of polystyrene, a low-grade plastic. The pellets provide fair conforming and emit a strong off-gassing odor.
The polyester/cotton insert is box-quilted to help contain the fill and distribute it evenly, but the pellets may gather to a noticeable degree.

As you can see, warmth and insulation are key strengths of the Vellux Heavy Weight Blanket. Its thick, cozy fleece cover traps body heat, making it ideal for colder weather. However, the blanket traps air to a noticeable extent, which may cause it to sleep too hot for some – especially in hotter climates.
The blanket contains plastic pellets, which do not provide the same levels of consistent body conforming as glass beads or pellets. Additionally, the polyester-cotton insert used to contain the plastic pellets is fairly thin and may be susceptible to tearing, which can compromise the blanket’s overall structure.
As a result, its expected lifespan is average to below-average. The plastic pellets emit a fair amount of off-gassing odor, as well.
Cleaning the blanket is fairly straightforward. The cover can be washed in a machine, but should be line-dried. The insert is spot-clean only and should not be laundered in a machine, which may be time-consuming for some owners.
