The Puffy Mattress contours to the body with plush memory foam for exceptional pressure relief and motion isolation.
The Saatva coil-on-coil mattress offers a responsive innerspring feel, consistent cooling, and solid support along the perimeter.
Both beds are reasonably priced given their high-quality designs.
Saatva vs. Puffy Mattress Overview
Saatva vs. Puffy Mattress Overview
Puffy is an online “bed-in-a-box” mattress brand that has been in business since 2017. The flagship Puffy Mattress is an all-foam model featuring a comfort layer of gel-infused memory foam over a polyfoam transitional layer. The mattress has a medium (5) feel and will conform very closely to the body for a traditional memory foam feel, which many people liken to sleeping “in” – as opposed to “on” – the surface of the bed. The Puffy Mattress also contains a support core of high-density polyfoam, and it is encased in a polyester cover. Altogether, this model measures 10 inches thick.
Saatva is another bed-in-a-box brand that first launched in 2015. The company’s flagship mattress, known as the Saatva or the Saatva Classic, is a coil-on-coil innerspring. The mattress is constructed with a Euro-top cover cushioned with polyfoam and fiber padding, polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers, and a transitional layer of pocketed minicoils. Low-gauge bonnell coils make up the support core, and the cover is made of organic cotton. Customers can choose between three firmness levels for their Saatva: medium soft (4), medium firm (6), or firm (7.5). The mattress is also available in 11.5-inch and 14.5-inch profiles.
The all-foam Puffy Mattress has a very different feel compared to the Saatva innerspring, and these beds each excel – and falter – in different performance areas. However, there are a few notable similarities, as well. Read on to see how these two mattresses measure up in terms of construction, pricing, and performance. We’ve also included detailed comparison of the companies’ shipping, return, and warranty policies.
Specifies how long the product maintains structure, providing comfort and support before it begins to deteriorate. For reference, the average mattress lifespan is 6-8 years.
The Puffy mattress uses slightly less dense foams which should be durable for lighter sleepers but won't last as long for heavier sleepers (230lbs+) with nightly use.

Sex
x
Mattresses that are bouncier and more responsive tend to be better for sex, as they’re easier to change positions on. In contrast, unresponsive mattresses can cause couples to have trouble switching positions.

Motion Isolation
x
A measure of how effectively a mattress absorbs motion across its surface, preventing partner disturbance.
Like other innersprings, the Saatva mattress does not absorb or minimize motion to a significant extent. This may be problematic for certain sleepers, such as couples who share a bed, since minimal motion isolation can lead to sleep disruptions.

This refers to the degree to which a mattress molds to or cradles the contours of the body. This helps alleviate pressure point pain, especially on the hips and shoulders.
Saatva features coil-on-coil construction and memory foam in the comfort layer. This allows the mattress to conform more closely and relieve pressure to a greater extent than many competing innersprings — but all-foam and latex mattresses are considered the best option for sleepers that prefer close conforming and targeted pressure relief.

Sleep Position Ratings
Puffy
The Puffy offers a medium soft feel. The memory foam found in the comfort layer has a low density, so sleepers will feel very close contouring and sink deeply beneath the surface. For many side sleepers, this sensation is quite comfortable. Side sleepers typically need extra padding to align the shoulders, back, and hips. Proper alignment usually means less pressure throughout the body.
That said, side sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds are less likely to receive enough support. This can affect their spinal alignment as the shoulders and hips sink lower than the rest of the body. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more may run into a similar issue. Due to the bed’s softer feel, these sleepers may sink a bit too much around the torso and midsection. Neck and lower back pain is likely to develop as a result. Back and stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds should feel more comfortable on the Puffy Mattress, but they may still notice some uneven sinkage.
Saatva
Firmness selection is a major advantage of the Saatva. Customers can choose from three distinct feels for their mattress. The medium soft option delivers the closest body-conforming. Sleepers still feel noticeable responsiveness from the coil-on-coil construction, but the polyfoam in the Euro-top layer has a plush feel with ample padding for side sleepers. The medium firm feel also features soft polyfoam in the Euro-top layer, but slightly less padding than the medium soft. The result is a fairly responsive surface with some moderate body-contouring. This firmness level is ideal for many side, back, and stomach sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds.
For the firm Saatva, the foam padding in the Euro-top layer has a firmer feel. Sleepers don’t feel much contouring from these models, but support is very strong and sinkage is less likely for back and stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds. For maximum reinforcement and responsiveness, customers can opt for a firm, 14.5-inch Saatva with thicker support coils.

How Is the Puffy Mattress Built?
memory foam infused with cooling gel to help minimize heat buildup on the surface. The memory foam has a fairly low density. This allows the material to conform closely, but it also means the foam will probably wear out somewhat quickly – particularly for sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds. The bed’s 2-inch transitional layer is a bit denser. This ensures sleepers won’t sink too deeply into the mattress. Still, durability is below-average for the Puffy Mattress.
The support core consists of 6 inches of high-density polyfoam. This sturdy material provides decent overall stability. However, the Puffy Mattress has a plush medium feel and this can cause excessive sinkage along the edges. As a result, some sleepers may feel less comfortable lying near the perimeter and somewhat confined to the middle of the mattress. The entire mattress is encased in a soft polyester cover.
How Is the Saatva Built?
The Saatva’s construction depends largely on which firmness and thickness is selected. The mattress begins with a Euro-top layer sewn with polyfoam and fiber padding. The padding is thicker and plusher for the medium soft feel, and somewhat plush for the medium firm. The firm feel is thinner and feels more supportive. Regardless of firmness level, all Saatva beds include additional polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers over a transitional layer of pocketed minicoils. Despite these thick padding materials, the Saatva is very responsive. As a result, its pressure-relieving and motion-isolating abilities are fairly limited.
The support core contains bonnell (hourglass) coils made from recycled steel. The coils have a low gauge, meaning each one is somewhat thick, and the layer is encased in high-density polyfoam to reinforce the edges against sinkage. The 11.5-inch Saatva has 4-inch support coils, and the 14.5-inch Saatva has 7-inch coils – but both feel very springy.
