The Puffy Mattress features a memory foam layer that conforms closely and alleviates pressure throughout the body.
Both mattresses offer excellent motion isolation for couples.
Constructed with copper-infused memory foam, the Layla Mattress is a flippable model with a different feel on each side.
Puffy vs. Layla Mattress Overview
Puffy vs. Layla Mattress Overview
Puffy is an online “bed-in-a-box” mattress brand that first opened up shop in 2017. The company’s flagship Puffy Mattress is constructed with a memory foam comfort layer over transitional and support layers of dense polyfoam. The mattress has a medium feel, which corresponds to a 5 on the 1-10 firmness scale. This means sleepers experience close body-contouring and will sink deeply into the mattress, especially if they weigh 130 pounds or more. The Puffy Mattress measures 10 inches thick.
Established in 2016, Layla is another popular bed-in-a-box brand. The flagship Layla Mattress is a flippable model. The top and bottom sides both feature a comfort layer made from copper-infused memory foam. One side has a medium soft (4) feel, while the other has a firm (7) feel. To change how firm or soft the bed feels, simply flip it onto the opposite side. The Layla Mattress also features a shared support core of high-density polyfoam. Like the Puffy Mattress, the Layla Mattress also measures 10 inches thick.
Read on to see how the Puffy and Layla mattresses compare in terms of feel, construction, pricing, and ratings for different performance categories. We’ll also discuss pros and cons of each model and take a closer look at the companies’ shipping, return, and warranty policies.

Puffy Mattress Highlights...
The Puffy Mattress offers a traditional memory foam feel. The foams conform very closely to create a deep, pressure-relieving cradle for the sleeper’s body.
Thanks in part to a low-density comfort layer, the Puffy Mattress sleeps cooler than many of its all-foam competitors.
Edge support is above-average.
The Puffy Mattress is very well suited to side sleepers, who often need extra cushioning to support the body and align the spine.
Since the mattress isolates motion very well and does not make any noise, it will minimize sleep disruptions for couples and co-sleepers.
Layla Mattress Highlights…
With a medium soft feel on one side and a firm feel on the other, the flippable Layla Mattress allows sleepers to choose between two distinct firmness levels.
The memory foam layers of the Layla Mattress are infused with cooling copper to minimize the buildup of body heat on each surface.
Like the Puffy Mattress, the Layla Mattress offers very good motion isolation for couples and is virtually silent when bearing weight.
The Layla Mattress delivers ample padding for side sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds while maintaining a flat, even surface for most back and stomach sleepers.
Sleep Position Ratings
Puffy Mattress
The Puffy Mattress is a great example of a mattress that provides a traditional memory foam experience. The comfort layer conforms closely and responds slowly, so sleepers will feel a deep body contour as they sink beneath the surface. Many liken this feeling to sleeping “in” – as opposed to sleeping “on” – the mattress. Side sleepers across different weight groups should feel fairly comfortable on this mattress thanks to its medium feel and plush cushioning.
Back and stomach sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds should also find the mattress reasonably comfortable, but it will probably feel too soft for people who use these positions and weigh more than 230 pounds. Back and stomach sleeping often requires less contouring and more reinforcement to prevent loss of support and excessive sagging. Heavier back and stomach sleepers will likely prefer a firmer mattress instead.
Layla Mattress
The Layla Mattress – like the Puffy Mattress – is constructed with memory foam comfort layers, so sleepers feel even body contouring as the mattress responds slowly to their body. However, the bed’s firmness levels are distinct from the medium feel of the Puffy Mattress. The medium soft side of the Layla Mattress offers exceptionally close conforming. Sleepers sink quite a bit on this surface, making it best suited to side sleepers weighing up to 230 pounds and back/stomach sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds.
The firm side still offers even contouring but it sinks very little and feels more supportive. Back and stomach sleepers will likely prefer this side, especially if they weigh 130 pounds or more. Lighter people who use these positions may find the firm side too stiff. The same goes for side sleepers in any weight group, since the firm surface provides minimal cushioning for the shoulders and hips.

Mattress Construction
Next, let’s take a closer look at how these beds are constructed, including the full height, weight, firmness, and material specs for the Puffy and Layla mattresses.
The Puffy Mattress has a 2-inch comfort layer of 2.5 PCF memory foam, which is a low-density material. Foam density can impact how a mattress performs in a number of areas. Since this model’s comfort layer has a lower density, it shouldn’t trap too much body heat or emit excessive off-gassing, but durability is fair at best and owners may notice body impressions forming in the surface after a few years of use. The Puffy Mattress contains a transitional layer of dense polyfoam to reinforce the comfort layer and prevent sleepers from sinking too deeply.
The bed’s support core consists of 1.5 PCF high-density polyfoam and measures 6 inches thick. This component stabilizes the entire mattress to keep sleepers on an even plane and minimize excessive sagging along the perimeter. The Puffy Mattress offers better edge support than many competing all-foam models, making it easier for people to get in and out of bed. The soft polyester cover can be removed and laundered in any household machine if stains occur. Altogether, the Puffy Mattress measures 10 inches thick, making it a medium-profile mattress.
How is the Layla Mattress Built?
The Layla Mattress is a flippable model constructed with a different comfort layer on each side. The medium soft side features 3 inches of copper-infused memory foam that is highly adaptive and will conform very closely to the sleeper’s body. This side also contains a transitional layer of convoluted polyfoam for added cushioning. The firm side’s memory foam comfort layer measures 1 inch thick, and this surface does not include a transitional layer. As a result, this side feels more supportive and won’t sink as much beneath the sleeper’s body.
The Layla Mattress is also designed with a shared support core of high-density polyfoam measuring 4.5 inches thick. Since the mattress is flippable, this layer provides primary support while the comfort layers on the opposite side deliver added reinforcement. That said, sleepers will probably notice more sinkage along the edges of the Layla Mattress – especially while using the medium soft side. The mattress has a non-removable cover that can be spot cleaned if stains occur. Like the Puffy Mattress, the Layla Mattress is a medium-profile model measuring 10 inches thick.

Full refunds are issued for all returns within the 101-night period, minus shipping charges for Alaska and Hawaii.
Puffy allows one sleep trial per household per year, and two trials maximum.
In the event of a return, Puffy will help customers donate the mattress to a local charity.
Warranty
Puffy offers a lifetime warranty for the Puffy Mattress:
This warranty is completely non-prorated. In the event that a defect develops at any point during its lifespan, Puffy will replace the mattress with a brand new model at no extra cost to the owner (including shipping and transportation fees).
Warranty coverage is contingent on proper foundational support. The mattress ‘must be used on an appropriately sized and suitable bed frame or base.’ Using an improper support system may void the warranty. The warranty will be voided if the mattress is not used with a suitable support system and damage occurs as a result.
Defects covered under warranty include sagging or body impressions in the sleep surface measuring 1.5 inches or deeper, physical flaws in the mattress that cause materials to split or crack, and manufacturing defects associated with the cover, such as zipper assembly or unraveling seams.
The warranty will not cover sagging or body impressions measuring less than 1.5 inches deep. Other defects not covered include signs of physical abuse such as burns, cuts, and stains; or replacement requests that occur due to owner allergies or changes in their comfort preferences.
In order to submit a warranty claim, owners must submit the order number, the owner’s full name, and both a written description and photograph of the defect in question.
This warranty is exclusively reserved for original owners who purchase their mattress from Puffy or an authorized retailer. Anyone who buys or acquires their mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized retailer will not be eligible for warranty coverage.

Layla offers a 120-night sleep trial for all mattress owners:

Mattress purchasers in the lower 48 states are eligible for a full product refund with no extra fees if they return their mattress within 120 nights. Customers in Alaska, Hawaii, and Canada will receive a product refund, but their extra shipping charges are non-refundable.
Because Layla does not restock mattresses, customers do not need to physically return their mattress to the company’s headquarters. In these cases, Layla requests owners to donate their mattress to a local charity organization.
To initiate the return process, customers should email Layla’s customer service department.
Warranty
Layla offers a lifetime warranty for the Layla Mattress:
Layla will, at the company’s sole option, repair or replace any mattress that is deemed defective or as long as the original owner uses the mattress. This warranty is entirely non-prorated.
Layla may opt to repair or replace individual components with defects (such as the cover), rather than replacing the entire mattress.
Warranty coverage depends on the use of proper foundational support. Per Layla: ‘Proper use is defined as using the mattress on a firm, rigid and smooth surface that allows air ventilation and supports the entire mattress, including the center, such as a slatted bed platform or box spring.’
Layla warns that pinching the foam while flipping the mattress may result in tearing, which is not covered under the warranty.
Mattress owners may need to pay up to $50 in shipping and handling fees for mattress repairs or replacements; variable fees will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The Layla Mattress warranty covers sagging and body indentations in the sleep surface measuring 1 inch or deeper. The warranty also covers defects associated with the mattress cover, such as broken zippers and seams coming apart.
The warranty does not cover body impressions measuring less than 1 inch deep. Additionally, the warranty does not cover damage that results from pinching or tearing the foam when flipping the bed. Other non-covered defects include physical damage resulting from misuse or abuse, the appearance of mold or vermin infestation, and repair or replacement requests due to changes in the owner’s comfort preferences.
Keeping the mattress in its packaging for longer than two weeks may void the warranty if damage occurs. Layla also voids the warranty if the bed is used in a commercial facility, such as a hotel or rental property.
This warranty is exclusively offered to original owners who purchase their mattress from Layla or an authorized retailer. Those who buy or acquire their mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized retailer will not be entitled to warranty coverage.
