Quick Overview

The Avocado Green Mattress is a latex hybrid bed made of all-organic and sustainably sourced materials. Available in a non-pillow-top option that rates as a Medium Firm feel, the Avocado also appeals to lighter individuals or those who simply like a softer feel with their pillow-top version (Medium feel).

Using a Joma wool cover and natural Dunlop latex irrespective of the build, the Avocado is Tuck’s Editor’s Pick as the Best Organic Mattress. As a latex hybrid, this mattress combines materials that are meant for durability and support.

The Medium Firm model might not be soft enough for some, it still contours pressure points well. Meanwhile, the pillow-top option is particularly effective for side sleepers who suffer from shoulder or hip problems.

If you’re looking for a green mattress, do not pass on the Avocado. Check out our full review below to learn why.

Ratings and Recommendations

Multiple Firmness Options
Good for Back Pain
Full sleep ratings
Durability VERY GOOD

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:Latex is highly durable. Because the Avocado Green substitutes polyfoam with latex in the comfort layer, the mattress has a longer-than-average projected lifespan especially coupled with very low gauge (firm) coils in the support core

Motion Isolation GOOD

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:Being a very firm hybrid (almost an innerspring), the Avocado will transfer motion more than all foam and other mattress builds.

Off-gassing VERY GOOD

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:Natural latex emits minimal off-gassing. Some initial odors may be present, but they tend to dissipate within a few days.

Conforming FAIR

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:The low-ILD latex used in the comfort layer of the Avocado mattress offers fairly close conforming, which some owners say helps alleviate pain and pressure in sensitive areas of their bodies.

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:The soft latex surface of an Avocado Green mattress may not be responsive or bouncy enough for some couples, despite the thick pocketed coil layer.

Temperature Neutrality EXCELLENT

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:The Avocado will sleep cooler than most given it's mostly innerspring construction coupled with latex which is great for tempurature regulation.

Edge Support VERY GOOD

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:Even by hybrid standards, Avocado mattresses offer above-average edge support, largely due to the thick pocketed coil layer and high-ILD latex layers in the support core.

Noise GOOD

WHAT USERS ARE SAYING:Some Avocado owners report squeaking and creaking noises when the mattress is bearing weight.

Side sleepers couldn’t be happier on the Avocado mattress, though folks who weigh 130 lbs and under often find themselves more comfortable on the pillow-top model that’s a Medium feel. Similarly, our in-house testing team found side sleepers of any weight receive great support and body contouring effects.

Our back sleeper test and back sleeping customers data found it’s an equally effective mattress for light and average weight folks. If you’re heavier, the Avocado is still a quality option. Our larger weight test did not reflect the issues found among some buyers.

The Avocado is a very strong mattress for most everyone.

Our testing process found the Avocado should also be great for you if…

  • You want all-organic materials in your bed. You can rest easier knowing the Avocado is sustainably built with eco-friendly materials.
  • Your body, especially your back, demands an even, supportive surface that keeps true the natural curvature of your spine.
  • You sleep with a partner. Considering the strong reinforced edge on the Avocado, you or your bedmate can sleep closer to the side of the mattress. Also, the latex foam helps disperse movement, so you won’t feel each other move during the night.

After the data collection and testing we’ve done, here are the categories where the Avocado mattress stood out:

Best Organic Mattress – Editor’s Pick  |  Best Latex Mattress  | Best Cooling Mattress for Hot Sleepers  |  Best Hybrid Mattress  |  Best Mattress for Stomach Sleepers  |  Best Firm Mattress  |  Best Mattress for Couples  |  Best Mattress for Sex

  2. There is no mandatory break-in period. Customers may opt to return their mattress at any point during the 100-night trial in exchange for a product refund.
  3. Avocado will cover all costs associated with mattress returns. The company will send a service partner to transport the mattress to a recycling facility or donate it to charity.
  4. Mattress refunds will be issued after Avocado receives the mattress in good condition for recycling or donation, or after the donation has been verified.
  5. Avocado’s sleep trial is limited to one mattress per household.

Avocado offers a 25-year limited warranty for both versions of the Avocado Green mattress.

  1. The warranty is divided into nonprorated and prorated coverage periods.
    • The first 10 years are nonprorated. Avocado will cover all costs associated with repairing or replacing the mattress, including shipping and handling charges.
    • Years 11 to 20 are prorated. The customer will be responsible for shipping and handling charges, as well as a percentage of the original mattress price that increases by 5% for each year of ownership. For example, if the mattress needs to be replaced during the 11th year of ownership, the owner will be responsible for 55% of the original price.
    • Years 21 to 25 are also proratedDuring this period, owners will pay a flat prorated charge of 95% of the original product price if their mattress needs to be replaced. They will also be responsible for shipping and handling charges.
  2. In the event that Avocado opts to replace the mattress, the replacement will be the same model and size as the original. In the event that the original has been discontinued, Avocado will replace it with the most comparable substitute available.
  3. Warranty coverage is contingent on proper foundational support. According to Avocado, Queen, King, and California King mattresses must be supported with frames that feature at least five to six legs; and Twin, Twin XL, and Full mattresses must be supported with frames that feature at least four legs. Additionally, slatted bed frames for Queen, King, and California King mattresses must be constructed with no more than five inches between each slat.
  4. The warranty will cover the following mattress defects:
    • Visible sagging or indentations in the sleep surface that measure at least one inch (1″) deep, and are not the direct result of owner misuse or improper foundational support.
    • Physical flaws in the latex that cause the material to split or crack.
    • Manufacturing flaws related to the mattress cover, including tears or unraveled stitches.
  5.  The warranty will not cover the following:
    • Visible sagging or indentations in the sleep surface that do not measure at least one inch (1″) deep, or normal increases in latex softness that do not affect the bed’s pressure-relieving qualities. These issues are considered standard wear and tear.
    • Repair or replacement requests that occur due to changes in the owner’s comfort preferences.
    • Burns, cuts, tears, stains, and other types of physical damage that occur due to owner misuse, improper cleaning, and/or inadequate foundational support.
    • Mold, odor, and/or discolorations that occur due to ‘abnormal care’, including exposure to extreme temperatures, water, or humidity.
  6.  The mattress must be unpackaged within two weeks of delivery. If the mattress is left in its packaging beyond two weeks, then the warranty may be voided.
  7. This warranty exclusively extends to original owners who purchase their mattress from Avocado or an authorized company retailer. Those who buy or acquire their mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized retailer will not be eligible for warranty protection.
