What You Need to Know about the Avocado Mattress

Mattress Type and Components: Avocado offers a latex hybrid mattress named the Avocado Green. This model is available in non-pillow-top and pillow-top versions.

  • The non-pillow-top Avocado Green model is constructed with layers of natural Dunlop latex (20 to 25 ILD) and Joma wool in the comfort system.
  • The pillow-top Avocado Green model features the same components as the non-pillow-top design, along with an additional two inches of Dunlop latex (14 to 19 ILD) inside the pillow-top layer.
  • Both the non-pillow-top and pillow-top models share the same support core, which consists of pocketed coils and an inch of Dunlop latex (26 to 31 ILD). The pocketed coils consist of 16-gauge perimeter coils, and 17-gauge and 14-gauge center coils. The coil count ranges from 756 to 1,414, depending on the selected size.
  • The cover for both Avocado Green mattress models is made from 100% organic cotton.

  • Two design options with different firmnesses
  • Green and certified organic materials
  • Good motion isolation and pressure relief
  • Strong edge support
  • Free shipping anywhere in the U.S.

  • Unknown mattress lifespan due to limited company history
  • Noise potential
  • Heavy and difficult to move

Product and Price Range: The Avocado Green mattress is available in six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. For the non-pillow-top model, these range in price from $959 (Twin) to $1,599 (King and California King). For the pillow-top model, these range in price from $1,199 (Twin) to $2,099 (King and California King). All Avocado mattresses are manufactured in the United States.

Avocado Customer Satisfaction Rating Comparison

Avocado Mattress Sleep Ratings

CategoryCriteriaAvocado Green Mattress RatingWhat Avocado Users Say
Customer SatisfactionBased on data collection, this is an overall customer sentiment regarding the Avocado mattress.76%The Avocado Green mattress has earned a customer satisfaction rating of 76%, which is better than the average rating for hybrid models.
Durability Hybrids tend to degrade faster than other mattresses, often due to low-grade polyfoam used in the support core.GoodLatex is highly durable. Because the Avocado Green substitutes polyfoam with latex in the support core, the mattress has a longer-than-average projected lifespan. However, Avocado has been in business for less than three years, so long-term performance has not been assessed.
Motion IsolationIdeally, a hybrid mattress will fall in the middle of the spectrum in terms of motion isolation: more motion transfer than memory foam or latex, but less transfer than an innerspring.GoodSome motion transfer is to be expected from any hybrid, but Avocado owners report that the latex surface minimizes and isolates motion fairly effectively.
Sex Most hybrids feature a blend softness and bounciness that many couples find conducive for sex.FairThe soft latex surface of an Avocado Green mattress may not be responsive or bouncy enough for some couples, despite the thick pocketed coil layer.
ConformingHybrid mattresses often provide a good balance of firmness and body-conforming, making them suitable for people who feel that memory foam is too soft and innersprings don’t relieve enough pressure.GoodThe low-ILD latex used in the comfort layer of the Avocado mattress offers fairly close conforming, which some owners say helps alleviate pain and pressure in sensitive areas of their bodies.
Temperature NeutralityHybrid mattresses tend to retain less body heat and sleep cooler than models made from memory foam or latex.GoodOne downside to latex mattresses is that they can be heat traps, but the mostly natural latex used in Avocado mattresses sleeps cooler for most people than synthetic or blended latex.
Off-gassingOff-gassing may occur, but most hybrids produce less odor than mattresses made exclusively of foam.GoodNatural latex emits minimal off-gassing. Some initial odors may be present, but they tend to dissipate within a few days.
Edge SupportHybrids usually provide more edge support than memory foam and latex mattresses, and are usually on par with traditional innersprings. Very GoodEven by hybrid standards, Avocado mattresses offer above-average edge support, largely due to the thick pocketed coil layer and high-ILD latex layers in the support core.
NoiseHybrids tend to produce more noise than strictly foam mattresses, primarily due to the spring and coil components of the support core.FairSome Avocado owners report squeaking and creaking noises when the mattress is bearing weight.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMattress size is an important consideration, but the average hybrid is lighter and easier to move than most traditional innerspring or foam models. FairA Queen-size non-pillow-top Avocado mattress weighs 97 pounds, which may be manageable for some, but the Queen-size pillow-top model weighs 132 pounds.

  1. The sleep trial begins on the date of delivery.
  2. There is no mandatory break-in period. Customers may opt to return their mattress at any point during the 100-night trial in exchange for a product refund.
  3. Avocado will cover all costs associated with mattress returns. The company will send a service partner to transport the mattress to a recycling facility or donate it to charity.
  4. Mattress refunds will be issued after Avocado receives the mattress in good condition for recycling or donation, or after the donation has been verified.
  5. Avocado’s sleep trial is limited to one mattress per household.

Warranty: Avocado offers a 25-year limited warranty for both versions of the Avocado Green mattress.

  1. The warranty is divided into nonprorated and prorated coverage periods.
    • The first 10 years are nonprorated. Avocado will cover all costs associated with repairing or replacing the mattress, including shipping and handling charges.
    • Years 11 to 20 are prorated. The customer will be responsible for shipping and handling charges, as well as a percentage of the original mattress price that increases by 5% for each year of ownership. For example, if the mattress needs to be replaced during the 11th year of ownership, the owner will be responsible for 55% of the original price.
    • Years 21 to 25 are also prorated. During this period, owners will pay a flat prorated charge of 95% of the original product price if their mattress needs to be replaced. They will also be responsible for shipping and handling charges.
  2. In the event that Avocado opts to replace the mattress, the replacement will be the same model and size as the original. In the event that the original has been discontinued, Avocado will replace it with the most comparable substitute available.
  3. Warranty coverage is contingent on proper foundational support. According to Avocado, Queen, King, and California King mattresses must be supported with frames that feature at least five to six legs; and Twin, Twin XL, and Full mattresses must be supported with frames that feature at least four legs. Additionally, slatted bed frames for Queen, King, and California King mattresses must be constructed with no more than five inches between each slat.
  4. The warranty will cover the following mattress defects:
    • Visible sagging or indentations in the sleep surface that measure at least one inch (1″) deep, and are not the direct result of owner misuse or improper foundational support.
    • Physical flaws in the latex that cause the material to split or crack.
    • Manufacturing flaws related to the mattress cover, including tears or unraveled stitches.
  5.  The warranty will not cover the following:
    • Visible sagging or indentations in the sleep surface that do not measure at least one inch (1″) deep, or normal increases in latex softness that do not affect the bed’s pressure-relieving qualities. These issues are considered standard wear and tear.
    • Repair or replacement requests that occur due to changes in the owner’s comfort preferences.
    • Burns, cuts, tears, stains, and other types of physical damage that occur due to owner misuse, improper cleaning, and/or inadequate foundational support.
    • Mold, odor, and/or discolorations that occur due to ‘abnormal care’, including exposure to extreme temperatures, water, or humidity.
  6.  The mattress must be unpackaged within two weeks of delivery. If the mattress is left in its packaging beyond two weeks, then the warranty may be voided.
  7. This warranty exclusively extends to original owners who purchase their mattress from Avocado or an authorized company retailer. Those who buy or acquire their mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized retailer will not be eligible for warranty protection.
