Quick Summary

Quick Summary

You know that cushiony feeling you get when you sink your head into a big, fluffy hotel pillow? You might have a Pacific Coast pillow to thank for that. Their pillows are used in over 2 million hotel rooms worldwide.

The Double DownAround Organic Cotton Cover Pillow features a pillow-in-a-pillow design. The innermost pillow is filled with “Resilia” feathers. These feathers were specially developed by the team at Pacific Coast, resulting in a pillow that’s resilient (hence the name) and supportive for the long-term. The feather pillow is neatly tucked within an outer pillow of “Hyperclean” down with 550 fill power, giving the pillow its softness and cushion.

The Double DownAround Organic Cotton Cover Pillow comes in three sizes (standard, queen, and king), and three firmness levels (‘Soft’, ‘Medium’, and ‘Firm’) to suit people of all sleeping positions. The variable firmness comes from the pillow’s gusset. This fabric wall encases the down interior, and ranges from 1 to 2 inches, depending on the firmness.

For sleepers with allergies or those looking for a more affordable option, there’s the Pacific Coast Restful Nights Down Alternative Pillow. Available in standard/queen and king sizes with a ‘Medium’ firmness, this pillow features a polyester fiberfill interior that mimics the feel of traditional down, so you can enjoy the same level of support and comfort for a lower cost and allergen risk.

Both Pacific Coast pillows come with a 100 percent cotton cover, and are backed by a three-year warranty and the company’s 30-Night Comfort Guarantee.

The strengths of the Pacific Coast Double DownAround Organic Cotton Cover Pillow lie in its customization options. With multiple firmness choices, sleepers of any size and sleep position can find a model that comfortably supports their head and neck while they sleep, ensuring healthy spinal alignment. This also holds true for the Restful Nights Down Alternative, to a certain extent, since the pillow comes in a popular ‘Medium’ firmness.

Overall, sleepers also appreciate that these pillows boast longer-than-average durability (thanks to being so easy to clean), and sleep relatively cool.

The biggest surprise people had was regarding the pillow’s weight. Down and down alternative pillows are typically very lightweight, but the pillow-in-pillow construction and fabric gusset of the Double DownAround made this one heavier than average. Even so, most sleepers were able to move the pillow without issue.

What Type of Sleeper is Best Suited to Pacific Coast Pillows?

The comfort and support a pillow provides often depends on your preferred sleeping position and body weight. Below we share customer ratings for each of the Pacific Coast pillows, broken out by weight and sleep preferences, based on real owner experiences and product analysis.

The Pacific Coast Double DownAround – Medium sleeps comfortably for just about anybody. Others were better suited for different sleeping positions and body types. The Double DownAround – Firm and the Restful Nights Down Alternative performed best for side sleepers, particularly among sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds. Stomach and back sleepers found the Double DownAround – Soft to be most supportive.

Construction & Firmness

Pacific Coast pillows are known for their longevity, thanks to their innovative construction and quality fill materials.

The Double DownAround Organic Cotton Cover Pillow essentially contains four layers. An inner pillow of “Resilia” feathers is encased within an outer pillow containing 550 fill power “Hyperclean” down. That’s wrapped around with a gusset fabric ribbon to maximize loft. Finally, all of this is covered with a 100 percent cotton cover to enhance breathability and airflow.

This pillow-in-a-pillow construction gives the Double DownAround its comfort, moldability, and support. It also helps explain the pillow’s denseness and weight.

The Double DownAround pillow comes in three firmness levels, each with a different gusset size. The ‘Soft’ has a 1-inch gusset, the ‘Medium’ has a 1.5-inch gusset, and the ‘Firm’ has a 2-inch gusset.

Both the down and feathers used in the Double DownAround are “Hyperclean,” a term registered by Pacific Coast to describe their unique cleaning method. Feathers and down are washed and rinsed eight times before they ever get placed into a pillow, removing allergens, dust, and dirt. This enables them to secure the pillow with an allergy-free warranty.

The Restful Nights Down Alternative pillow features a simpler construction but with stronger allergy protection. It has a fill of Trillium polyester fiberfill interior and a 370-thread count cotton cover. The trillium fill is engineered to feel just like real down, offering cushiony support while optimizing the pillow’s hypoallergenic qualities. This pillow comes in a single firmness level, a true ‘Medium’.

Pacific Coast makes all of their pillows in the USA, from imported materials.

  • Can You Wash Pacific Coast Pillows?

Both the Pacific Coast Double DownAround Organic Cotton Cover and Restful Nights Down Alternative pillows are machine washable and dryable.

  • Pacific Coast Pillow Care Instructions

To wash your pillow, you can use any water temperature, just be aware that warm and hot temperatures may shrink the fabric somewhat. Always wash two at the same time, to keep your washer balanced. Use the fastest speed (this removes extra moisture), and add an extra rinse cycle. Do not use fabric softener as this can reduce the fluffiness of the down and feather interior.

To dry your pillow, you can use any temperature. As with water, be aware that hotter temperatures may cause shrinkage of the fabric. Use multiple cycles until you are sure the pillow is completely dry, and there are no clumps or odor present.
