Allswell Mattress Topper Reviews

The Bottom Line.

  • Allswell offers 3 mattress toppers made from premium memory foam infused with copper, graphite, and other cooling components.
  • Choose from ‘Medium Soft’ or ‘Medium’ settings.
  • The Allswell toppers conform closely to alleviate aches and pains, and also isolate motion transfer for couples.

Quick Summary

Quick Summary

Allswell launched in early 2018, yet the brand has already made a huge impact on the mattress industry. Almost immediately, Allswell’s mattresses started selling out and thousands of eager customers were placed on a waiting list.

The company credits its emphasis on affordable luxury for its ongoing success. In addition to their mattresses, Allswell sells a variety of bedding items, including blankets, throws, sheets, duvets, shams, and decorative pillows.

As Allswell continues to expand its presence in the mattress and bedding arena, it has introduced its own series of mattress toppers. Allswell has three types of toppers for shoppers to choose from:

In terms of firmness, these toppers range from Medium Soft to Medium. While providing a traditional memory foam feel, all three types are significantly cool and breathable for all-foam toppers, with a special emphasis on wicking away body heat and moisture.

Allswell Topper Ratings

Below you’ll find a series of recommendations and ratings on Allswell’s trio of mattress toppers based on our expert testing.

4" Copper Gel Ratings
Category Criteria Topper Rating What Our Testing Shows
Durability Durability refers to how long a topper will perform well throughout prolonged, consistent use. N/A Since this is a new product, we don’t have any data on how long this product lasts. Based on the thickness, density and types of foam, however, we can predict this topper will last for around three or four years.
Support Support refers to a toppers ability to provide a flat, even surface. A supportive topper will help align the spine and pelvis, and will not sink under heavier areas of the body. This isn’t always important for toppers if they used with a supportive mattress. Good As an all foam surface, this topper isn’t particularly supportive. That being said, the polyfoam on the bottom definitely adds to the overall support.
Conforming Some toppers will conform closely to a sleeper’s body, helping to align the spine and preventing pressure points from developing, while other toppers offer little to no conforming. Toppers made of memory foam and/or latex tend to offer the best conforming. Excellent The topmost layer of memory foam on this topper is highly conforming, exhibiting that classic slow-responding memory foam feel.
Temperature Neutrality Some toppers absorb and trap a significant amount of body heat. This may cause sleepers to feel overly warm, potentially interfering with sleep. Good Since this topper is all foam, it will inevitably retain a decent amount of heat and sleep hot. However, the copper infusion helps promote breathability.
Motion Isolation Movement on a topper creates motion transfer that may be felt throughout the rest of the mattress; for couples, this can cause sleep disruptions whenever someone gets into or out of bed or shifts positions. Toppers that are softer and more adaptive minimize motion transfer and isolate it to smaller areas of the sleep reducing the risk of nighttime disruptions for sleep partners. Very Good Like many foam toppers, this model isolates motion very well and is thus good for couples.
Odor Most toppers emit harmless off-gassing particles when they are new, with foam and to a lesser extent latex toppers carrying what some find to be an unpleasant odor. Usually off-gassing smells dissipate in a few days. However, some toppers produce stronger odors that can last for much longer. Good We did notice a slight off-gassing smell, but it seemed relatively mild and agreeable compared to some competing models.
Sex Toppers that are more responsive and bouncy tend to be better for sex. Close-conforming toppers that are not as responsive may cause couples to sink too deeply, which can negatively affect sex. Fair Per usual with memory foam, this topper is not at all bouncy or responsive. Consequently, some couples may find that it negatively affects sex.
Noise Some toppers make noise when a sleeper moves around on them. Noisy toppers can cause issues for couples, as the movements of one sleeper can more easily wake the other sleeper. Excellent We found this topper to produce practically no noise at all while undergoing sleeper movement.
3" Graphite Ratings
Category Criteria Topper Rating What Our Testing Shows
Durability Durability refers to how long a topper will perform well throughout prolonged, consistent use. N/A Since this is a new product, we don’t have any data on how long this product lasts. Based on the thickness, density and types of foam, however, we can predict this topper will last for around three or four years.
Support Support refers to a toppers ability to provide a flat, even surface. A supportive topper will help align the spine and pelvis, and will not sink under heavier areas of the body. This isn’t always important for toppers if they used with a supportive mattress. Fair As this topper is made of pure memory foam, it’s not very supportive at all. When placed on top of a supportive mattress, however, this shouldn’t be an issue.
Conforming Some toppers will conform closely to a sleeper’s body, helping to align the spine and preventing pressure points from developing, while other toppers offer little to no conforming. Toppers made of memory foam and/or latex tend to offer the best conforming. Excellent Made of pure, graphite-infused memory foam, this topper provides excellent conforming. Sleepers will experience that classic memory foam “hug” feel with this topper.
Temperature Neutrality Some toppers absorb and trap a significant amount of body heat. This may cause sleepers to feel overly warm, potentially interfering with sleep. Very Good As an all-foam topper, it will definitely retain body heat and sleep hot to an extent. Nonetheless, its graphite infusion greatly increases its breathability, making it sleep pretty cool for memory foam.
Excellent As with many foam toppers, this model demonstrates great motion isolation, meaning you won’t wake your co-sleeper.
Odor Most toppers emit harmless off-gassing particles when they are new, with foam and to a lesser extent latex toppers carrying what some find to be an unpleasant odor. Usually off-gassing smells dissipate in a few days. However, some toppers produce stronger odors that can last for much longer. Good There was a mild off-gassing smell, but it seemed fairly agreeable next to some other similar models.
Sex Toppers that are more reresponsive and bouncy tend to be better for sex. Close-conforming toppers that are not as responsive may cause couples to sink too deeply, which can negatively affect sex. Fair As an all-memory foam topper, this product has virtually no bounce. This may be an issue for some couples.
Noise Some toppers make noise when a sleeper moves around on them. Noisy toppers can cause issues for couples, as the movements of one sleeper can more easily wake the other sleeper. Excellent We found this topper to be almost silent as we tossed and turned on top of it, making it great for couples.

Good As a highly conforming, all-foam topper, this model only offers so much support. However, the bottom polyfoam layer does help with this.
Conforming Some toppers will conform closely to a sleeper’s body, helping to align the spine and preventing pressure points from developing, while other toppers offer little to no conforming. Toppers made of memory foam and/or latex tend to offer the best conforming. Excellent The topmost memory foam layer of this topper is highly conforming, providing the slow-responding “hug” feeling often found in dense memory foams.
Temperature Neutrality Some toppers absorb and trap a significant amount of body heat. This may cause sleepers to feel overly warm, potentially interfering with sleep. Very Good Featuring memory foam infused with both graphite and copper and a “cool touch” surface in the middle, this topper sleeps impressively cool for a all-foam model.
Very Good This topper displays very good motion isolation, lessening the chances that you wake your co-sleeper.
Odor Most toppers emit harmless off-gassing particles when they are new, with foam and to a lesser extent latex toppers carrying what some find to be an unpleasant odor. Usually off-gassing smells dissipate in a few days. However, some toppers produce stronger odors that can last for much longer. Good We did notice a light off-gassing odor, but it seemed fairly mild compared to some other foam models we’ve tested.
Sex Toppers that are more reresponsive and bouncy tend to be better for sex. Close-conforming toppers that are not as responsive may cause couples to sink too deeply, which can negatively affect sex. Fair This topper is not bouncy or responsive, meaning it may negatively affect sex for some couples.
Noise Some toppers make noise when a sleeper moves around on them. Noisy toppers can cause issues for couples, as the movements of one sleeper can more easily wake the other sleeper. Excellent We found this topper to be extremely quiet during movement.

Overall, Allswell’s mattress toppers provide excellent contouring while retaining less body heat than the average all-foam topper. Out of the three, the CoolTouch is the coolest while the Graphite provides the closest conforming (but least supportive).

All this said, it’s important to remember that a high-quality mattress topper is no substitute for a mattress itself. If a mattress is old and sagging, a mattress topper can only offer so much comfort. Instead, it might be a better idea to look into buying a new mattress.

What Type of Sleeper is Best Suited to an Allswell Mattress Topper?

For people who need a highly conforming sleep surface in order to better align their spine and/or alleviate pain, Allswell toppers might help. General fans of the memory foam ‘hug’ feel will also appreciate these toppers.

Allswell has infused their memory foam toppers with cooling graphite and/or copper gel, making them fairly breathable . Consequently, these are suitable for those who love memory foam but sleep too hot. Allswell’s mattress toppers also wick away moisture, which benefits sleepers who tend to experience night sweats.

We’ve graded the Allswell mattress toppers across sleeper weight groups and positions to show who may or may not be suited to each product. Our findings are below.

Please note that these ratings are as objective as possible, and that everyone has varying experiences on different toppers, which are also influenced by the mattress beneath. Sleeper comfort and spinal support are the most important factors when it comes to mattresses and mattress toppers.

Both the Copper Gel and Cool Touch toppers are 4″ thick. They each feature two foam layers. The top 2″ memory foam layers conform closely to the sleeper’s body, while the bottom 2″ polyfoam layers offers firm body support.

The Copper Gel Mattress Topper uses the unique properties of copper to draw heat away from the body. As for the Cool Touch Mattress Topper, it combines the cooling abilities of both  graphite and copper to create a sleep surface that’s especially crisp and refreshing.
