Saatva vs Helix Mattress Overview
Saatva vs Helix Mattress Overview
U.S.-based Saatva has been producing mattresses and bedding since 2010. The company’s six mattresses include the flagship Saatva model, a coil-on-coil innerspring mattress available in three firmness settings and two thickness profiles. Customers may select the medium-soft (4) “Plush Soft” model; the medium-firm (6) “Luxury Firm” option, or the “Firm” (7.5) model.
Helix Sleep is a mattress and bedding company based in New York. The brand’s unique Helix Color MATCH system helps customers choose the right mattress according to their sleep position, support needs, and preferences. Helix’s Classic, LUXE, and Organic mattress lines include a variety of hybrid models of varying firmness levelss. This review focuses on the Helix Midnight, a hybrid model with a memory foam comfort layer and a breathable cover.
Please note: Saatva and Helix offer other mattresses along with the items described above.
Saatva also sells the memory foam Loom & Leaf mattress; the Zenhaven mattress, which is made with Talalay latex; the customizable airbed, Solaire; the Saatva HD, designed for heavier sleepers; and a dual-sided youth mattress.
Helix makes six standard hybrid mattresses: the Sunset, Twilight, and Midnight, which are made with memory foam comfort layers; and the Dusk, Dawn, and Moonlight, made with Helix’s proprietary Dynamic Foam material. All six models are also available in LUXE hybrid versions. In addition, Helix produces the Birch, a certified organic mattress made with latex and wool.
While the Saatva and Helix both offer above-average breathability and temperature neutrality, they are made from different materials and best suit different types of customers. This page compares and contrasts the mattresses, as well as each company’s shipping policies and warranties. Sleep Position Ratings
Saatva Mattress
While the Saatva comes in 11.5- and 14.5-inch thickness profiles, the mattress’ coil support core and reinforced edges make both variations ideal for heavier individuals, stomach sleepers under 230 pounds, and people with back problems. Back sleepers of all sizes found the Saatva particularly comfortable. However, most members of our testing team gave the mattress above-average ratings, regardless of their weight or sleep style, making it a good option for combination sleepers. Hot sleepers also appreciated the Saatva’s Euro-top cover, which they felt offered exceptional cooling and temperature regulation.
Helix Mattress
Our testing team found that the Helix is best suited to light and average weight individuals, with stomach sleepers under 130 pounds giving the bed the highest ratings. In contrast, stomach sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds found that the Helix did not offer enough support for their liking. Thanks to its memory foam comfort layer, this model provides a fairly responsive sleep surface. The mattress also received above-average ratings for temperature neutrality, making it a good choice for hot sleepers, and some testers noted that it provided decent motion isolation.

Mattress Construction
Next let’s look at how the Saatva and Helix models are made. The table below lists firmness, thickness, weight, and composition specs for both beds.
All Saatva models feature a Euro-top cover made from foam, organic cotton, and dacron fibers. The Euro-top for the “Plush Soft” and “Luxury Firm” models consists of 1.25 inches of soft polyfoam over .75 inches of dacron fibers, while the “Firm” model uses 1.5 inches of firm polyfoam over .75 inches of dacron fiber. Beneath the Euro-top is a 1-inch, comfort layer consisting of .6 inches of polyfoam and .4 inches of memory foam. The “Plush Soft” option features an additional 2.5-inch polyfoam layer, which offers greater body conforming than the other models.
The Saatva’s 4-inch transitional layer is comprised of 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils, which prevent the sleeper from sinking through the comfort layer into the mattress’ support core. These medium-thick coils give the sleep surface a responsive feel without sagging or stiffness. The support layer is made of thick, 13-gauge bonnell coils. These coils are 4 inches high in the 11.5-inch model and 7 inches high in the 14.5-inch model.
How Is the Helix Built?
Every Helix mattress comes with a non-removable dual-layer polyester cover. Under the soft, stretchy cover lies2 inches of low-density gel-infused memory foam that conform to the sleepers’ body and reduce motion transfer.
Serving as a buffer between the comfort layer and the support core, the Helix’s 1-inch transitional layer is made from the company’s proprietary Helix Dynamic Foam. The mattress’ support core features a layer of 8-inch pocketed coils above an inch of high-density, 1.8 PCF base foam. The support layer’s construction helps maintain continuous airflow and keep the sleep surface cool.

Customers may exchange their bed for a flat shipping fee of $99.
Warranty
Saatva offers a lifetime, non-prorated warranty. During the first two years, Saatva will replace a mattress at no extra charge if it is deemed defective. For the remaining warranty period, Saatva will repair and re-cover a Saatva mattress for a flat fee of $149.
Saatva also offers the ‘Fairness Replacement Option’ in lieu of standard warranty coverage. Owners may purchase a new bed at a discounted rate, rather than having their current mattress repaired. Saatva does not charge a delivery fee and owners may keep their old mattress at no extra cost.
The warranty is contingent on the use of a proper support system. The warranty will be voided if a Queen or King mattress is used with a metal bed frame that does not have a five- or six-legged support structure. The warranty will also be voided if a Twin or Full mattress is used with a metal bed frame that does not have four legs. The warranty covers sagging or indentations in the sleep surface that measure 1 inch or deeper. The warranty does not cover sagging, indentations that measure less than 1 inch deep, or damage to the mattress like cuts or stains. Customers must notify Saatva in writing regarding any claims. The warranty is exclusively available for original owners that purchase their mattress from Saatva or an authorized retailer.

Helix Sleep offers a 100-night sleep trial for all mattress owners. This sleep trial includes a 30-night break-in period. Customers may not return their mattress until at least 30 nights have elapsed. Customers who are not satisfied with their mattress after sleeping on it can request a new comfort layer from Helix Sleep at no extra cost. The topper will make the mattress softer or firmer (depending on the request). Helix offers exchanges for mattress sizes, but not firmness settings. Once a refund has been issued to a customer, it will take roughly five to seven business days before the money shows up in their account statement. All returned mattresses are recycled or donated to charity.
Warranty
Helix offers a 10-year warranty for all standard hybrids. The warranty is completely non-prorated. Helix will, at their sole discretion, repair or replace all mattresses with defects for as long as the warranty is valid.
Warranty coverage is contingent on proper foundational support. Helix mattresses are designed for use on ‘a firm, solid-surface, on a bed base that is structurally capable’ of supporting both the mattress and the sleeper(s). Failure to utilize a proper foundation may result in denied warranty claims and/or a voided warranty. The warranty covers sagging and indentations in the sleep surface measuring 1 inch or deeper. Other covered defects include physical defects that cause materials to split or crack, and manufacturing flaws associated with the cover. The warranty does not cover sagging indentations measuring less than 1 inch. It also will not cover issues that arise due to changes in the owner’s mattress preferences, or physical damage such as burns, cuts, and stains.
Customers who wish to return a defective mattress must ship the item to Helix at their own expense and include a copy of the original proof of purchase. If the mattress is deemed defective, Helix will reimburse the owner for up to $100 of these shipping charges. Repaired or replaced mattresses fall under the same warranty coverage as the original model. If a mattress is deemed defective, owners may also upgrade to a different model. Upgrade mattresses are subject to a new 10-year warranty. Warranty coverage is non-transferable, and is exclusively offered to the original purchaser. Anyone who acquires or buys a Helix mattress from the purchaser or a third-party mattress retailer will not be eligible for warranty protection.
