Loom & Leaf vs Tempur-Pedic Mattress Overview
Loom & Leaf vs Tempur-Pedic Mattress Overview
Saatva is a popular online mattress brand that offers a selection of mattresses constructed with different comfort and support materials. The Loom & Leaf is Saatva’s only all-foam mattress. This model is constructed with two memory foam comfort layers and a support core consisting of two high-density polyfoam layers. The Loom & Leaf is available in two different firmness levels, medium and firm, which correspond to a 5.5 and 8, respectively, on the 1-10 firmness scale. Altogether, the mattress measures 12 inches thick.
Tempur-Pedic has been a leading mattress brand for nearly 30 years, and was one of the first companies to popularize memory foam as a bedding material. The TEMPUR-Adapt, one of Tempur-Pedic’s most popular models, is constructed with a comfort layer of proprietary memory foam. Customers can choose from two options for this mattress: an all-foam model that also includes a support core of high-density polyfoam, or a hybrid with a pocketed coil support core. In terms of firmness level, both versions of the TEMPUR-Adapt are considered medium (5). They each measure 11 inches thick.
Because they are constructed with memory foam comfort layers, the Loom & Leaf and TEMPUR-Adapt models share a few similarities, but there are a few differences to note, as well. This comparison guide will discuss how these mattresses stack up in terms of construction, pricing, and performance across different categories. Read on to learn more.
Specifies how long the product maintains structure, providing comfort and support before it begins to deteriorate. For reference, the average mattress lifespan is 6-8 years.
Loom & Leaf mattresses are made to perform for six to seven years on average, which is on par with most memory foam beds.

Off-gassing

Most new products emit chemical smells after being removed from packaging. Off-gassing odors are considered non-toxic, but can be quite unpleasant nonetheless.
Some owners have reported unpleasant off-gassing smells at first, but these odors tend to dissipate within one or two days.

Pressure Relief
x
This refers to the degree to which a mattress molds to or cradles the contours of the body. This helps alleviate pressure point pain, especially on the hips and shoulders.
Loom & Leaf mattresses conform closely to sleeper’s bodies to align the spine, target pressure points, and alleviate pain symptoms. Two firmness levels are available to accommodate users with different preferences.

Temperature Neutrality
x
The temperature of a mattress throughout the night is affected by how much body heat is retained. Several factors affect temperature neutrality, including material composition, layer thickness, and dissipation of heat through airflow.
Loom & Leaf mattresses feature cooling gel foam layers in the comfort system, but some owners still claim their mattress is a heat trap.

Edge Support
x
The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.
Like most memory foam mattresses, Loom & Leaf models have only fair edge support.

Noise
x
Certain mattresses – particularly those with coils – can be quite noisy when bearing weight. Others are nearly silent. Material composition is often the limiting factor for noise potential.

Loom & Leaf Mattress Highlights...
The Loom & Leaf is available with either a medium or firm feel, allowing customers to choose between two distinct firmness and contouring levels.
The mattress provides excellent motion isolation and does not produce any noise, making it a great choice for couples and co-sleepers.
The bed’s top layer is constructed from dense memory foam that shouldn’t sag or develop impressions too quickly. As a result, its expected lifespan is longer than average.
All Loom & Leaf orders in the contiguous U.S. qualify for free White Glove delivery, which includes in-home assembly and old mattress removal at no extra charge.
TEMPUR-Adapt Mattress Highlights…
Customers can choose between a contouring, pressure-relieving all-foam TEMPUR-Adapt or a more responsive and supportive hybrid model.
Since they have a medium feel and conform closely, TEMPUR-Adapt mattresses can provide relief for sleepers with back pain and pressure points.
TEMPUR foam is quite durable and will hold up longer than the memory foams used in many competing mattresses.
Both the all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt models isolate motion very well and are completely silent when bearing weight.
Sleep Position Ratings
Loom & Leaf
The Loom & Leaf is available with a medium or firm feel, both of which offer advantages to different people based on their sleep position. The medium-feel models contour quite closely to the body and form a deep, pressure-relieving cradle. This feel is optimal for many side sleepers, since the position often requires extra cushioning for the shoulders and hips to ensure even spinal alignment.
Loom & Leaf mattresses with firm feels contour less and provide more support. As a result, this firmness level is best suited to back and stomach sleepers – particularly individuals who weigh at least 130 pounds. These positions typically need more reinforcement in order to keep the body on an even plane without sagging around the midsection and waist.
TEMPUR-Adapt
The all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapt models each have a medium feel that is quite comparable to the medium-feel Loom & Leaf. The memory foam comfort layer provides close conforming and ample cushioning, making it suitable for most side sleepers who weigh up to 230 pounds. Most back sleepers in this weight group can also rest comfortably on the mattress without sinking too much.
Stomach sleepers may also receive adequate support from the TEMPUR-Adapt, but they are more likely to sink to an uncomfortable degree. The same is true of anyone who weighs more than 230 pounds, regardless of their preferred sleep position. After testing both versions of the TEMPUR-Adapt, we found that sleepers across different weight and position groups did not feel significantly less or more comfortable on the all-foam model compared to the hybrid or vice versa.

Mattress Construction
The table below lists full material and construction specs for the Loom & Leaf and both versions of the TEMPUR-Adapt.
The Loom & Leaf contains two memory foam comfort layers. The first layer has a density of 4 pounds per cubic foot (PCF), which is considered a medium density. This material will conform closely and respond slowly. It is also ventilated with small holes to promote airflow near the surface and infused with gel intended to help the mattress sleep cool. The second comfort layer has a denser 5 PCF composition, so it reinforces the top layer while adding extra contouring.
The Loom & Leaf’s 7.5-inch support core is made up of two high-density polyfoam layers. The 1.6 PCF transitional layer and the 1.8 PCF base layer provide good overall stability for the mattress, though owners may notice some sinkage along the edges when they get in and out of bed – a common issue with all-foam models. The cover is made of 100% organic cotton. The Loom & Leaf measures 12 inches thick altogether, making it a high-profile mattress.
How Is the TEMPUR-Adapt Built?
Both versions of the TEMPUR-Adapt feature the same top two layers, which consist of a TEMPUR-ES memory foam comfort layer and a TEMPUR memory foam transitional layer. Both of these foams are proprietary materials exclusive to Tempur-Pedic mattresses. The TEMPUR-ES is more adaptive and will conform quite closely to the body, creating the pressure-relieving cradle that is commonly associated with memory foam mattresses. The TEMPUR foam is slightly denser, which prevents sleepers from sinking too deeply and coming into contact with the stiffer base components.
Support core construction is where the all-foam and hybrid TEMPUR-Adapts differ. The foam model’s support layer consists of solid high-density polyfoam, while the hybrid features individually pocketed coils. The coil system generates more responsiveness, creating a light bounce on the surface when sleepers move around or get on and off the mattress.
However, both versions of the TEMPUR-Adapt offer comparable feels defined by deep contouring and limited responsiveness. These models are encased in a polyester cover. Unlike other Tempur-Pedic beds, the TEMPUR-Adapt’s cover is not removable. The all-foam and hybrid models each measure 11 inches thick and are considered medium-profile mattresses.
