Brooklyn Signature vs. Casper Hybrid Overview
Brooklyn Signature vs. Casper Hybrid Overview
Brooklyn Bedding, founded in 2009, is an offshoot of R&S Mattress, which began in 1995. The company sells six foam and hybrid mattresses, including their flagship foam hybrid mattress, the Brooklyn Signature. Depending on your sleep needs, you can choose among three firmness options, including soft (3.5 out of 10), medium (5.5 out of 10), and firm (7.5 out of 10).
Due in part to this customization, we’ve found the Brooklyn Signature to be “good” or “very good” for all sleep types and weights. The mattress itself has a dual support core: 6 inches of pocketed coils, and 1 inch of high-density polyfoam. Brooklyn Bedding matches this with a layer of polyfoam and a second comfort layer of gel-infused polyfoam for a cooler sleep. Finally, the cotton cover contains quilted polyfoam for extra contouring.
Note: In addition to the Brooklyn Signature, Brooklyn Bedding also offers the Brooklyn Aurora, Brooklyn Spartan, Brooklyn Bloom Hybrid, Brooklyn Bowery, and Brooklyn Bowery Hybrid models. This page compares only the Brooklyn Signature and Casper Hybrid mattresses.
Casper was founded in 2013, and in 2014 officially launched with their signature Casper Mattress. In July 2019, they released the Casper Hybrid, a 12-inch high version of their signature model with pocketed coils. The Casper Hybrid’s 7-inch support core includes both these coils and a layer of high-density base foam, a combination that pairs the support of traditional mattress coils with the feel of foam.
The foams continue with the three comfort layers, each of which is 1.5 inches high: polyfoam, memory foam, and transitional polyfoam. This creates a mattress with a medium (5.5 out of 10) firmness level, suitable for nearly all sleepers. The only sleep group for whom we rated the Casper Hybrid at less than “good” are stomach-sleepers above 230 lbs, as they may find the mattress too soft for their needs.
Note: In addition to the Casper Hybrid, Casper also offers the Casper Mattress, Wave, Wave Hybrid, and Casper Essential models. This page compares only the Brooklyn Signature and Casper Hybrid mattresses.

Off-gassing
x
Most new products emit chemical smells after being removed from packaging. Off-gassing odors are considered non-toxic, but can be quite unpleasant nonetheless.
Some off-gassing is to be expected from the Signature, but the smells ae neither stronger nor more persistent than those produced by other mattresses with thick foam layers.

Temperature Neutrality

The temperature of a mattress throughout the night is affected by how much body heat is retained. Several factors affect temperature neutrality, including material composition, layer thickness, and dissipation of heat through airflow.
Good airflow throughout the coil layer allows the Signature to sleep cool and comfortable for most.

Edge Support
x
The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.
The Signature's pocketed coil and high-density polyfoam base layers reinforce the mattress well and help reduce sinkage along the edges.

Noise
x
Certain mattresses – particularly those with coils – can be quite noisy when bearing weight. Others are nearly silent. Material composition is often the limiting factor for noise potential.
Some squeaks and creaks are to be expected, but the Signature is not particularly noisy.

Sleep Position Ratings
The Brooklyn Signature Mattress
Our testing has found the Brooklyn Signature mattress to be a good fit for all sleep types, regardless of their weight. Because of this, we have awarded it “good” or “very good” scores in all categories.
Back sleepers are particularly likely to appreciate the Brooklyn Signature, as the combination of the support core with the foam layers promotes ideal spinal alignment and comfort. Side sleepers below 230 lbs. should also enjoy the mattress, particularly at the medium firmness level, as it prevents pressure on joints and contact points.
Since it appeals to so many people, this mattress would also be an ideal choice for couples with differing sleep styles.
The Casper Hybrid Mattress
The Casper Hybrid has a medium firmness level of 5.5 out of 10, making it attractive to a wide range of sleep types and weights.
Side sleepers below 130 lbs. will find that the bed is an ideal balance of comfort and support due to its excellent contouring against their hips, waist, and shoulders. We have also ranked it as a “very good” mattress for back and stomach sleepers below 130 lbs., as well as side and back sleepers between 130 lbs. and 230 lbs.
Heavier people, particularly those who sleep on their stomach, may find the Casper Hybrid too soft to provide proper support.

Next let’s look at how the Brooklyn Signature and Casper Hybrid mattresses are made. The table below lists firmness, thickness, weight, and composition specs for both beds.
As a hybrid mattress, the Brooklyn Signature — like the Casper Hybrid — combines the pocketed coils of a traditional mattress with the contouring comfort of foam. (Brooklyn Bedding uses only foams which are CertiPUR-US®-Certified to be free of toxins and carcinogens.) In addition to 6 inches of pocketed coils, the support core also contains a 1-inch layer of high-density polyfoam. This creates a base with resilient support and a pleasant amount of “bounce”.
Two support layers, both 2 inches in height, allow for excellent motion isolation and contouring. The lower layer is polyfoam, while the top layer is gel-infused polyfoam for better heat neutrality and a more refreshing sleep. The cotton cover also includes quilted polyfoam as an extra layer of comfort for joints and pressure points.
The Brooklyn Signature is available in three firmness options (soft, medium, and firm) so the construction will vary slightly depending on your choice.
How Is the Casper Hybrid Mattress Built?
At 12 inches high, the Casper Hybrid is taller than many other hybrid mattresses, including the Brooklyn Signature. Those 12 inches are due in part to the mattress’s 7-inch support core, which is 1 inch thicker than Brooklyn Signature’s, and is made of both pocketed coils and high-density base foam.
In addition to this core, the Casper Hybrid features three 1.5-inch comfort layers. The first of these is polyfoam, while the second is memory foam for the traditional soft feel of a foam mattress. The third is a transitional polyfoam which allows for deep contouring against the body, as well as providing support through the other comfort layers. Like the Brooklyn Signature, all materials in the Casper Hybrid are CertiPUR-US®-Certified.
Due to being a medium firmness mattress with excellent contouring qualities, the Casper Hybrid is a good choice for lightweight people. This is particularly true for side-sleepers, who may otherwise develop pressure points on their hip and shoulder.

Sleeping on your mattress is the best way to know for sure that it works for you, and Brooklyn Bedding offers a 120-night sleep trial for purchases made online. (The company does provide showrooms in some states if you prefer the traditional experience.)
The company considers the first 30 nights a “break-in” period, as it is commonly thought to take that long to get used to a new mattress. During this time you cannot begin the return process. Once this has passed, you can return your mattress for a full refund (minus shipping fees) at any point in the next 90 days.
Warranty
Brooklyn Bedding offers a 10-year non-prorated warranty.
If your mattress develops a warranty-covered flaw in the ten years after your purchase, Brooklyn Bedding will repair or replace your mattress. Faults covered by the warranty include foam defects (leading to splitting or cracking), as well as indentations greater than 1 inch.
Owner damage is not covered, nor are normal changes to the foam, or indentations of less than 1 inch. The warranty is non-transferable if you sell or give away your mattress. You will void your warranty if you do not support your mattress properly according to Brooklyn Bedding’s guidelines.
