Quick Overview

Allswell launched in just early 2018, yet the brand has already made a huge impact on the mattress industry. Almost immediately, Allswell’s mattresses started selling out and thousands of eager customers were placed on a waiting list. The company credits its emphasis on affordable luxury for its ongoing success. In addition to their mattresses, Allswell sells a variety of bedding items, including blankets, throws, sheets, duvets, shams, and decorative pillows.

As Allswell continues to expand its presence in the mattress and bedding arena, it was only a matter of time before it introduced its own series of mattress toppers. Allswell has three types of toppers for shoppers to choose from: the Copper Gel, Graphite, and Cooling Touch, ranging from medium soft to medium on the firmness scale. While providing a traditional memory foam feel, all three types are significantly cool and breathable for all-foam toppers, with a special emphasis on wicking away body heat and moisture. To learn more about Allswell’s mattress toppers and their unique qualities, read on for a full product review.

Pros
  • Relatively breathable with good airflow for an all-foam topper.
  • Wicks away moisture to promote a dry sleep surface.
  • Allswell’s copper-infused toppers are naturally antimicrobial.
  • Excellent conforming for that classic memory foam “hug” feel.
Cons
  • Washing requires spot cleaning.
  • Not very supportive. Might not be great for heavier sleepers who use it with an already un-supportive mattress.

Ratings & Recommendations

Below you’ll find a series of recommendations and ratings on Allswell’s trio of mattress toppers based on our expert testing.

Copper Gel

Category Criteria Copper Gel Topper Rating What Our Testing Shows
Category

Durability

Criteria

Durability refers to how long a topper will perform well throughout prolonged, consistent use.

Rating

N/A

What Buyers Say

Since this is a new product, we don’t have any data on how long this product lasts. Based on the thickness, density and types of foam, however, we can predict this topper will last for around three or four years.

Category

Support

Criteria

Support refers to a toppers ability to provide a flat, even surface. A supportive topper will help align the spine and pelvis, and will not sink under heavier areas of the body. This isn’t always important for toppers if they used with a supportive mattress.

Rating

Good

What Buyers Say

As an all foam surface, this topper isn’t particularly supportive. That being said, the polyfoam on the bottom definitely adds to the overall support.

Category

Conforming

Criteria

Some toppers will conform closely to a sleeper’s body, helping to align the spine and preventing pressure points from developing, while other toppers offer little to no conforming. Toppers made of memory foam and/or latex tend to offer the best conforming.

Rating

Excellent

What Buyers Say

The topmost layer of memory foam on this topper is highly conforming, exhibiting that classic slow-responding memory foam feel.

Category

Temperature Neutrality

Criteria

Some toppers absorb and trap a significant amount of body heat. This may cause sleepers to feel overly warm, potentially interfering with sleep.

Rating

Good

What Buyers Say

Since this topper is all foam, it will inevitably retain a decent amount of heat and sleep hot. However, the copper infusion helps promote breathability.

Category

Motion Isolation

Criteria

Movement on a topper creates motion transfer that may be felt throughout the rest of the mattress; for couples, this can cause sleep disruptions whenever someone gets into or out of bed or shifts positions. Toppers that are  softer and more adaptive minimize motion transfer and isolate it to smaller areas of the sleep reducing the risk of nighttime disruptions for sleep partners.

Rating

Very Good

What Buyers Say

Like many foam toppers, this model isolates motion very well and is thus good for couples.

Category

Odor

Criteria

Most toppers emit harmless off-gassing particles when they are new, with foam and to a lesser extent latex toppers carrying what some find to be an unpleasant odor. Usually off-gassing smells dissipate in a few days. However, some toppers produce stronger odors that can last for much longer.

Rating

Good

What Buyers Say

We did notice a slight off-gassing smell, but it seemed relatively mild and agreeable compared to some competing models.

Category

Sex

Criteria

Toppers that are more reresponsive and bouncy tend to be better for sex. Close-conforming toppers that are not as responsive may cause couples to sink too deeply, which can negatively affect sex.

Rating

Fair

What Buyers Say

Per usual with memory foam, this topper is not at all bouncy or responsive. Consequently, some couples may find that it negatively affects sex.

Category

Noise

Criteria

The degree to which a topper makes noise when a sleeper moves around on it. Noisy toppers can cause issues for couples, as the movements of one sleeper can more easily wake the other sleeper.

Rating

Excellent

What Buyers Say

We found this topper to produce practically no noise at all while undergoing sleeper movement.

Graphite

Category Criteria Graphite Topper Rating What Our Testing Shows
Category

What Buyers Say

Support

Criteria

Support refers to a toppers ability to provide a flat, even surface. A supportive topper will help align the spine and pelvis, and will not sink under heavier areas of the body. This isn’t always important for toppers if they used with a supportive mattress.

Rating

Fair

What Buyers Say

As this topper is made of pure memory foam, it’s not very supportive at all. When placed on top of a supportive mattress, however, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Category

Conforming

Criteria

Some toppers will conform closely to a sleeper’s body, helping to align the spine and preventing pressure points from developing, while other toppers offer little to no conforming. Toppers made of memory foam and/or latex tend to offer the best conforming.

Rating

Excellent

What Buyers Say

Made or pure, graphite-infused memory foam, this topper provides excellent conforming. Sleepers will experience that classic memory foam “hug” feel with this topper.

Category

Temperature Neutrality

Criteria

Some toppers absorb and trap a significant amount of body heat. This may cause sleepers to feel overly warm, potentially interfering with sleep.

Rating

Very Good

What Buyers Say

As an all-foam topper, it will definitely retain body heat and sleep hot to an extent. Nonetheless, It’s graphite infusion greatly increases it’s breathability, making it sleep pretty cool for memory foam.

Rating

Excellent

What Buyers Say

As with many foam toppers, this model demonstrates great motion isolation, meaning you won’t wake your co-sleeper.

Category

Odor

There was a mild off-gassing smell, but it seemed fairly agreeable next to some other similar models.

Category

Sex

Criteria

Toppers that are more reresponsive and bouncy tend to be better for sex. Close-conforming toppers that are not as responsive may cause couples to sink too deeply, which can negatively affect sex.

Rating

Fair

What Buyers Say

As an all-memory foam topper, this product has virtually no bounce. This may be an issue for some couples.

Category

Noise

Criteria

The degree to which a topper makes noise when a sleeper moves around on it. Noisy toppers can cause issues for couples, as the movements of one sleeper can more easily wake the other sleeper.

Rating

Excellent

What Buyers Say

We found this topper to be near silent as we tossed and turned on top of it. Another factor making it great for couples.

This topper displays very good motion isolation, lessening the chances that you wake your co-sleeper.

We found this topper to be extremely quiet during movement.

Overall, Allswell’s mattress toppers provide excellent contouring while retaining less body heat than the average all-foam topper. Out of the three, the Cool touch is the coolest while the Graphite is the most conforming (but least supportive).

All this said, it’s important to remember that a high-quality mattress topper is no substitute for a mattress itself. If a mattress is old and sagging, a mattress topper can only offer so much comfort. Instead, it might be a better idea to look into buying a new mattress.

What Type of Sleeper is Best Suited for the Allswell Mattress Topper?

For people who need a highly conforming sleep surface in order to better align their spine and/or alleviate pain, Allswell toppers might help. Further, general fans of the memory foam ‘hug’ feel will appreciate these toppers. Allswell infused their memory foam toppers with cooling graphite and copper, making them fairly breathable for all-foam toppers. Consequently, those who love memory foam but sleep too hot might find a solid option in these. Finally, Allswell’s mattress toppers also wick away moisture, promoting a dry sleep surface and benefiting sleepers who tend to experience night sweats.

In addition to these attributes, there are a variety of overall considerations for shoppers before they move to purchase an Allswell Mattress Topper. We’ve graded the Allswell Mattress Toppers for across both sleeper weight and position to show who may or may not be suited to each product. Please note that these ratings are as objective as possible, and that everyone has varying experiences on different toppers, which are also influenced by the mattress beneath. Sleeper comfort and spinal support are the most important factors when it comes to mattresses and mattress toppers.

Mattress Topper Model Sleep Position Lightweight Sleeper Rating (Less than 130 lbs) Average Weight Sleeper Rating (130 to 230 lbs) Heavyweight Sleeper Rating (More than 230 lbs)
Allswell Copper Gel Topper Side Very Good Very Good Good

Stomach Fair Fair Poor
Allswell Graphite Mattress Topper Side Very Good Very Good Good
Back Very Good Very Good Good
Stomach Fair Fair Poor
Allswell Cool Touch Topper Side Very Good Very Good Good
Back Very Good Very Good Very Good

Because Allswell’s toppers are made of highly contouring memory foam with a medium firmness, it’s likely that side sleepers will benefit the most from them. Further, sleepers on the lighter and middleweight sides of the spectrum are more likely to enjoy this.

Allswell’s mattress toppers are designed to keep sleepers cool and comfortable. The Allswell Graphite Mattress Topper is three inches thick and consists of a solid layer of graphite gel-infused memory foam. Graphite, a popular solution for cooling down items like PCs, has recently become a mainstay as a cooling substance for mattresses and bedding.

Both the Copper Gel and Cool Touch toppers are four-inches thick. They also both feature two layers of memory foam; the top two-inches provide conforming while the bottom two-inches offers firmer body support. The Copper Gel Mattress Topper uses the unique properties of copper to draw heat away from the body. As for the Cool Touch Mattress Topper, it combines the cooling abilities of both  graphite and copper to create a sleep surface that’s especially crisp and refreshing.
