Durability Hybrid mattress lifespans are on par with the average lifespan for all mattresses: about six to seven years.PoorEarly deterioration and sagging is one of the most common complaints among Stearns & Foster mattress owners.
Motion IsolationHybrid mattresses are designed with responsive sleep surfaces, and generally do not isolate motion as much as all-foam models.GoodDue to their thick foam comfort layers, Stearns & Foster mattresses absorb and isolate motion transfer more effectively than other hybrids.
Sex Hybrids are relatively responsive and bouncy, which some couples say makes them better for sex than all-foam beds.GoodThe thick foam comfort layers of Stearns & Foster mattresses can impact sex, according to couples who own them.
ConformingHybrid mattresses generally do not conform very closely or provide much pressure relief compared to memory foam or latex models. GoodStearns & Foster mattresses conform more closely than other hybrids, but early sagging compromises support and can hinder pressure relief.
Temperature NeutralityHybrids retain less body heat than other mattress types, and usually ‘sleep cooler’ as a result.FairStearns & Foster mattresses sleep warmer than other hybrids, as is usually the case with models that have thick foam layers.
Off-gassingSome mattresses emit particles when they are unpackaged, accompanied by unpleasant ‘off-gassing’ smells that can last for days.GoodOff-gassing does not appear to be a major issue among Stearns & Foster owners, although some report temporary smells when the mattress is new.

NoiseAll-foam mattresses are typically silent, but hybrids may produce some noise due to their metallic components.Very GoodUnlike most hybrids, Stearns & Foster models produce little noise when bearing weight.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMost mattresses are relatively heavy, but some can be more unwieldy and difficult to move than others.PoorA Queen-size Stearns & Foster mattress may weigh anywhere from less than 70 pounds to more than 150, so ease of moving can vary — but the average model weighs roughly 130 pounds.

Sleep Trial and Warranty Information

Trial Period and Guarantee: Stearns & Foster mattresses are available through third-party retailers, and the company does not offer any sort of sleep trial. For this reason, customers should defer to the sleep trial and return policy of the brick-and-mortar or online retailer from which they purchase their mattress.

Warranty: Tempur-Sealy offers a 10-year limited warranty for all Stearns & Foster mattresses.

  1. Warranty coverage begins on the date of original purchase. The warranty coverage will depend on the product label issued with the mattress.
    1. Most mattresses come with the 10/10 label, and will receive nonprorated coverage for the entire duration of the warranty. This means owners will not have to pay additional charges for replacing a defective mattress. However, they will be responsible for transportation and inspection costs.
  2. Stearns & Foster mattresses are designed for use with certain types of foundational support. A queen- or king-size mattress must be supported with a bed frame that has a ‘rigid bridge bar with a supporting leg’ and at least five legs or at least five ‘equally spaced hardwood slats’. The warranty will be voided  if the mattress is used with an inadequate support system, or if the mattress is found to be in unsanitary condition.
  3. Floor models are not eligible for warranty coverage.
  4. The warranty will cover the following mattress defects:
    1. Visible indentations or sagging in the mattress surface that measure one and a half inches (1 1/2″) or deeper.
  5. The warranty will not cover the following:
    1. Indentations or sagging that do not measure one and a half inches (1 1/2″) or deeper. This is considered standard wear and tear.
    2. Repair or replacement requests that occur due to changes in the owner’s comfort preferences.
    3. Burns, cuts, tears, stains, and other types of physical damage that occur due to owner misuse, improper cleaning, and/or inadequate foundational support.
  6. Warranty coverage is exclusively extended to original owners who buy their mattress directly from Tempur-Sealy or an authorized Stearns & Foster retailer. Those who buy or acquire their mattress from the original owner or an unauthorized Stearns & Foster retailer will do so ‘as is’, and will not qualify for warranty coverage.
