    • The Latex GL mattress is designed with three layers in the comfort system: a top layer of of Talalay latex (21 ILD); a middle layer of Talalay latex (19 ILD); and a bottom layer of Talalay latex (24 ILD). The support core is constructed from soy-infused polyfoam.
    • The Natural Latex mattress is designed with two latex layers: a comfort layer of Talalay latex (19 ILD) and a support core of Talalay latex (32 ILD). The cover is a blend of polyester, organic cotton, and spandex.
    • The Active Latex Medium-Firm mattress features two layers of Dunlop latex in the comfort system and a support core made of open-cell polyfoam.
    • The Active Studio Plush Medium mattress has a comfort system with a top layer of 4 PCF memory foam and a bottom layer of 3 PCF memory foam. The support core is constructed with base polyfoam.
    • The Marina mattress has a top layer of 3 PCF gel memory foam in the comfort system, followed by an ‘Air Comfort’ polyfoam layer. The support core is constructed from polyfoam as well, with ‘Wedge’ edge support encasement.
    • The Sleep Science mattress shares a similar design with the Marina: a comfort system with a top layer of standard memory foam and a bottom layer of ‘Air Comfort’ polyfoam; and a polyfoam support core with a ‘Wedge’ edge support encasement.
    • The Black Diamond mattress is a blended model with three comfort system components: a top layer of 5 PCF charcoal bamboo memory foam; a second layer of 5 PCF memory foam; and a third layer of latex. The support core is made of polyfoam with a ‘Wedge’ edge support encasement.
    • The Carina mattress has three components in the comfort system: a top layer of 3 PCF gel memory foam; a second layer of 4 PCF memory foam; and a bottom layer of latex. The polyfoam support core is cut with one-inch (1″) grooves for increased air circulation.
    • The Active Loft mattress is designed with two layers of 4 PCF memory foam in the comfort system and a support core made of open-cell polyfoam.
    • The iFlip Sonoma mattress is a reversible memory foam model with one side rated as ‘Soft’ and the other rated as ‘Medium Firm’. The ‘Soft’ side has a comfort system with a top layer of 3 PCF memory foam (10 ILD) and a second layer of ‘Air Comfort’ polyfoam; the ‘Medium Firm’ side has a top layer of 3 PCF memory foam (13 ILD) and a second layer of ‘Air Comfort’ polyfoam. The shared support core is made of ‘Air Channel’ polyfoam cut into one-inch (1″) squares.
    • The Ara mattress has two layers of 5 PCF memory foam in the comfort system, followed by a layer of ‘Air Comfort’ polyfoam. The support core is constructed from ‘Air Channel’ polyfoam cut into one-inch (1″) squares.
    • Please note: the ESCAPE Luxury mattress is listed on the Sleep Science website, but this model is currently not available for purchase on Costco.com.

Pros:

  • Sleep Science offers a dozen different memory foam and latex mattresses with varying firmness ratings to accommodate a wide range of sleeper preferences.
  • According to our customer reports, Sleep Science mattresses offer effective motion isolation, produce little noise, and conform closely to sleeper’s bodies and alleviate a good deal of pressure.
  • Sleep Science mattresses are available at Costco, which operates a total of 727 brick-and-mortar stores located throughout the United States.
  • Costco allows members to return any item (including mattresses) at any time for a full refund, provided the item is in satisfactory condition; this negates the need for a traditional sleep trial.
  • The price-points of most Sleep Science mattresses are below-average compared to similar models when an adjustable base is not included in the total cost.

Cons:

  • Sleep Science owners cite some performance issues, including above-average off-gassing, weak edge support, minimal responsiveness for sex, and ‘sleeping hot’.
  • Most Sleep Science mattresses are available in (at most) two to three sizes that do not require customers to also purchase an adjustable bed base; in some cases, the base component more than doubles the overall cost.
  • The minimum delivery time for a Sleep Science mattress is seven to 10 business days; at most, these models require two to four weeks for delivery. By comparison, most mattress manufacturers will ship any model to a customer within five to seven business days at most.

Product and Price Range: Sleep Science mattresses are available in six standard sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. Additionally, Split King and Split California King sizes are available in some mattresses; however, these models are exclusively sold with adjustable bases (which significantly increases the price). Please note that some sizes are not available with select models. The price of a Sleep Science mattress will vary by model and size, as well as whether or not the adjustable base component is included. All Sleep Science mattresses are manufactured in China.

Sleep Trial and Warranty Information

Trial Period and Guarantee: Costco does not offer a sleep trial for any Sleep Science mattresses at this time. However, Costco will accept returns from any item purchased online or in a brick-and-mortar store in exchange for a full refund. Customers may drop off their mattress at a brick-and-mortar location; alternatively, they can coordinate their return online. Please note that Costco requires all customers to obtain annual membership before purchasing anything online or in a store; annual membership fees range from $60 to $120.

Warranty: Sleep Science offers a 20-year warranty for all current mattresses.

  1. Sleep Science does not indicate if the warranty is entirely nonprorated or divided into nonprorated and prorated periods. We have reached out to Sleep Science, and will update this section as soon as we receive this information.
  2. Sleep Science will, at their sole option, repair or replace any mattress that is deemed as defective for as long as the warranty is valid. Owners are responsible for all transportation and handling costs associated with mattress repairs or returns.
  3. Sleep Science mattresses are designed for use with certain types of foundational support. According to Sleep Science, improper support includes any ‘frame, bed rails or foundation without center support rails, and a solid, continuous surface’. Use of inadequate foundational support will void the warranty.
  4. If a defective mattress has been discontinued or is not in stock, Sleep Science reserves the right to replace it with another model of comparable quality and value.
  5. The mattress cover is protected under a separate two-year warranty.
  6. The warranty will cover the following mattress defects:
    • Visible sagging or indentations in the mattress surface measuring three-quarters of an inch (3/4″) or deeper.
    • Physical flaws in the mattress that cause the foam or latex to split or crack.
  7. The warranty will not cover the following:
    • Normal increases in mattress softness that do not affect its pressure-relieving abilities, or visible sagging or indentations in the mattress surface that do not three-quarters of an inch (3/4″) or deeper. These issues are considered normal wear and tear.
    • Burns, cuts, tears, stains, and other types of physical damage resulting from owner misuse, improper cleaning, and/or inadequate foundational support.
  8. This warranty exclusively extends to original owners who purchase their Sleep Science mattress directly from Costco or any other authorized retailer. Anyone who buys or acquires their mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized retailer will not receive warranty protection.

Sleep Science Mattress Sleep Ratings

CategoryCriteriaMemory Foam RatingLatex RatingWhat Sleep Science Users Say
Customer SatisfactionBased on data collection, this is an overall customer sentiment regarding Sleep Science mattresses.7072Memory foam mattresses from Sleep Science earned a customer rating of 70, while the company’s latex models earned a rating of 72; both are considered slightly below-average for their respective mattress type.
Durability The average mattress will perform for approximately seven years before it needs to be replaced.GoodGoodAccording to our feedback, most Sleep Science mattresses have a lifespan of six to seven years; this is on par with the average durability for all mattresses.
Motion IsolationMost memory foam and latex mattresses effectively minimize and isolate motion, which can cut down on nighttime disruptions.Very GoodVery GoodBoth the memory foam and latex models from Sleep Science isolate motion to a significant extent, and owners note fewer nighttime disruptions as a result.
Sex Bouncier, more responsive beds (such as innersprings and hybrids) tend to be more responsive — and thus, better for sex — than less responsive latex and memory foam mattress models.FairFairAs is the case with most memory foam and latex models, Sleep Science mattresses are moderately responsive and may not be as suitable for sex as other mattress types.
ConformingLatex and memory foam mattresses are designed to conform closely to the sleeper’s body and alleviate bodily pressure. Very GoodVery GoodCustomer reports indicate that Sleep Science mattresses (particularly those with high-density foams) conform quite closely and relieve a significant amount of bodily pressure.
Temperature NeutralityLatex and memory foam mattresses may retain a relatively high amount of a sleeper’s body heat, causing the mattress to ‘sleep warm’ as a result. FairFairLike many other memory foam and latex models, Sleep Science mattresses retain a fair amount of body heat and tend to sleep hot.
Off-gassingSome mattresses emit particles when they are unpackaged, accompanied by unpleasant ‘off-gassing’ smells that can last for days.PoorFairOff-gassing is one of the chief complaints regarding memory foam mattresses from Sleep Science; the company’s latex models produce less odor by comparison.
Edge SupportThe frames of innerspring mattresses are encased to support the springs and provide a suitable sleeping surface. Latex mattresses, on the other hand, typically have poor edge support, and may prematurely sink where people usually sit.FairFairDespite the presence of an edge support encasement in several models, Sleep Science owners claim that these mattresses offer little edge support and may sink at the edges prematurely; however, this is still better than the average latex or memory foam model.
NoiseInnerspring mattresses tend to be somewhat noisy due to their high levels of bounciness and responsiveness, as well as squeaky metal components; most latex mattresses produce little to no noise.ExcellentExcellentBoth the memory foam and latex models from Sleep Science are virtually silent.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMost innerspring mattresses are relatively heavy, but some can be more unwieldy than others. Latex mattresses tend to be lighter by comparison.GoodFairThe average weight of a Sleep Science mattress is less than 95 pounds, but ease of moving and maneuvering will vary by model; the company’s latex mattresses tend to be heavier than their memory foam models.
