What You Need to Know about the Serta Mattress

Mattress Type and Components:

  • Serta offers hybrid and innerspring mattresses that are currently available in two different mattress series.
    • Please note that some Serta mattresses are labeled as innersprings, even though they feature memory foam/polyfoam comfort layers and pocketed coil support cores; according to our criteria, these models would qualify as hybrid mattresses.
  • The Perfect Sleeper mattress series features 18 hybrids and innersprings. These models all vary in terms of height and individual layer components. For comfort layers, they feature a combination of standard or gel memory foam and standard or gel polyfoam. All 18 models are designed with foam-encased pocketed coil support cores. As of June 2017, the current Perfect Sleeper lineup is as follows (ordered by price-point from highest to lowest):
    • Laraine Luxury Firm (Innerspring)

  • Please note that some Serta hybrids and innersprings are not sold online and only available at a small number of mattress showrooms and retail stores. These include mattresses in the Sertapedic, iSeries Hybrid, and Bellagio at Home mattress series. We have not included these mattresses in our review due to their limited availability. Using the mattress store locator on the Serta website, customers can input their zip code and locate the nearest brick-and-mortar location where these mattresses are sold.
  • Serta offers all-foam mattresses, as well. To learn more, please visit our Serta Memory Foam Mattress Review page.

Pros:

  • Customers tout Serta mattresses for their good temperature neutrality, strong edge support, and suitability for sex.
  • Serta is considered the largest mattress manufacturer in the United States, and the company offers a wide selection of innersprings and hybrids (in different firmness ratings) to accommodate different sleeper preferences.
  • White Glove delivery — which includes in-home assembly and old mattress removal — is offered free-of-charge for all online orders.
  • Serta mattresses are available for purchase at brick-and-mortar showrooms and retail stores across the country, giving customers plenty of locations to test them out in person.

Cons:

  • Customers have criticized Serta’s innerspring and hybrid mattresses for below-average longevity and minimal motion isolation.
  • While the iComfort series includes a 120-night sleep trial, the Perfect Sleeper series is offered with a 45-night trial; this is significantly shorter than the sleep trials offered by most competing mattress sellers. Additionally, both sleep trials include a mandatory 30-night break-in period that must elapse before customers can return their mattress for a refund.
  • Purchasers who buy from Serta.com and choose to return their mattress must cover a return fee that amounts to 15% of the original product price, as well as a $200 shipping and handling charge. This is costlier than the return procedure for most competing mattress sellers. However when purchased from a mattress retailer, return policies/fees vary
  • The price-point for most mattresses in the Perfect Sleeper and iComfort series are above-average compared to other innerspring and hybrid models.

Product and Price Range: Serta hybrid and innerspring mattresses are available in a total of six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King; please note that some select models are not offered in certain sizes. Prices will vary by selected model and size; a full price comparison chart is featured in the table below. All Serta mattresses are manufactured in the United States.

Sleep Trial and Warranty Information

Trial Period and Guarantee: Serta offers a 120-night sleep trial for all iComfort mattresses and a 45-night sleep trial for all Perfect Sleeper mattresses.

  1. Both the 120-night and 45-night sleep trials have mandatory 30-night break-in periods. This means that customers must test out the mattress for at least 30 nights before they will be eligible to exchange it or return it for a refund.
  2. Customers who choose to return their mattress after 30 nights have elapsed will receive a partial refund, minus a return and disposal fee that amounts to 15% of the original product price and a $200 shipping and handling fee.
  3. Those who opt to exchange their mattress after 30 nights will be responsible for shipping charges associated with the new mattress delivery.
  4. Each customer is limited to one sleep trial.
  5. Serta will not accept damaged mattresses for return.

Warranty: Serta offers a 10-year warranty for all Perfect Sleeper and iComfort innerspring and hybrid mattresses.

  1. Serta will, at its sole option, choose to repair or replace all mattresses that are deemed defective. If a product needing replacement has been discontinued, then Serta will replace it with the most comparable current model.
  2. Warranty coverage begins on the original date of purchase.
  3. All Serta innersprings and hybrids are designed for use with an ‘appropriate frame with center support or a minimum of 5 cross slats with center support that extends to the floor’. Use of an improper foundation may lead to damage that will void warranty coverage.
  4. The warranty will cover the following product defects:
    • Visible indentations or sagging in the top surface that measure three-quarters of an inch (3/4″) in smooth-top hybrid mattresses, or one and a half inches (1 1/2″) in quilted innersprings and hybrids.
    • Wires that are ‘loose, broken, or protruding through the fabric’.
  5. The warranty will not cover the following:
    • Costs related to transportation and inspection of potentially defective mattresses.
    • Normal changes in foam softness that do not affect its pressure-relieving abilities, or visible indentations or sagging that do not measure more than three-quarters of an inch (3/4″) on smooth-top hybrids and one and a half inches (1 1/2″) for quilted innersprings and hybrids. These issues are all considered standard wear and tear.
    • Burns, cuts, tears, stains, and other types of damage that occur due to owner misuse, improper handling or cleaning, and/or inadequate foundational support.
    • Requests for repairs or replacements that occur due to poor sheet fit, incorrect bed height, and/or owner comfort preferences.
  6. Serta reserves the right to deny warranty claims for mattresses that are soiled, mold-infested, or otherwise considered unsanitary.
  7. Warranty coverage is exclusively reserved for original purchasers who buy their mattress from Serta or an authorized Serta retailer. Those who buy or acquire their Serta mattress from the original owner or an unauthorized retailer will not be eligible for warranty coverage.
