Sleep Position Ratings
T&N Mattress
The T&N Mattress is ‘Medium Firm’ and conforms to a moderate extent, but sleepers – particularly those who weigh at least 130 pounds – experience adequate pain and pressure relief in their most sensitive areas.
Most sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds say they don’t sink too much; comparatively, this weight group often complains of excessive sinking on all-foam beds. The T&N Mattress isolates motion fairly well and produces no noise when bearing weight. It also sleeps noticeably cooler than many of its all-foam competitors.
Purple Mattress
Like the T&N Mattress, the Purple Mattress is ‘Medium Firm’ and provides moderate conforming. The highest satisfaction ratings come from those who weigh at least 230 pounds, though many sleepers in the average weight group (130 to 230 pounds) say the mattress was comfortable and capable of alleviating their aches and pains.
The Purple Mattress sleeps cool for most, largely due to strong airflow through the Smart Grid layer. It isolates motion transfer well and produces no noise when bearing weight.

How Is the T&N Mattress Built?
Tuft & Needle’s T&N Mattress is constructed with two layers: a comfort layer made of 2.8 PCF polyfoam; and a support core made of 1.8 PCF high-density polyfoam. The mattress is considered ‘Medium Firm’ and offers moderate conforming without hugging the sleeper’s body too closely or sinking excessively.
The T&N Mattress sleeps fairly cool, due in part to its breathable cover made of rayon and polyester. Other benefits of the mattress include excellent motion isolation and no noise when bearing weight, which makes it suitable for couples who awaken easily due to movement or noise. The T&N Mattress weighs 72 pounds in a Queen size, making it comparable to the Leesa in terms of moving and rotating the bed.
How Is the Purple Mattress Built?
The signature ‘Smart Grid’ found in the Purple Mattress features buckling-column gel dispersed throughout an elastic polymer grid. The material conforms to the sleeper’s body and alleviates pressure points much like memory foam and latex, but it is also more durable and less susceptible to indentations. The Smart Grid also sleeps relatively cool, as well.
A high-density polyfoam base reinforces the entire bed and helps maintain an even, supportive sleep surface. The Purple Mattress is fairly heavy – weighing 110 pounds in a queen size – and will be somewhat difficult to move and rotate compared to all-foam beds.
