Leesa vs. Tuft & Needle Mattress Overview

Leesa vs. Tuft & Needle Mattress Overview

Leesa was founded in 2014. The brand’s flagship mattress, the Leesa, is a mixed-foam mattress with comfort layers of polyfoam and soft memory foam, and a support core made of high-density base foam. It is considered ‘medium’ (5) in terms of firmness.

Tuft & Needle was founded in 2012. Its flagship bed, the T&N Mattress, is an all-polyfoam model constructed with a 2.8 PCF comfort layer and a 1.8 PCF high-density support core. It also has a rayon-polyester cover. The T&N Mattress is considered ‘medium-firm’ (6.5).

The Leesa and T&N Mattress differ slightly in terms of firmness and material construction, but they also share many similarities, such as excellent motion isolation and below-average pricing. This page will discuss the unique features, advantages, and drawbacks of each mattress, as well as the individual policies and overall reputations of both brands.

Sleep Position Ratings

Leesa

The Leesa conforms to a moderate degree; it hugs the sleeper’s body and alleviates some pressure, but sleepers do not experience the same ‘body hug’ that they might with a softer foam mattress. The medium’= firmness offers a balance of cushioning and support that makes the mattress a good option for most weight groups, though sleepers weighing at least 130 pounds tend to be most comfortable. Other benefits of the Leesa, according to sleepers, include good temperature neutrality, excellent motion isolation, and no noise when bearing weight.

T&N Mattress

The T&N Mattress is medium-firm – or 6.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale – and conforms to a minimal degree, but most sleepers experience relief from aches and pains throughout their body. Sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds say the mattress does not sink excessively, which is a common complaint from this weight group about all-foam beds. The T&N Mattress may also be suitable for lighter individuals who prefer firmer surfaces. It also sleeps relatively cool compared to other all-polyfoam models, isolates motion transfer very well, and produces no noise.

Our Recommendations

Choose the Leesa if...

  • You want a bed that conforms to a degree but does not hug the body closely like softer all-foam mattresses
  • You are a hot sleeper, and tend to feel excessively warm on foam beds
  • You and/or your sleep partner frequently experience sleep disruption due to movement or noise

Choose the T&N Mattress if...

  • You want a mattress that is on the firmer side.
  • You weigh at least 130 pounds
  • You prefer beds that provide moderate conforming
  • You tend to sleep hot on all-foam mattresses

How Is the Leesa Built?

The Leesa has a mixed-foam composition. The comfort system features a top layer of polyfoam with an indentation load deflection (ILD) of 13; and a bottom layer of memory foam with an ILD of 9. This combination creates a medium (5) feel for the mattress that is suitable for all sleep positions. The Leesa offers moderate conforming.

Its support core is constructed from high-density polyfoam, a sturdy material that helps the bed maintain a flat, even surface for sleeping. The Leesa weighs 71 pounds in a Queen size, making it light and easy to move even by all-foam bed standards.

How Is the T&N Mattress Built?

Tuft & Needle’s T&N Mattress is constructed with two layers: a comfort layer made of 2.8 PCF polyfoam; and a support core made of 1.8 PCF high-density polyfoam. The mattress is considered medium-firm (6.5) and offers moderate conforming without hugging the sleeper’s body too closely or sinking excessively.

The T&N Mattress sleeps fairly cool, due in part to its breathable cover made of rayon and polyester. Other benefits of the mattress include excellent motion isolation and no noise when bearing weight, which makes it suitable for couples who awaken easily due to movement or noise. The T&N Mattress weighs 72 pounds in a Queen size, making it comparable to the Leesa in terms of moving and rotating the bed.
