Layla vs. Casper Mattress Overview
Layla vs. Casper Mattress Overview
Layla launched their mattress in 2014 and also sells bed frames, pillows, and bedding. They manufacture one mattress, called the Layla Memory Foam Mattress. It contains four mixed-foam layers including memory foam and a foam support core, all covered in a gel-infused fabric. The Layla also contains copper-infused layers. Copper has cooling properties, is antimicrobial, and helps provide support. The Layla can be flipped for two firmness options. One side of the mattress is medium-soft and the other side is firm.
Casper began selling mattresses in 2014 and has become a very popular online mattress retailer that also sells bedding, pillows, and bed frames. Their flagship mattress is known as The Casper mattress and it is made of four mixed-foam layers, including a memory foam layer and a foam support core. The Casper also comes in a hybrid model that contains pocket coils in addition to foam. Both the foam and hybrid Casper are medium-firm mattresses.
Casper sells other mattresses in addition to their flagship mattress. Casper sells the following other models:
The Essential, a three-layer memory foam mattress
The Wave, a five-layer mixed memory foam and latex mattress that also comes in an innerspring hybrid option
There are many similarities between the Layla and Casper mattresses. They are both mixed-foam mattresses in the same price range. There are also differences between the mattresses, however. Different people will have different preferences depending on their body type, sleep habits, and needs.
This guide provides a comparison of Casper vs. Layla mattresses and includes information about their construction, firmness, and other qualities that influence who will prefer which mattress. This guide also covers each company’s prices, sleep trial length, return policies, warranties, shipping information, and more.

Off-gassing

Most new products emit chemical smells after being removed from packaging. Off-gassing odors are considered non-toxic, but can be quite unpleasant nonetheless.
Layla Mattresses really shouldn't emit much odor compared to other all-foam mattresses and our testing shows this to be the case.

Pressure Relief
x

Temperature Neutrality
x
The temperature of a mattress throughout the night is affected by how much body heat is retained. Several factors affect temperature neutrality, including material composition, layer thickness, and dissipation of heat through airflow.
Given the higher quality foams used, the Layla mattress can trap heat but no more than your average memory foam bed

Edge Support
x
The degree to which the perimeter of the mattress supports body weight. In some cases, mattresses may sink when weight is applied. This sinkage, often called “roll-off”, affects how closely you might sleep to the edge of the bed.
Edge support is a common issue with memory foam mattresses, buyers should expect some sinkage around the perimeter of the bed where people tend to sit.

Mattresses that are bouncier and more responsive tend to be better for sex, as they’re easier to change positions on. In contrast, unresponsive mattresses can cause couples to have trouble switching positions.

Sleep Position Ratings
Layla Mattress Sleeper Ratings
The Layla mattress is ideal for average-weight sleepers (130-230 lbs.) who sleep on their backs or sides. It is also very good for lightweight sleepers (under 130 lbs.) who sleep on their backs. The Layla can be good for lightweight sleepers who sleep on their sides or stomach, but it is not the best choice for most heavier-weight people (over 230 lbs.).
Our testing also shows that the Layla mattress works well for people who enjoy the conforming feel of memory foam, because this soft mattress hugs the body. It’s also a good mattress for people who have sensitive pressure points that need additional cushioning.
Casper Mattress Sleeper Ratings
The Casper is a very good mattress for side and back sleepers of average and light weights (230 lbs. and below). The hybrid version of the Casper is an excellent choice for lightweight sleepers (under 130 lbs.), particularly those who sleep on their sides. The Casper can be good for heavier sleepers as well (over 230 lbs.), but some heavier sleepers will find that they want more support, especially people who sleep on their stomachs.
Like many mattresses that contain memory foam, The Casper “hugs” the body and is best for people who enjoy feeling like they are lying in rather than on top of the mattress. The Casper is also good for people who sleep with another person because of how well it isolates motion.

How is the Layla Built?
The Layla mattress is 10 inches in height and constructed with multiple foam layers in a way that makes the mattress flippable, with each side having a different firmness level. The support core is at the center of the mattress and made of 4.5 inches of polyfoam. It provides support regardless of how the mattress is flipped.
The soft side of the Layla mattress has a 3-inch layer of memory foam above a 2-inch transition foam layer. These layers make this side of the mattress a 4 or medium-soft on the 1-10 mattress firmness scale. The firmer side of the Layla mattress has a 1-inch layer of memory foam. This side of the mattress is considered firm and is rated 7 on the 1-10 mattress firmness scale.
Both sides of the Layla mattress have a gel-infused cover that helps with temperature regulation. The cover is made from a polyester material blend. This cooling element is important since memory foam can trap body heat.
How is the Casper Built?
The Casper mattress is 12 inches in height and constructed with four foam layers. The four layers from top to bottom are: open-cell foam, high-density memory foam, zoned transition foam, and durable support foam. The Casper mattress also comes in a hybrid version that has pocket coils in the support layer.
Both of The Casper mattresses are of medium firmness. The all-foam original Casper mattress is somewhat softer, rating 5 on the 1-10 mattress firmness scale. The Casper hybrid mattress is somewhat firmer, rating 5.5 on the 1-10 mattress firmness scale. Both mattresses have a polyester blend cover.
The top-most layer of foam on The Casper mattress is an open-cell breathable foam that has cooling properties. This feature is important since foam mattresses often trap body heat. Both Casper mattresses are also good at motion isolation, so movement on one part of the mattress will not transfer to other parts.

Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial for the Casper mattress.
Casper offers a 100-night sleep trial on all of their mattresses, including the Casper and Casper hybrid mattresses. The 100-night trial gives customers an opportunity to adjust to sleeping on their new Casper mattress and decide if it’s a good fit for them.
If a customer decides they do not want their Casper mattress within the sleep trial period, they may return it without having to pay any shipping costs. Casper will arrange for mattress pickup. Casper generally donates returned mattresses to charity, unless donation is prohibited in that location. Customers do not have to keep the original box or packaging.
