DreamCloud vs. Puffy – Our 2022 Mattress Comparison Guide

Written by Tuck Staff

The Bottom Line.

  • The DreamCloud and Puffy are both memory-foam mattresses with several layers of support.
  • The DreamCloud is best for those over 130 pounds looking for a
    medium-firm hybrid mattress.
  • The Puffy is best for those under 230 pounds who like the feeling of a mattress hugging the body.

DreamCloud vs. Puffy Mattress Overview

DreamCloud vs. Puffy Mattress Overview

DreamCloud began in 2018. The company’s original bed is the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress, also called the DreamCloud. The mattress has several comfort layers of gel-infused memory foam, quilted memory foam, natural latex, and standard memory foam layer. Its support core is constructed with a memory foam transitional layer, pocketed coils encased in high-density foam, and a high-density memory foam base. The DreamCloud’s cover is a Euro-top made of tufted cashmere. The mattress is 15-inches thick. It’s a medium-firm mattress, ranking a 6.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale.

Puffy began in 2016 and currently makes two mattresses. The flagship mattress is the Puffy, constructed of three layers of foam. The bottom layer provides balanced support while contouring to the body, allowing a sleeper to feel like they are sleeping ‘in’ the mattress rather than ‘on’ the mattress. The middle layer is comfort pressure relief foam. The upper layer is breathable climate-adaptive foam that keeps the bed from getting too hot or cold. Measuring 10 inches thick, it’s a medium-firm bed. On the 1-10 firmness scale, the Puffy comes in at a 5.

Please note: Puffy offers another mattress in addition to the model listed above. The Puffy Lux mattresses includes all three layers of the original Puffy mattress with an additional layer of countrouring foam for pressure-point relief and extra support.

In this guide, we’ll compare the DreamCloud flagship mattress to the original Puffy memory foam mattress. Both mattresses share similarities like layers of foam construction, but they also differ in significant areas including firmness, layer composition, and sleep trial time. This guide will compare both beds in terms of pricing, construction, and performance. We’ll also cover shipping, return, and warranty policies of both brands.

Sleep Position Ratings

DreamCloud Mattress Sleeper Ratings

The DreamCloud mattress sleeps cool for a hybrid mattress thanks to its cashmere cover, exceptional breathability through the coils, and gel-infused top layer. This makes it a great choice for hot sleepers. Based on our testing of the DreamCloud, back sleeps will find this mattress especially good for spinal alignment.

Heavier stomach sleepers may find the mattress sinks too much, bending the spine. Light-weight sleepers who enjoy a firmer mattress also reported finding the DreamCloud comfortable.

Puffy Mattress Sleeper Ratings

The Puffy mattress rates “excellent” in both motion isolation and noise, making it a great choice for couples looking for undisturbed sleep. Based on our testing, sleepers under 230 pounds found it comfortable for all sleeping positions. The Puffy mattress also rates well for temperature neutrality thanks to the top two layers constructed with breathable foam that doesn’t trap heat in the mattress.

The Puffy mattress is a conforming mattress meaning it hugs the body and gives the sleeper a feeling of sleeping in the mattress, rather than on top of the mattress.

Our Recommendations

Choose the DreamCloud if...

  • You tend to sleep hot.
  • You have chronic back, shoulder, or hip pain and are looking for spinal alignment while sleeping.
  • You prefer a “medium-firm” mattress that you don’t sink into much.
  • You enjoy sleeping on thicker than average beds.

Choose the Puffy Mattress if...

  • You weigh 230 pounds or less.
  • You are looking for a memory foam mattress that sleeps cool.
  • You like to feeling of a mattress hugging your body.
  • You are looking for a mattress that isolates movement.

How Is the Casper Built?

The Casper’s three-layer comfort system is built with top and bottom layers of polyfoam and a middle layer of memory foam. These layers provide ‘Medium’ firmness that balances body conforming and sturdy support. A high-density polyfoam base layer reinforces the bed and helps maintain an even, supportive sleep surface. It also has a soft polyester cover.

The Casper weighs 71 pounds in a Queen size, which is light even by memory foam mattress standards. This makes the bed exceptionally light and easy to lift and rotate as recommended. The bed’s all-foam construction also enables the Casper to isolate motion transfer very well; the mattress is also virtually silent when bearing weight.

How Is the DreamCloud Mattress Built?

The DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress with eight layers. The mattress has comfort layers of gel-infused memory foam, quilted memory foam, natural latex, standard memory foam, and dense memory foam. Two inches of support and cushion are added with a hand-tufted cashmere Euro-top cover. These layers make the DreamCloud a medium-firm bed that give the feeling of sleeping on, rather than in the mattress.

The support core features foam-encased pocketed micro-coils with high-density memory foam transitional and base layers. The coils are zoned to provide more support to the heaviest areas, such as the shoulders and hips.

Thanks to its breathable cashmere cover, gel-infused top layer, and coils allowing for airflow, the DreamCloud sleeps cool by hybrid standards. The foam encasement around the support core also helps prevent sagging. The DreamCloud isolates motion fairly well compared to other hybrids, and makes minimal noise. The queen size weighs 94 pounds, making the Dreamcloud fairly light for a hybrid mattress.
