Casper vs. Helix Mattress Overview
Casper vs. Helix Mattress Overview
Casper launched in 2014. The brand’s flagship bed, the Casper, is made with a triple-layer polyfoam and memory foam comfort system, as well as a high-density polyfoam base layer. The mattress is considered ‘Medium’ in terms of firmness, or a 5.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale.
Helix Sleep has been in business since 2015. The Helix Midnight, a memory foam hybrid with ‘Medium’ (5.5) firmness, is part of the brand’s current line of hybrid beds. The Helix Midnight is available in two designs.
The standard model features a dual-layer memory foam comfort system, along with a pocketed coil support core and a high-density polyfoam base layer. The Helix Midnight Luxe shares a similar construction to the standard design, but also includes an extra transitional foam layer and zoned, multi-gauge coils.
Please note: Both Casper and Helix offer other mattresses in addition to the models mentioned above.
Casper sells two other beds: the Casper Essential, a memory foam mattress; and the Casper Wave, a memory foam and latex mattress.
Helix offers five other memory foam hybrids – the Sunset, Moonlight, Dusk, Twilight, and Dawn – that are available as Standard and Luxe designs. The brand also sells two dual-firmness hybrids, the Dual Balanced and Dual Extra; and the Nightfall, a hybrid specifically designed for heavier individuals.

Mattresses that are bouncier and more responsive tend to be better for sex, as they’re easier to change positions on. In contrast, unresponsive mattresses can cause couples to have trouble switching positions.

Sleep Position Ratings
The Casper Mattress
The Casper’s ‘Medium’ firmness is optimal for sleepers in the average weight group (130 to 230 pounds), though its conforming abilities should also be suitable for lighter individuals. The Casper also isolates motion transfer very well and makes no noise when bearing weight, making the bed a great choice for couples.
Helix Midnight
Because both the standard and Luxe versions of the Helix Midnight are ‘Medium’ (5.5) in terms of firmness, the mattress is optimal for those who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds. The Luxe also has a 14″ profile that may be more suitable for heavier individuals; this demographic often reports feeling uncomfortable on lower-profile beds. Both versions of the Helix Midnight sleep fairly cool, isolate motion transfer to a noticeable extent, provide strong edge support, and produce very little noise when bearing weight.

How Is the Casper Built?
The Casper has a 12-inch profile, making it about average thickness for a mattress. Its comfort system features top and bottom polyfoam layers, along with a middle layer of memory foam. These layers provide ‘Medium’ firmness and close conforming that helps align the spine and alleviate pressure points. A high-density foam base layer reinforces the bed and helps maintain an even, supportive surface.
The Casper weighs 71 pounds in a queen size. This is light by all-foam mattress standards, making the bed fairly easy to lift and rotate as needed.
How is the Helix Midnight built?
The standard Helix Midnight is a four-layer memory foam hybrid built onto a 10-inchX profile. The comfort system features a top layer of memory foam and a bottom layer of transitional polyfoam; these layers offer ‘Medium’ firmness, which creates a balance of close conforming and strong support. The mattress also features a pocketed coil support core reinforced with a high-density polyfoam base layer, as well as a dual-layer polyester cover.
The Helix Midnight Luxe has a 14-inch profile. Its comfort system includes three layers – gel memory foam, standard memory foam, and transitional polyfoam – as well as a pillow-top cover with phase-change material. The pocketed coils in the support core are zoned, meaning higher-gauge (thinner) coils are positioned beneath the shoulders while lower-gauge (thicker) coils are positioned beneath the hips. A high-density foam base reinforces the coil layer, giving the mattress exceptional edge support. Like the standard model, the Helix Midnight Luxe is considered ‘Medium.’
