Brooklyn Bedding vs. T&N Mattress Overview

Brooklyn Bedding vs. T&N Mattress Overview

Brooklyn Bedding was founded in 2009. The Brooklyn Signature is a hybrid mattress available in three firmness levels: ‘Soft,’ ‘Medium,’ and ‘Firm.’ It is constructed with gel-infused polyfoam and standard polyfoam comfort layers, as well as a quilted foam cover for added cushioning. The mattress also has pocketed coils and a high-density polyfoam base layer for added support.

Tuft & Needle was founded in 2012. Its flagship bed, the T&N Mattress, is an all-polyfoam model constructed with a 2.8 PCF comfort layer and a 1.8 PCF high-density support core. It also has a rayon-polyester cover. The T&N Mattress is considered a medium-firm bed, ranking a 6.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale.

This comparison page exclusively looks at the Brooklyn Signature mattress and T&N flagship mattress. The Brooklyn Bedding and T&N Mattress differ slightly in terms of price and construction, but they also share many similarities, such as excellent motion isolation and conforming well to the sleeper’s body. This page will discuss the unique features, advantages, and drawbacks of each mattress, as well as the individual return policies and warranties of both brands.

Sleep Position Ratings

Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Sleeper Ratings

The Brooklyn Signature mattress comes in three levels of firmness. The softest version, ranking a 3.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale is the most conforming to sleeper’s bodies. It’s a good choice for side sleepers or those who want more pressure-point relief. The mattress also comes in a 5.5 (medium) and a 7.5 (firm). Back sleepers ranked these models the highest.

The Brooklyn Signature ranks very good in terms of motion isolation and edge support, something many all-foam mattresses lack. The hybrid mattress also ranks well in temperature neutrality, thanks to its coil layer.

T&N Mattress Sleeper Ratings

The T&N flagship mattress ranks a 6.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale, making it a medium-firm bed. It provides a moderate amount of conforming to the body, providing pressure relief for sleepers who weigh at least 130 pounds. The bed earned particularly high ratings from those in the heavyweight group (sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds). Heavyweight sleepers often experience excessive sinking and uneven support on all-foam beds.

The T&N Mattress also isolates motion transfer very well and makes no noise. It sleeps cooler than many of its all-foam competitors, as well.

Our Recommendations

Choose the Brooklyn Bedding mattress if...

  • You’re looking for a hybrid mattress that lets you choose the firmness level.
  • You sleep with a partner and one of you wakes easily from noise or motion.
  • You’re looking for a high-quality mattress at a fair price.
  • You tend to sleep hot.

Choose the T&N Mattress if...

  • You want a mattress that is on the firmer side.
  • You weigh at least 130 pounds.
  • You prefer beds that moderately conform to the body.
  • You tend to sleep hot on all-foam mattresses.

How Is the Brooklyn Bedding Built?

Brooklyn Bedding’s Signature mattress is made of four layers and a quilted polyfoam and cotton top. The upper foam layers include a gel-infused polyfoam that helps with temperature regulation. Beneath that is an additional two inches of body contouring polyfoam. Below that is one inch of high-density polyfoam and six inches of pocketed coils for support.

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature bed sleeps cool in part thanks to the gel polyfoam that promotes temperature regulation. The hybrid bed has very good edge support and is responsive enough to provide some bounce. The mattress ranks well for motion isolation and durability as well.

The queen size weighs 105 pounds, within a standard range for hybrid mattresses, but significantly heavier than Tuft and Needle’s T&N mattress.

How Is the T&N Mattress Built?

Tuft & Needle’s T&N mattress is built with two layers of foam. The top layer is a comfort layer of 2.8 PCF polyfoam infused with graphite and gel. The lower layer and a support core is made of 1.8 PCF high-density polyfoam. The mattress is considered medium-firm. It moderately conforms to the body without hugging too closely or sinking excessively. Both layers of foam are open-cell foam, meaning they won’t trap in heat.

The T&N Mattress also sleeps cool because of its breathable cover made of rayon and polyester. The mattress ranks excellent in motion isolation and makes no noise when bearing weight. Combined, these attributes make the T&N bed suitable for couples who awaken easily due to movement or noise. The queen size weighs 72 pounds, making it relatively easy to move.
