What You Need to Know about the Eight Sleep Mattress

  • Mattress Type and Components: Eight Sleep offers memory foam and hybrid mattresses. The company currently sells a total of six mattresses in two exclusive collections: Standard and Smart.
  • Three models are included in Eight’s Standard Collection:
    • The Saturn is constructed with a top layer of memory foam in the comfort system, followed by a bottom layer of transitional polyfoam. The support core is made of high-density polyfoam.
    • The Jupiter has three layers in the comfort system: a top layer of ‘Reactive’ memory foam, followed by a middle layer of ‘Contouring’ memory foam and a bottom layer of transitional polyfoam. The support core is made of high-density polyfoam.
    • The Mars is a hybrid mattress model. The comfort layer features a two-inch top layer of memory foam and a bottom layer of transitional polyfoam. The support core is constructed with a top layer of pocketed coils and a base layer of high-density polyfoam.
  • The three models in Eight Sleep’s Smart Collection are essentially the same as the three models in the Standard Collection, with one key difference: each Smart mattress is constructed with Eight Sleep’s signature Smart Tracker cover, which connects to a smart app that monitors sleep patterns, adjusts the temperature, programs alarms, and serves other functions. The three mattresses included in Eight Sleep’s Smart Collection are:
    • The Saturn+
    • The Jupiter+
    • The Mars+

  • Mattresses in Eight Sleep’s Smart Collection feature a sleep tracker can be used to monitor sleep patterns, set alarms, adjust bed temperature, and perform other functions using any Wi-Fi-compatible device. This may be helpful for people with sleep problems, or those with comfort preferences that vary from night to night.
  • Eight Sleep offers a 100-night sleep trial with no mandatory break-in period; many other mattress manufacturers require purchasers to sleep on their mattress for at least 30 nights before they will be eligible for a full or partial refund. Furthermore, Eight Sleep covers all shipping and handling costs associated with mattress returns.
  • Eight Sleep offers a 10% discount to: college students; military servicemembers, veterans, spouses, and dependents; and police, firefighters, and emergency medical technician (EMT) personnel.

  • Although six different models are available, all of them are rated as ‘Medium Firm’; this selection may be too limiting for sleepers who prefer mattresses that are more or less firm.
  • The Jupiter+ and Mars+ Smart Collection mattresses (as well as the Mars Standard Collection mattress) are priced above-average.
  • Eight Mattress was founded in 2014, so the long-term performance of the company’s mattresses has not yet been accurately assessed.

Product and Price Range: Eight Sleep Standard Collection mattresses are available in six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. Smart Collection mattresses are available in Full, Queen, King, and California King sizes. Prices vary by selected size and model; a price comparison chart is found below. All Eight Sleep mattresses are manufactured in the United States.

How Is the Mattress Shipped?: Eight Sleep mattresses are compressed, vacuum-sealed, and shipped in a box. The mattress ships in a box measuring 16W” x 46L” x 16H”, and weighs roughly 90 pounds. The technology layer ships in a separate box measuring 17 1/2″W x 22L” x 12H” with a weight of roughly 17 pounds.
Where Do They Ship?: Eight Sleep will ship mattresses anywhere in the continental United States. Deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, and international addresses are not available at this time.
Delivery Fee: Standard shipping is free to all addresses. White Glove delivery is available for $75; this includes in-home assembly and packaging waste removal. For an additional $50 (a total charge of $125), White Glove personnel will also remove the customer’s old mattress.

Delivery Policy: The delivery policy for Eight mattresses is as follows:

  1. All Eight mattresses are made to order. Most purchasers receive their mattress within seven to 10 business days. Eight Sleep couriers do not deliver on weekends.
  2. Eight Sleep will send purchasers a tracking number as soon as the mattress ships. Customers should note that the manufacturing process can take up to five business days. Those who do not receive a tracking number after five business days should contact Eight Sleep via email.
  3. Eight Sleep does not schedule deliveries or allow customers to request a delivery date.
  4. Customers who need to change the shipping address after the order has been completed should email Eight Sleep as soon as possible. Additional charges may apply if the mattress has already shipped.
  5. Customers do not need to be at home at the time of their mattress delivery, and will not be required to sign for their package. For this reason, Eight Sleep does not ship mattresses to Air/Army Post Offices (APOs), Fleet Post Offices (FPOs), or P.O. boxes.

Old Mattress Removal: Old mattress removal is available as part of Eight Sleep’s White Glove delivery. The charge for old mattress removal is $125.
Availability: Eight Sleep mattresses are exclusively available online through the Eight Sleep website. The company operates one brick-and-mortar showroom in New York City where customers may test out the mattress; Eight Sleep mattresses are not sold in any brick-and-mortar retail locations.

Sleep Trial and Warranty Information

Trial Period and Guarantee: Eight Sleep offers a 100-night sleep trial for both mattresses.

  1. There is no mandatory break-in period; customers may opt to return the mattress at any point during the sleep trial in exchange for a full product refund.
  2. Eight Sleep will cover all transportation and handling fees associated with the mattress return.
  3. To initiate the return process, customers should email Eight Sleep with ‘Return Request – [Order Number]’ in the subject line. The company will typically respond within one to two business days to coordinate a date and time for the mattress to be picked up. A refund will be issued two to three business days after the mattress has been removed.
  4. All returned mattresses are either donated to charities or housing facilities, or recycled.

Warranty: Eight Sleep offers a 10-year limited warranty for the Eight Mattress and Eight Smart Mattress.

  1. Warranty coverage begins on the date of original purchase.
  2. Eight Sleep will, at their sole discretion, repair or replace all mattresses that are deemed defective. Eight Sleep will cover costs related to repairing or replacing a defective mattress, but the owner will be responsible for all transportation, handling and inspection charges.
  3. The Smart Tracker cover is not protected under the mattress warranty; a separate one-year warranty will be issued for the tracker.
  4. Eight Sleep mattresses are designed for use on certain types of foundational support systems. Per the warranty, the mattress must be supported by a ‘firm, flat, solid-surface, non-spring foundation (whether non-moving type or adjustable type) sufficiently strong to remain flat and firm under the weight of the product and its users.’ Queen, King, and California King mattresses must be supported with frames or bases that have at least five legs. Use of an improper foundation will void the warranty.
  5. Owners who wish to replace their defective mattress with an upgrade model will be required to pay the difference between the prices of the original and the upgrade. Replacement mattresses will not extend the warranty, nor will this result in a new warranty.
  6. The warranty will cover the following product defects:
    • Visible sagging or indentation in the top foam surface that measures one inch (1″) or deeper.
    • Physical flaws in the foam that cause the material to crack or split despite proper foundational support.
    • Manufacturing flaws in the mattress cover, including cracked or broken zipper. This does not apply to the removable Smart Tracker.
  7. The warranty will not cover the following:
    • Normal increases in foam softness that do not affect the pressure-relieving qualities of the mattress, or indentations or sagging that do not measure one inch (1″) deep. These issues are considered standard wear and tear.
    • Repair or replacement requests that occur due to changes in the owner’s comfort preferences.
    • Burns, cuts, tears, stains, and other types of physical damage resulting from owner misuse, improper cleaning, or inadequate foundational support.
  8. This warranty is exclusively extended to original owners who purchase their mattress from Eight Sleep or Amazon.com. Anyone who buys or acquires their mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized seller will do so ‘as is’, and will not be entitled to warranty protection.
