What You Need to Know about the Duxiana Mattress

Mattress Type and Components:

  • Duxiana offers hybrid mattresses. A total of four mattresses are listed in the company’s current lineup. All four share the same general construction, which consists of the following three components:
    • A removable latex ‘Xupport’ pad with a cotton encasement.
    • A zippered top layer containing six ‘spring cassettes’ with metallic coils. Two of the cassettes have a soft firmness rating, two are medium, and two are firm; mattress users can customize the feel of their mattress by moving the cassettes around the layer. This feature is called the ‘Pascal’ comfort system.
    • At least one layer of continuous-wire coils.
  • The four DUX mattress models from Duxiana vary from one another in terms of thickness/number of continuous-wire coil layers, as well as price-point. They are listed below (ranked by price from highest to lowest)
    • The DUX 1001 is constructed with one layer of continuous-wire coils beneath the Pascal comfort system. Coil counts range from 1,024 (Twin Short) to 2,244 (King).
    • The DUX 3003 features two layers of continuous-wire coils beneath the Pascal layer. Coil counts range from 1,680 (Twin) to 3,420 (King).
    • The DUX 6006 also features two layers of continuous-wire coils, but these layers are thicker than those found in the DUX 3003. Coil counts range from 2,112 (Twin Long) to 4,188 (King).
    • The DUX 8008 shares the same thickness and layer dimensions as the DUX 6006, but also includes adjustable levers at the base to customize lumbar support on both sides of the mattress. Coil counts range from 2,112 (Twin Long) to 4,188 (King).

Pros:

  • Duxiana mattresses are designed to alleviate bodily pressure, and feature a reconfigurable ‘cassette’ comfort system that allows sleepers to customize the firmness settings. As a result, these models are considered better for back pain that most other innersprings.
  • Duxiana owners claim the mattresses have strong edge support and are responsive enough for sex.

Cons:

  • The price-points for Duxiana mattresses are significantly above-average; customers should expect to pay at least $4,000 for anything larger than a Twin-size model.
  • Duxiana operates fewer than 25 stores in North America and does not offer online purchasing or home delivery, which may make acquiring a mattress difficult for some U.S. shoppers.
  • Duxiana allows customers to return their mattress within 30 nights of the original purchase, but those who do so will incur a 20% return fee. Comparatively, most mattress manufacturers offer a sleep trial of at least 60 nights, and those who return their mattress within the trial period will receive a full or close-to-full refund.
  • The 20-year warranty only includes five years of nonprorated coverage; by comparison, most mattress manufacturers offer at least 10 years of nonprorated coverage as part of their warranty agreement.

Product and Price Range: Duxiana mattresses are available in eight different sizes: Twin (called a Twin Short), Twin Long, Full, Queen, King, Split King, California King, and Split California King. Prices vary by size and selected model; scroll down to find a size-by-size price comparison for the four current Duxiana models. All Duxiana mattresses are manufactured in Sweden.

Sleep Trial and Warranty Information

Trial Period and Guarantee: Duxiana does not list details about their sleep trial or return policy on the company’s website. We reached out to a customer service representative, who informed us that Duxiana mattresses may be returned within 30 days of the original purchase; those who wish to return their mattress must pay a return fee that amounts to 20% of the original product price.

Warranty: Duxiana offers a 20-year warranty for all DUX mattresses.

  1. Warranty coverage is divided into two periods:
    • The first five years of the warranty will be nonprorated, and Duxiana will repair or replace defective mattresses at no charge to the owner.
    • The last 15 years of the warranty will be prorated. Owners will be responsible for all shipping and handling costs if the mattress needs to be repaired. In the event that a mattress needs to be replaced, the owner will pay a prorated charge that will vary based on how long he or she has owned the mattress; Duxiana does not disclose the prorated fee schedule.
  2. According to the Duxiana website, the warranty will cover ‘springs that might break under normal wear and tear’. The company does not disclose any other issues that are or are not covered under the warranty.
  3. Any customer with a warranty claim should contact the Duxiana store where the mattress was originally purchased.

Duxiana Mattress Sleep Ratings

CategoryCriteriaDuxiana RatingWhat Duxiana Users Say
Customer SatisfactionBased on data collection, this is an overall customer sentiment regarding Duxiana mattresses.74Duxiana mattresses have earned an above-average rating compared to other hybrid mattresses, due in part to their innovative, sleeper-conscious construction.
Durability The average mattress will perform for approximately seven years before it needs to be replaced.GoodOur reports indicate that most Duxiana mattresses offer adequate comfort and support for about six to seven years, which is on par with the average mattress — but considering the price-point, this lifespan may still be too low for some shoppers.
Motion IsolationInnerspring and hybrid mattresses that are overly responsive will create excessive motion when someone gets up or shifts positions in bed. FairDuxiana mattresses are topped with a latex comfort layer (part of the removable top) that minimizes motion to some extent, but owners still report above average motion transfer.
Sex Bouncier, more responsive beds (such as innersprings and hybrids) tend to be more enjoyable for sex than latex or foam-based mattress models.Very GoodThe coil systems in Duxiana mattresses give them considerable responsiveness that many owners say is good for sex.
ConformingInnersprings and hybrids tend to conform less closely than foam or latex models, resulting in lower amounts of pressure relief.GoodDuxiana mattresses feature a customizable comfort system (‘The Pascal’), which allows sleepers to rearrange the spring cassettes for individual pressure relief. However, the mattresses do not conform very closely.
Temperature NeutralityInnerspring and hybrid mattresses tend to retain less body heat than other mattress types, and will ‘sleep cooler’ as a result. GoodMost Duxiana owners claim their mattresses retain minimal body heat and sleep relatively cool, although not as cool as a traditional innerspring due to the latex pad.
Off-gassingSome mattresses emit particles when they are unpackaged, accompanied by unpleasant ‘off-gassing’ smells that can last for days.GoodSome owners report small amounts of off-gassing odor from the mattress top layer that dissipates in a matter of days.
Edge SupportThe frames of innerspring and hybrid mattresses are encased to support the springs and provide a suitable sleeping surface. Very GoodDuxiana mattresses are relatively thick with reinforced continuous-wire layers, creating a mattress with robust edge support.
NoiseInnerspring and hybrid mattresses tend to be somewhat noisy due to their high levels of bounciness and responsiveness, as well as squeaky metal components.FairDuxiana mattresses can be somewhat noisy, which is to be expected of a bed with such a large number of metallic components.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMost innerspring and hybrid mattresses are relatively heavy, but some can be more unwieldy than others.FairDuxiana mattresses are heavy even by innerspring and hybrid standards, which may make moving them rather difficult.
