If you’re looking for new bedding to outfit your bed, take a look at our reviews of the best bedding options. Be sure to come back later to read new reviews.

Many people think of bedding as an aesthetic choice, but there are other factors to consider when shopping for bedding products. To help navigate the abundance of bedding options, read our reviews of some of the best bedding.

What is Bedding?

While bedding often refers to products such as sheets and pillows, this page will focus solely on blankets, comforters, and duvets. These items not only determine how your bed looks, but they also provide warmth and comfort during sleep.

How to Choose Bedding

Bedding comes in an array of materials and fills. For comforters and duvet inserts, the cover material generally has a sheet-like feel and is made of cotton and/or polyester, while the fill is typically down or down alternative. Blankets, on the other hand, are usually made out of a single material such as wool or cotton.

To decide which bedding is best for you, it’s helpful to consider which bedding will best suit your personal needs in regards to factors such as temperature control and tactile preferences.

Types of Bedding

Blankets, comforters, and duvets may seem similar to each other, but each one is constructed differently and caters to various personal preferences.

Comforters: Comforters are intended to be used as the primary covering on your bed. The outer material is often made of cotton, polyester, silk, or linen, while the fill is commonly made of down, feathers, or down alternative. The outer material is stitched in a manner that contains and evenly distributes the fill.

Duvets: Duvets are used the same way as comforters but are comprised of two components — a cover and insert. A duvet insert is a fabric shell that contains lofty fill, typically down or down alternative. A duvet cover slips over the insert and is secured in place using methods such as buttons and corner ties. The cover protects the insert from wear and tear and is generally easier to wash than duvet inserts and comforters, making duvets an appealing option from a maintenance standpoint.

Blankets: Blanket is a general term that may be used to describe many different types of coverings, including coverlets, throws, and quilts. On a bed, blankets are often used as an aesthetic touch that doubles as an extra layer for colder nights. Alternatively, blankets are a good option for use on a couch or other spaces other than your bed.
