Written by Tuck Staff

The Bottom Line.

  • The all-foam Zinus and Casper mattresses both offer excellent motion isolation.
  • The Zinus is notable for its affordable price-point and wide availability.
  • The Casper provides ideal pressure relief for lightweight sleepers.

Zinus vs Casper Mattress Overview

Zinus vs Casper Mattress Overview

Zinus got its start as an outdoor products company in 1979 and began producing mattresses and similar products in 2003. The brand’s main manufacturing site is located in Xiamen, China, and Zinus products are available at many major retailers as well as online. While the company makes a variety of mattress models, this review focuses on the Pressure Relief Green Tea Memory Foam design. Available in 6″, 8″, 10″, and 12″ versions, this all-foam mattress offers a quiet, pressure-relieving sleep surface and good motion isolation at an affordable price-point.

Casper has been producing mattresses, bedding, and bed platforms since 2013. Casper products are available online and at brick-and-mortar stores in 11 states. This review looks at the company’s flagship model, often referred to as the Casper or the Casper Original. Made with both memory foam and polyfoam, the Casper combines support and body-conforming softness, securing a medium (5) rating on the 1-10 firmness scale.

Please note: Both Zinus and Casper sell additional mattresses beyond the models described in this review.

  • Zinus offers two additional memory foam models: the Cooling Gel Memory Foam Mattress, which is available in 8″, 10″, 12″, and 14″ designs; and the Pressure Relief Cloud Memory Foam Mattress, which comes in 8″, 10″, and 12″ sizes. The company also produces an innerspring mattress and several hybrid models.
  • Casper’s flagship mattress is also available in a hybrid model. The company’s other mattresses include the Nova Hybrid and the Wave Hybrid.

While both brands offer good motion isolation and support, this page compares and contrasts each mattress’ unique strengths and drawbacks.

Sleep Position Ratings

Zinus Mattress

Ratings for the Zinus Green Tea Mattress vary based on the thickness chosen. The 6″ and 8″ models received the highest ratings from our sleepers over 230 pounds, while the 10″ and 12″ models performed better for our light and average weight sleep testers. Heavier testers, particularly stomach sleepers, found those models to be too soft and body conforming to provide adequate support.

Overall, the mattress served our light-and average-weight back sleepers the best across most mattress thickness options. These testers found that the memory foam provided good pressure point relief with the right amount of cushioning around the hips and shoulders.

Casper Mattress

The Casper best suited people under 230 pounds, all of whom gave the model positive reviews for motion isolation and pressure relief, regardless of their individual sleep styles. While heavier side sleepers found the Casper adequate, back and stomach sleepers over 230 pounds experienced some excess sagging and reduced spinal support.

All of our testers appreciated the model’s temperature neutrality and breathability, which they felt set it apart from similar foam mattresses. They also noted that the Casper offers an exceptionally quiet sleep experience, thanks to its all-foam construction.

How Is the Zinus Built?

The Zinus comes in four thicknesses: 6 inch, 8 inch, 10 inch, and 12 inch. Each thickness profile corresponds with a different respective firmness level: firm (8), firm (7), medium firm (6), and medium (5). Regardless of thickness or firmness level, the Zinus’ all-foam construction offers better body-conforming pressure relief and motion isolation than most innerspring mattresses.

While the 6-inch design consists of a 1-inch memory foam comfort layer over a 5-inch HD support core, the other designs each feature a comfort layer consisting of a 2-inch polyfoam layer under another layer of memory foam. The 8-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch versions include, respectively, 2-inch, 2.5-inch, and 3-inch memory foam layers. All designs feature a jacquard knit cover.

How Is the Casper Built?

The Casper’s cover is made of a blend of recycled polyester, polyester, upcycled cotton, rayon, and lycra. Each cover contains material made from up to 45 recycled water bottles. At 11 inches, the medium (5) Casper is relatively thick, compared to other all-foam mattresses. The model’s two comfort layers consist of one responsive 1.5-inch layer of polyfoam and a softer 2-inch layer of zoned 4 PCF memory foam. This combination of materials gives the Casper some bounce without reducing its pressure-relieving qualities.

Made from 7 inches of 1.8 PCF polyfoam, the Casper’s support layer provides additional stability. The high-density material helps reduce sagging in the parts of the mattress that bear the most weight.
