Introduce yourself and give us a brief history of your involvement in the world of mattresses/sleep products.

I’m Bryan Murphy, the Founder and President of Tomorrow Sleep. I’ve always been a believer that sleep is fundamental to health and wellness, so when Serta Simmons approached me with the opportunity to build a company that would help people wake to their full potential with an accessible, direct to consumer model, I was on board.
When we first launched Tomorrow Sleep we saw that people were increasingly becoming aware of the importance of sleep as a cornerstone of wellness and that there wasn’t a great solution to address that need in the direct-to-consumer space. By building Tomorrow on the principles of a well-balanced, healthy life we’ve begun to fill that gap by creating the highest-value sleep products and what is now the highest customer-rated hybrid mattress on the internet.

You launched in June of last year into a very crowded space but as a subsidiary of Serta Simmons Bedding you bring a very unique offering and perspective to the table. Tell us what sets you apart from the rest of the B2C mattress sellers in the market today.

We’re the first sleep company to develop an integrated sleep system with over 100 years of sleep expertise. Because we’re backed by the largest mattress manufacturer in North America, we’re able to create innovative products and sell them at an incredible value.
We’re also a true direct-to-consumer company. As the researchers, developers and manufacturers of our own products, we can offer the best in value, quality, and innovation. With that, we’ve created the number one rated hybrid bed, along with a total sleep system. There’s nothing else like it on the market.

What does the R&D and the product development process at Tomorrow Sleep look like?

We have a team of Serta Simmons engineers and sleep scientists in our Product Development center dedicated to developing the most innovative sleep technologies. While I can’t get into the specifics, it’s really impressive work. The key to making this work is we directly interact with customers on a daily basis. We use that feedback to improve our products in near real time.

What’s the most important issue facing consumers and the mattress industry as a whole that isn’t being discussed but should be?

While I think that awareness is improving, most people still underestimate the amount and quality of sleep that they need to function at full potential. We still have a culture of sleep sacrifice that is harmful to our health and well being. We’re really working hard to not only educate folks on the importance of getting enough sleep, but to make it a badge of honor to say they got the sleep their bodies needed. Our Sleep tracker is a great example of how we’re leveraging Sleep technology to help people improve their sleep. I think as awareness builds, people will begin to realize that they can improve the quality of their sleep and health by upgrading to newer products. I mean you wouldn’t use a cellphone or computer for 15 years would you?

What is the most common customer complaint you hear about mattresses and the shopping experience from Tomorrow Sleep customers and how have you addressed it with your offerings?

We hear from customers that the volume of choices and industry jargon makes it difficult to select a mattress. It’s hard to understand what they’re getting for their money.

At Tomorrow Sleep, we try to make the process simple by engineering two great mattresses, a Hybrid and a Memory Foam, explaining the key benefits of the mattresses in clear language, and being very upfront about our prices, our delivery promise, and our hassle-free trial. At the end of the day, we want the customers to know exactly what they’re getting so they can be confident that they’re making the right decision.

Looking ahead at 2018 and beyond, are there any new products should our readers keep an eye out for from Tomorrow Sleep?

Keep an eye on our website! Our sleep innovators are hard at work researching and developing new products for 2018 with the hopes that we can deliver sleep solutions at price points accessible to every consumer.

If you had one piece of advice for mattress/bedding shoppers, what would it be and why?

You spend 1/3 of your life in bed, don’t skimp.

What are the biggest trends you see in the mattress space and what predictions do you have for the next 12-18 months?

The online space will continue to go mainstream as consumers realize the convenience, quality and value of buying online. There will be a shake out in the space and companies that provide really great products and exceptional service will benefit.
