How Is the Saatva Latex Hybrid Constructed?

The Saatva Latex Hybrid’s cover is composed of 100 percent organic cotton, which gives the fabric an exceptionally soft and breathable feel. The cotton has earned certification from the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), which is one of the world’s leading authorities on organic bedding materials. The cover cannot be removed for washing, so spot cleaning is recommended if stains occur.
The mattress also contains a thin layer of GOTS-certified organic wool directly beneath the surface. This layer serves as a fire barrier for the mattress, and the wool is breathable enough to help regulate surface temperatures.
Comfort Layers
The Saatva Latex Hybrid includes a 3-inch comfort layer of Talalay latex. This material conforms to the body like foam but will not sink as much, creating a more even plane for the sleeper’s body. Latex is also naturally responsive. Owners will notice some bounciness on the surface when they move in bed or get on and off the mattress. Talalay tends to be lighter and springier than Dunlop latex, the other type of latex commonly used for mattress layers.
The latex is ventilated with small holes to promote airflow near the surface of the mattress, which in turn helps sleepers remain cool throughout the night.
Support Layers
Like other hybrids, the Saatva Latex Hybrid also features a pocketed coil support core. The layer is divided into different zones based on coil gauge, or thickness. Thicker 13.75-gauge coils along the perimeter of the mattress prevent deep sinkage when owners sleep near the edges or get in and out of bed. The interior contains thinner 14.5-gauge coils that cradle the body and feel more comfortable.
A thin “Eco Loft” support pad rests below the coils. This final layer provides added reinforcement to the support core.
Mattress Height
The Saatva Latex Hybrid measures 13 inches thick, making it a high-profile mattress. The above-average height, coupled with the absence of a transitional layer, ensures plenty of space for a thick comfort layer and a robust coil system. As a result, the mattress offers a medium firm feel with a balance of contouring and support.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is considered a medium firm mattress. The latex comfort layer contours to a moderate yet even extent in order to alleviate pressure without sinking too deeply. While some lightweight individuals may find the mattress too stiff, most sleepers who weigh 130 pounds or more should feel reasonably comfortable.
The latex is also fairly responsive, so sleepers will notice some bounciness on the surface when they change positions or get in and out of bed. The coils contribute to this springiness, as well. Many liken the feel of the Saatva Latex Hybrid to sleeping “on” – rather than “in” – the mattress.
Ratings Breakdown
Performance Ratings
Now, let’s take a closer look at our performance ratings for the Saatva Latex Hybrid. These ratings are based on experiences and feedback from verified owners of this mattress, as well as product research and analysis by our testing crew.
Durability
The Saatva Latex Hybrid debuted in the summer of 2021. Since this model is so new, we have not had the opportunity to evaluate it against the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Our durability rating for the mattress is based on other factors, such as its quality of construction and Saatva’s overall reputation.
We expect the Saatva Latex Hybrid to perform for at least eight years before a replacement is needed. This estimated lifespan is much longer than average for all mattress types, but typical of latex hybrids. Latex is a naturally durable and resilient material that won’t soften and lose shape as quickly as foam, so deep sagging and impressions should not be an issue for most of this model’s lifespan. The sturdy coils also provide great overall stability to minimize sinkage over time.
That said, the mattress will eventually begin to lose support and sink in places. Owners can extend their bed’s lifespan a bit by rotating it head to foot every three to six months. The Saatva Latex Hybrid is fairly heavy, so we recommend rotating with at least one partner.
Motion Isolation
Two of our testers evaluated the Saatva Latex Hybrid by lying next to each other on the mattress. One tester moved around on their side of the bed while the other felt for this motion transferring across the surface. During these tests, the Saatva Latex Hybrid demonstrated good – but not great – motion isolation. The latex absorbs some movement, but both testers still noticed a bit of transfer.
These findings are consistent with our tests for other latex hybrids. Generally, hybrid mattresses are bouncier on the surface than those with foam or latex support cores. The latex comfort layer is also responsive, adding to the bed’s springy feel. We don’t anticipate major sleep disturbances with this mattress, but those who are hyper-sensitive to movement in bed may want to choose a softer, less responsive model instead.
Off-Gassing
The testing crew noticed some initial, rubber-like odor after unboxing the Saatva Latex Hybrid. However, these smells had almost completely dissipated when they checked on the mattress a few days later. Latex does not emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs), the tiny particles that are responsible for the distinct chemical smell of polyfoam and memory foam. The bed’s coil layer also promotes steady airflow to flush out bothersome smells rather quickly.
We don’t foresee any odor-related issues with the Saatva Latex Hybrid, but owners who notice lingering smells may want to place their mattress in a well-ventilated room for an extra day or two.
Pressure Relief
Our testers evaluated the Saatva Latex Hybrid by taking turns lying on the mattress with pressure-mapping sensors that track buildup in the shoulders, lower back, hips, and other sensitive areas. They also changed sleep positions to see if pressure increased or decreased on their sides, backs, or stomachs.
As a medium firm latex hybrid, this model alleviates pressure very well for some sleepers based on their body type and normal position, and less so for others. The mattress feels quite supportive and contours to a minimal extent, so people who weigh at least 130 pounds – back and stomach sleepers in particular – shouldn’t experience added pressure from sagging or sinking. Lightweight sleepers, on the other hand, may find the mattress does not conform closely enough to reduce pressure. This is especially true for side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds.
Temperature Neutrality
The Saatva Latex Hybrid sleeps exceptionally cool thanks to its various material components. The ventilated latex comfort layer allows air to circulate near the top of the mattress to keep sleepers cool while the breathable organic cotton cover and wool fire barrier also regulate temperatures on the surface. The coil system is also integral because it promotes steady airflow throughout the interior, which helps the mattress maintain a comfortable temperature.
Another factor to consider is the bed’s medium firm feel. Most sleepers won’t sink too deeply into the mattress, and will feel more surface airflow as a result. In contrast, softer mattresses that allow more sinkage tend to trap body heat as the layers contour to the sleeper’s body.
Edge Support
To evaluate the Saatva Latex Hybrid for edge support, our testers sat along the perimeter of the mattress as one might do when getting in and out of bed. They also took turns lying near the edges to check for feelings of roll-off.
All of our testers – including those in the heavyweight group – felt very little sinkage along the Saatva Latex Hybrid’s edges. This can be attributed to its zoned coil system with thicker coils positioned around the perimeter, which withstand compression very well and provide decent push-back. Everyone felt stable sleeping near the edges of the mattress, as well.
Noise
The Saatva Latex Hybrid contains pocketed coils in its support core, which are generally quieter than other coil types. However, owners may notice more squeaks and creaks as the mattress nears the end of its lifespan. This is a common issue with older hybrid models. While we don’t expect most sleepers to experience noise-related disruptions, those who are particularly sensitive to noise may want to choose an all-foam or all-latex mattress instead to avoid this potential issue.
Sex
Most couples prefer responsive and supportive mattresses for sex. The Saatva Latex Hybrid certainly meets this criteria. The latex and coils work together to create a bouncy surface that sinks very little, allowing couples to move across the mattress and change positions easily. The latex also conforms enough to provide good traction when they wish to maintain a single position. Thanks to the bed’s zoned perimeter support, couples can also use the entire mattress for sex without worrying about slipping off the edges.
One thing to note is that the coils will become louder over time, making this mattress less discreet for sex if the owner’s bedroom has thin walls or someone is sleeping in the next room. However, this is a minor quibble; most couples will consider the mattress ideal for sex.
Sleeper Ratings
The ideal firmness and thickness for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, our team evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.
After testing the Saatva Latex Hybrid, our lightweight testers were somewhat mixed about the mattress. Side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds found it too stiff. They did not feel enough cushioning around the shoulders and hips, which is usually needed to ensure even spinal alignment and reduce pressure. However, they noted the mattress was quite supportive.
Our lightweight back sleepers awarded the mattress an excellent rating. Back sleepers typically need firmer, more supportive beds than side sleepers. The Saatva Latex Hybrid delivers plenty of reinforcement without feeling excessively firm, so back sleepers can feel less pressure without sinking too much. Stomach sleepers also enjoyed this mattress very much, but for some in this weight group, the surface felt a bit too firm.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.
The best ratings for this mattress came from our average weight sleep testers. Side sleepers weighing 130 to 230 pounds noted a good balance of cushioning and support, so they felt ample padding beneath the shoulders and hips without sinking in these areas. The result: even alignment and less pressure throughout the body.
Ratings were even higher from our back and stomach sleepers in this weight group. Thanks to the bed’s medium firm feel, these average weight sleepers felt enough contouring to alleviate pressure while remaining on an even plane and not sagging too much. Comparatively, softer mattresses that sink more tend to cause neck, shoulder, and hip pain for average weight back and stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.
Like their lighter counterparts, our heavyweight sleepers were divided about the Saatva Latex Hybrid. Side sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds awarded the mattress a very good rating. People who use this position typically prefer softer beds, and the medium firm feel delivered enough cushioning to align the spine and alleviate pressure.
For the back and stomach sleepers in this weight group, the mattress offers reasonable reinforcement but it also sinks in places – particularly the chest, stomach, and waist. This lack of support can lead to added discomfort and pressure points. That said, they still felt stable sleeping close to the edges and did not experience feelings of roll-off, nor did they struggle getting on and off the mattress due to sagging along the perimeter.

How Does the Saatva Latex Hybrid Compare to Other Beds?
When searching for a new mattress, we encourage shoppers to compare different brands and models in order to find the best option for them. In this next section, we’ll see how the Saatva Latex Hybrid stands up to other Saatva models and some similarly constructed hybrids from competing brands.
Saatva Latex Hybrid vs. Saatva Classic
The flagship Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress constructed with a cushioning Euro-top and comfort layers of polyfoam and memory foam. Thanks to the added padding, the mattress offers more contouring and pressure relief than the average innerspring. The Saatva Classic also contains a transitional layer of pocketed minicoils over a support core of steel bonnell coils. This coil-on-coil design creates a very responsive feel that is comparable to the Saatva Latex Hybrid’s.
These two models have earned comparable ratings across most performance categories. They both sleep cool, feel sturdy around the edges, and offer enough responsiveness for sex, but they also isolate motion to a minimal extent and can be somewhat noisy. A key advantage of the Saatva Classic is customization. Customers can choose from three feels for this mattress – medium soft (4), medium firm (6), or firm (7.5) – as well as a 11.5-inch or 14.5-inch profile. The Saatva Latex Hybrid is only available with a medium firm (6) feel and a 13-inch profile, so this model may be more limiting for shoppers.
The Saatva Classic costs a bit less than the Latex Hybrid, so this may also affect buying decisions. If budget is not a major factor, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is more durable and also sleeps a bit cooler, but the Saatva Classic will be more suitable for anyone whose firmness preferences fall outside medium firm.

Saatva Latex Hybrid vs. Saatva HD
The Saatva HD is a hybrid model geared toward heavier individuals due to its strong support system. The mattress is constructed with comfort layers of zoned latex and high-density memory foam, along with sturdy, low-gauge offset coils buffered with high-density polyfoam. Standing 15.5 inches thick, the Saatva HD is taller than most competing hybrids on the market.
Since it contains a top layer of Talalay latex, the Saatva HD’s surface feels fairly similar to the Latex Hybrid’s. Both beds also perform quite well in the temperature neutrality, edge support, sex, and durability categories. The key difference here is firmness level. The Saatva Latex Hybrid’s medium firm feel offers a good balance of contouring and reinforcement, making it suitable for many people who weigh up to 230 pounds. The Saatva HD offers excellent support for sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds – but most lighter folks will find the mattress too firm.
The Latex Hybrid costs considerably less than the Saatva HD, but neither mattress is especially cheap. We recommend the Saatva HD to anyone who weighs more than 230 pounds and wants an exceptionally firm and supportive feel from their mattress. Saatva Latex Hybrid vs. Zenhaven
The Zenhaven by Saatva is an all-latex mattress with a reversible design. One side of the bed has a medium soft (4) feel, and the other side is firm (7). To change the feel of the Zenhaven, simply flip it over and lie down on the opposite surface. The bed’s shared support core is made of denser latex to ensure good overall reinforcement.
Since the Zenhaven does not contain coils, its feel is noticeably different from the Saatva Latex Hybrid’s. The Zenhaven delivers more cushioning and contouring, and while the comfort layers are fairly responsive, sleepers won’t feel the same surface-level bounciness. Motion isolation is better for the Zenhaven and the mattress is virtually silent, but its edges tend to sink more and sleeping hot may be an issue without coils to promote internal airflow.
The Zenhaven – a fairly expensive all-latex bed – costs more than the Saatva Latex Hybrid, so pricing may be an issue for some buyers. Apart from budgetary concerns, shoppers should decide how much conforming and responsiveness they prefer before choosing one of these mattresses over the other.

Saatva Latex Hybrid vs. Avocado Green
The Avocado Green features a design that is comparable to the Saatva Latex Hybrid’s. Components for the standard mattress include a top wool batting layer, comfort and transitional layers of natural Dunlop latex over an 8-inch support core of pocketed coils, and an organic cotton cover. This design offers a firm (7) feel. Customers can also select a pillow-top for their mattress that adds an additional latex layer and softens the feel to medium firm (6.5).
Since the Saatva Latex Hybrid and Avocado Green designs are so similar, these mattresses excel and struggle in the same performance areas. Durability, temperature neutrality, and edge support are among the highlights, while minimal motion isolation and noise are considered drawbacks. Another difference is composition. Since the Avocado Green contains Dunlop latex – which is much denser than Talalay – sleepers may not experience as much pressure relief as they might on the Saatva Latex Hybrid.
Price-points for the Saatva Latex Hybrid and Avocado Green with pillow-top are comparable in a queen size, while the standard Avocado Green costs a bit less. Both brands offer different perks for shoppers, as well. Saatva Latex Hybrid vs. Awara Mattress
The Awara Mattress is constructed with a Dunlop latex comfort layer and zoned pocketed coils. While this model and the Saatva Latex Hybrid share the same 13-inch profile and medium firm (6) feel, the Awara Mattress has a thicker comfort layer and support core, so sleepers should expect even more responsiveness and reinforcement from this mattress.
As with the Avocado Green, the most noticeable difference between the Awara Mattress and Saatva Latex Hybrid concerns the comfort layer composition. The dense Dunlop latex of the Awara Mattress provides great support and conforms very little, making the mattress very well-suited to heavier individuals. The Saatva Latex Hybrid, on the other hand, features light and bouncy Talalay latex that many lightweight sleepers will find more comfortable. Saatva Latex Hybrid vs. Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid
The Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid and Saatva Latex Hybrid are very similar. Both mattresses feature 3-inch comfort layers of Talalay latex, 8-inch pocketed coil systems, and covers that include organic cotton. However, there are some notable differences between these two beds.
For one, the Bloom Hybrid is available in three firmness levels: soft (3.5), medium (6), or firm (7.5). The medium firm feel is comparable to the Saatva Latex Hybrid’s, but the other two options will be better suited to people who would rather sleep on a softer or firmer mattress. The Bloom Hybrid’s latex layer is also a bit less dense than the Saatva Latex Hybrid’s, allowing the former to absorb motion and eliminate transfer better than the latter – though both models perform better than average in this category.

Where Can I Buy the Saatva Latex Hybrid?
The Saatva Latex Hybrid may be purchased on Saatva’s website, but it is not sold through any online retailers or marketplaces, including Amazon.com. Saatva operates one brick-and-mortar showroom in New York City where customers can test out the bed and buy the mattress.

Where Do They Ship?
Saatva ships mattresses exclusively within the contiguous U.S., though the company offers to assist customers in Alaska and Hawaii by coordinating the delivery with local couriers.

All customers in the contiguous U.S. qualify for White Glove delivery, which includes scheduled date and time window, in-home assembly, and old mattress removal. Standard ground shipping is not available with any orders.

Full Delivery Policy
The delivery policy for Saatva mattresses is as follows:
- Saatva couriers will contact customers to schedule the delivery once the mattress order is complete. In most cases, the couriers will offer a four-hour window for deliveries.
- Prior to the delivery date, Saatva will not charge a cancellation fee if customers need to reschedule or halt their delivery.
- If the mattress is damaged in transit or during delivery, Saatva will either deliver a new mattress at the earliest possible date or allow customers to keep the damaged mattress until an exchange is available.
- If the customer is running more than 20 minutes late, couriers will make arrangements to deliver the mattress at another date at no extra cost. Customers can also cancel the order on the delivery date for a $99 fee.

Trial Period and Warranty Details
Trial Period: Saatva offers a 365-night sleep trial for the Saatva Latex Hybrid.
- This sleep trial does not require a break-in period of any kind. Customers may initiate a return or exchange at any point of the trial period.
- If a customer wishes to return the mattress, Saatva will send couriers to pick up the mattress and transport it for donation or recycling. All returns will incur a $99 fee that is deducted from the customer’s refund.
- Exchanges are also available during the trial period for a $99 fee.
Warranty: Saatva offers a lifetime warranty for the Saatva Latex Hybrid.
- This warranty carries two coverage options. For standard coverage, the warranty is completely non-prorated. During the first two years of ownership, Saatva will repair or replace any defective mattress at no extra charge to the owner. Beginning in the third year, Saatva will perform the same service for a flat transportation fee of $149.
- Owners can also opt for the Fairness Replacement Option after owning the mattress for two years. Under this coverage, owners pay a prorated charge to replace their mattress based on its original sticker price.
- The warranty covers sagging and body impressions in the mattress surface that measure 1 inch or deeper. Other issues, such as normal wear and tear and damage from misuse or improper support, are not considered defects and will not warrant repairs or replacements.
- This warranty is non-transferable and is only available to original purchasers who buy their mattress from Saatva or an authorized retailer. Those who buy or obtain the mattress from the original owner or a non-authorized retailer will not receive warranty coverage.
