Nectar vs. Lull – Our 2022 Mattress Comparison Guide

Written by Tuck Staff

The Bottom Line.

  • Both mattresses have a medium firmness level and are appropriate to many sleep types and weights.
  • The Lull features a polyfoam-latex comfort layer.
  • The Nectar has luxury features (such as a quilted cover and gel memory foam comfort layer) at an affordable price.

Nectar vs. Lull Mattress Overview

Nectar vs. Lull Mattress Overview

Nectar Sleep launched its flagship Nectar Mattress in 2016. This well-reviewed mattress is eleven inches thick and has a highly durable high-density polyfoam support core to offer sleepers a medium firm (or 6 out of 10) feel. This also provides good or very good support to all types of sleeper except lightweight stomach-sleepers, although back-sleepers were the biggest fans of this mattress.

A gel memory foam comfort layer and polyfoam transitional layer provide additional support, comfort, and motion isolation while still allowing for a cooler sleep than many other memory foam mattresses.

Lull was founded in 2014 and has one mattress for sale, its flagship Lull Mattress. Priced below many of its competitors, this ten-inch-thick mattress has a medium firm feel (6.5 out of 10) and is appropriate for all sleep types except lightweight stomach-sleepers.

It has a mixed-foam construction: a high-density polyfoam support core, a transitional polyfoam-latex layer, and a topper of gel-infused memory foam. This allows for better-than-average motion isolation, as well as very good contouring to the body without feeling as though you are sinking into your bed. Like most foam-based mattresses, it is also virtually noiseless.

The Nectar Mattress and Lull Mattress share many similarities, including their firmness rating, their suitability for a wide range of sleep types, and their above-average motion isolation. However, they also differ in a number of important ways — such as construction and purchase experience — which we will explore in more detail below.

The Lull Mattress is Good for...

Sleep Position Ratings

The Nectar Mattress

With its medium-firm feel, the Nectar Mattress is appropriate for many sleep styles.

The sleepers who enjoyed the Nectar Mattress best were side and back sleepers, though some stomach sleepers still found the mattress to be a good choice. Sleepers who like extra-soft or extra-firm support are likely to prefer other models, regardless of their sleep style.

The Lull Mattress

This mattress is a solid choice for most varieties of sleeper.

Back sleepers across all weight ranges rated this as a very good option, with good contouring and support to reduce back and neck pain. Other types of sleepers also enjoyed the mattress, regardless of weight, making the Lull Mattress appropriate for couples with different sleep styles. The one outlier was lightweight stomach sleepers, who may prefer a firmer choice.

While the Lull Mattress does sleep slightly cooler than some foam mattresses, those who sleep very warm may prefer a non-foam mattress option.

How Is the Nectar Mattress Built?

The Nectar Mattress is a memory foam mattress made with high-quality materials, featuring layers of CertiPUR-US®-Certified medical-grade memory foam and polyfoam. It is built on a 7-inch  polyfoam support core to achieve a solid medium firm feel.

The mattress also features a 3-inch comfort layer of gel memory foam and a 2-inch polyfoam transitional layer. These materials provide  close contouring and pressure relief, and also help the mattress isolate motion well.

Overall, the Nectar Mattress is significantly cooler than other memory foam choices due to the gel memory foam layer. However, any memory foam mattress will sleep warmer than options with no contouring. In addition to its very good contouring, the Nectar also offers above-average durability (we estimate its lifespan at 6-7 years) and motion isolation.

How Is the Lull Mattress Built?

The Lull Mattress uses a mixed-foam construction which offers good support while still providing comfort and pain-easing contouring. Lull only uses CertiPUR-US®-Certified materials, so you can sleep safe knowing that your mattress is non-toxic and non-carcinogenic.

The mattress itself has three layers, starting with a 7 inch polyurethane foam support core to achieve its medium firmness rating and reduce excessive sinking into the mattress. The two comfort layers include a 1.5 inch polyfoam-latex transition layer to provide motion isolation, as well as a 1.5 inch gel-infused top layer to ease pressure on joints and help reduce heat from the contouring.

Gel foam provides a cooler sleep than other kinds of memory foam, but very warm sleepers may still find the Lull’s contouring to be too warm. However, that same contouring is very appealing to sleepers with joint, back, or neck pain, particularly those with pressure-point pain.

Nectar Sleep Trial, Warranty, and Delivery

  • Shipping Free shipping within contiguous U.S.

  • Warranty Lifetime

  • Trial Period Details

Nectar offers a 365-night sleep trial for the Nectar Mattress.

The downside of purchasing your mattress online is that you can’t test it in advance. However, Nectar’s generous 365-night sleep trial allows you to purchase with confidence. In practice this works out to a 395-night trial, as Nectar only begins the trial after allowing a mandatory 30 days post-delivery for you to get used to your new mattress.

If you choose not to keep your mattress, all costs are refunded except any white glove delivery or Hawaii/Alaska delivery fees. Instead of requiring you to return the mattress, as it cannot be folded or compressed once delivered, Nectar will work with you to either dispose of or donate your mattress locally.

  • Warranty

    Nectar offers a lifetime warranty.

Nectar offers a lifetime warranty on all purchases. For the first ten years your mattress will be replaced for free, but a $100 shipping fee will be applied (except in cases of a defective product) for replacements after ten years. Unlike some less-expensive memory foam options, Nectar mattresses are not expected to develop deep and lasting impressions.

If your mattress develops any impressions deeper than 1.5 inches, the company will replace your mattress at no cost. The warranty does not cover ordinary wear-and-tear, owner misuse, cases of improper mattress support, or normal memory foam softening over time. You cannot transfer the warranty to a new owner.

    Full Shipping Details

Once payment is received, the mattress is shipped within 1-2 days and usually arrives 3-5 days after shipment. Choosing the white glove delivery option can sometimes delay arrival depending on scheduling, but is a good option for anyone with mobility issues or who needs to dispose of a previous mattress. The packed mattress weighs between 45 lbs. (Twin) to 105 lbs. (Cal. King), so take this into account when deciding for or against WGD.

    Old Mattress Removal?

The white glove delivery service will remove your previous mattress for an additional $45 fee. Extra recycling fees apply in California, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
