Nectar vs. DreamCloud – Our 2022 Mattress Comparison Guide

Written by Tuck Staff

The Bottom Line.

  • The DreamCloud is an affordable luxury hybrid mattress featuring a pocketed coil support core.
  • The Nectar offers excellent motion isolation and pressure relief.
  • Both mattresses will appeal to a wide variety of sleepers, particularly those of average weight.

Nectar vs. DreamCloud Mattress Overview

Nectar vs. DreamCloud Mattress Overview

Founded in 2016, Nectar Sleep is best known for its flagship Nectar Mattress.

Although there are many medium firm (6 out of 10) memory foam mattresses on the market, the Nectar Mattress offers impressive luxury details at a lower price-point than its direct competitors. Warm sleepers appreciate the cooling quilted gel foam, couples enjoy very good motion isolation, and sleepers of nearly all sleep styles and weights found that the polyfoam support core and memory foam comfort layer made for a good night’s rest.

Nectar Sleep is also the parents company behind DreamCloud, a mattress brand focused on hybrid models. The DreamCloud Mattress – the brand’s newest model – is a high-profile hybrid constructed with layers of gel memory foam and transitional polyfoam over a support core of pocketed coils. Another standout feature is the cover, which is made from a breathable cashmere blend and quilted with soft foam for added plushness on the surface. The DreamCloud is considered medium firm (6.5).

Despite being owned by the same parent company, the Nectar Mattress and the DreamCloud Mattress have significant differences. Before you make a purchase, make sure you understand the pros and cons of each choice, as well as which mattress is best suited to your sleep style.

Sleep Position Ratings

The Nectar Mattress

The Nectar Mattress comes in at 6 out of 10 firmness rating, falling within a medium firmness sweet-spot which makes it appealing to many types of sleeper. Back sleepers who are below 130lbs or above 230lbs will be happiest with the mattress, as it is rated “very good” in these categories, but nearly all other sleepers (regardless of weight class) will find it offers a good night’s sleep.

Stomach sleepers under 130lbs are the exception, as the mattress is only rated “fair” in this category. If you are over 230lbs but enjoy the feel of memory foam, you’ll be glad to hear that the Nectar is one of the most supportive memory foam mattresses on the market for your weight group. In addition, the Nectar also sleeps slightly cooler than some other memory foam models, though very warm sleepers may still find it too hot.

The DreamCloud Mattress

As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud naturally has less contouring and sink than pure memory foam options. However, its 6.5 out of 10 firmness rating means that you’ll have the feeling of “floating” on the mattress, rather than laying on a hard surface. The pocketed support core and memory foam layers combine to offer outstanding spinal support, an important consideration for sleepers with back, hip, and shoulder pain.

Back-sleepers in particular will be enthusiastic about this mattress, no matter their weight category. Side and stomach sleepers also enjoy the DreamCloud, but there are some exceptions: side-sleepers below 130lbs may find it firm enough to constrict their shoulder muscles, while stomach-sleepers above 230lbs might notice back pain from a lack of midriff support.

Our Recommendations

Choose the Nectar if...

  • You are a back sleeper below 130lbs or above 230lbs
  • You enjoy memory foam mattresses with good contouring
  • You are part of a couple with mixed sleep preferences
  • You want a memory foam mattress which sleeps cooler than other models

Choose the DreamCloud Mattress if...

  • You sleep on your back
  • You suffer from back, shoulder, or hip pain which requires spinal support
  • You want the support of pocketed coils and the comfort of memory foam
  • You want a mattress which is comfortable for sex

How Is the Nectar Mattress Built?

All of the materials used in the Nectar Mattress are CertiPUR-US®-Certified as non-toxic and non-carcinogenic, in addition to being some of the better materials we’ve seen used in a memory foam mattress. The mattress is built on a 7-inch support core of high-density memory foam and polyfoam, then padded a 3-inch comfort layer of gel memory foam and a 2-inch transitional polyfoam layer.

If you sleep with a partner, you’ll appreciate the Nectar Mattress’s better-than-average motion isolation and edge support. (Some users have noted that this edge support does not always last over time.) Users also found that the Nectar is virtually silent, so long as the base is also silent, making it a good choice for couples of almost all sleep types.

How Is the DreamCloud Mattress Built?

Like the Nectar Mattress, the DreamCloud is built using only CertiPUR-US®-Certified materials. These include a comfort layer of gel memory foam, a polyfoam transitional layer, and a support core containing pocketed coils and high-density base foam. The cover is made from a cashmere blend and a thin layer of foam is quilted into the top surface. Altogether, the mattress measures 14 inches thick.

The DreamCloud scored well on our sleep ratings, earning a “good” or “very good” on all but edge support, which is less robust than most hybrid models. This mattress offers a silent sleep with good motion isolation, and reviewers found that its responsive, rebound-free bounce was appropriate for sex.

Nectar Sleep Trial, Warranty, and Delivery

  • Shipping Free shipping within contiguous U.S.

  • Warranty Lifetime

  • Made In China

  • Trial Period Details

Nectar offers a 365-night sleep trial for the Nectar Mattress.

In order to ensure you love your mattress and feel confident about your purchase, Nectar offers a 365-night sleep trial. (This does not include the mandatory 30-day break-in period after receiving your mattress, so you have 395 nights in total to make your decision but cannot return the mattress within the first 30 days.)

If you decide against keeping your mattress, Nectar offers a full refund (minus any white glove delivery fees) and does not charge for pick-up. Instead, they will work with your local facilities to either donate, recycle, or dispose of the unwanted mattress. If the mattress you receive is faulty from the start or has been damaged in transit, you are also eligible for an immediate exchange without having to wait through the 30-day break-in period.

  • Warranty

    Nectar offers a lifetime warranty.

Customers who desire a strong warranty for their mattress will be pleased to know that Nectar offers lifetime support. They call this their “Forever Warranty”, and it covers a limited, industry-standard range of manufacturing defects (for the foam itself and the integrated cover), as well as any impressions which are 1.5″ or deeper. For the first ten years, the company will replace your defective mattress with no fees. Beyond that, they charge two $50 fees unless the problem is purely a manufacturing defect.

As we estimate this durable mattress to have a lifetime of 6-7 years, the 10-year free period will be more than adequate for most people. Supporting your mattress incorrectly will void the warranty, and it does not cover normal wear-and-tear, damage, normal foam softening, misuse, or changes in your comfort preference. The warranty cannot be transferred and any replacement mattress will fall within the original warranty.

  • Delivery Details

    How is the Mattress Shipped?

Nectar ships their mattress compressed and rolled, in a protective sleeve within a box.

    Where Do They Ship?

Nectar offers customers free shipping in the contiguous U.S. but charge Alaskan and Hawaiian customers a $150 delivery fee. They do not currently offer international shipping.

    White Glove Delivery

Customers can purchase white glove delivery and set-up for a $149 fee. Additional items (including mattress removal, see below) cost $45 per item.

    Full Shipping Details

If you live within the contiguous U.S. you are eligible for free FedEx Ground shipping on your new mattress. However, Alaskan and Hawaiian customers will pay an extra $150 for delivery. (Nectar does not deliver internationally.) Once you have paid for your mattress, it is shipped within 1-2 days and usually arrives within 3-5 days, although Alaskan and Hawaiian customers may find theirs takes slightly longer. Nectar’s white glove delivery option, while sometimes taking 5-7 days for arrival, is a good choice for people who would struggle with the 45-105lb weight of their mattress.

    Old Mattress Removal?

Once you purchase the $149 white glove delivery option, you can pay $45 for old mattress removal. Extra recycling fees apply in California, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

  • Trial Period

DreamCloud offers a 365-night sleep trial for the DreamCloud Mattress.

It may take thirty days to adjust to a new mattress, but the DreamCloud trial period does not have a mandatory break-in period. While you could return your mattress after the first night’s sleep, the company encourages you to take advantage of their 365-night trial period. This generous offer allows customers to see how their mattress performs under different temperature conditions, as well as allowing for variations in support needs throughout the year.

If you are not happy with your purchase, DreamCloud offers a full refund (minus any white glove delivery fees) and coordinates removal from your home. (It is not necessary to keep any delivery packaging.) If you receive a damaged mattress, DreamCloud will replace it without ending your trial period.

  • Warranty

    DreamCloud offers a lifetime warranty

We estimate that the DreamCloud Mattress will have a lifespan of 7-8 years under normal conditions, but DreamCloud offers a lifetime warranty policy covering an industry-standard range of problems and defects. So long as you support your mattress correctly (failing to do so will void the warranty), the company will cover sagging and impressions 1.5″ or deeper, as well as flaws in both the mattress cover and the inner materials.

It does not cover damage, normal wear-and-tear, changes in mattress preference, owner misuse, or impressions under 1.5″. For the first ten years (the expected lifespan of the mattress), there are no replacement fees. After ten years, the company charges two $50 shipment fees unless they determine that the mattress is defective.  Please note that the warranty is non-transferrable.
