Logan & Cove Mattress Review

Written by Tuck Staff

Logan & Cove Mattress Review

The Bottom Line.

  • The Logan & Cove is a hybrid mattress available in medium-soft and medium-firm.
  • The mattress utilizes innovative materials for sustainability and improved comfort.
  • Excellent edge support, suitability for sex, and popularity among a wide range of sleepers make it a good choice for couples.

Logan & Cove Mattress Overview

Logan & Cove Mattress Overview

Canadian mattress and sleep product manufacturer Novosbed has several brands in its roster, including the hybrid Logan & Cove mattress. Launched in 2018, the Logan & Cove is available in two firmness options (medium-soft and medium-firm) and features luxury detailing at an affordable price-point.

Logan & Cove utilizes several unique materials in their mattress, beginning with a tufted cover made from sustainable, wood-derived Tencel fibers. The cover is integrated into the mattress’s pillow-top comfort layers, the first of which is filled with a breathable silk blend.

In both mattress options, this is followed by four more comfort layers which alternate between gel-infused polyfoam and memory foam, and soy-derived bio-foam. Depending on the firmness level, these may be high-density, medium-density, or zoned for different densities in different areas.

For its support core, the Logan & Cove uses 2 inches of high-density bio-foam, as well as 8 inches of zoned, pocketed coils.

In this review, we’ll share details about the Logan & Cove’s construction, how it performed in our sleep tests, and what you need to know before making a purchase.

  • Average weight sleepers. The Logan & Cove proved to be popular with nearly all our sleep testers, but was most suitable for those between 130 and 230 pounds. For these testers, it proved to be an ideal balance of comfort and support.
  • Back and stomach sleepers. Due to ergonomically zoned coils, the Logan & Cove is built to be more supportive in places where people carry more weight. This is important for back and stomach sleepers, as it prevents their spine from moving out of alignment with their hips.
  • Couples. Superb edge support, suitability for sex, and temperature neutrality make the Logan & Cove an ideal choice for couples. Since it is suitable for a wide range of sleepers, most couples will find it offers them both a good night’s sleep.
  • Customers looking for affordable eco-friendliness. Although the Logan & Cove isn’t made using 100% natural materials, its use of plant-based foams and Tencel fabric make it more sustainable than some of its competitors.

Not Recommended for...

  • Side-sleepers above 230 pounds. Neither of the Logan & Cove’s firmness options is well-suited for side sleepers at this weight. The softer choice lacks adequate support, while the firmer mattress caused the development of pressure points.
  • People who prefer exceptional pressure relief. While the Logan & Cove does offer good contouring around the body, it lacks the pressure relief of mattresses with thicker, less-dense memory foam layers. However, pressure relief is improved by choosing the right firmness level for your weight.

Ratings Summary

Tuck’s testing team conducted an extensive evaluation of the Logan & Cove mattress. Our review and rating process consists of three parts: in-house evaluation, external sleep testing, and data collection of verified owner experiences. To learn more about our review process, read our methodology here.

Our performance criteria and ratings for the bed are listed in the table below.

As you can see, the Logan & Cove performed well in our testing, with scores ranging from ‘good’ to ‘excellent’. Read below to learn more about how we decided on each score, as well as what these ratings mean.

Sleep Position Ratings

As part of our ratings process, we evaluated the Logan & Cove mattress across different body types and preferred sleep positions. In addition to physical testing, we surveyed our sleep expert team and analyzed reviews from verified mattress owners and customers. Our findings are listed in the table below.

For more information on sleeping positions please see our guides for side, back, stomach and combination sleepers.

Logan & Cove Mattress Awards

Based on both our analysis and reviews from verified customers, we’ve given the Logan & Cove the following award.

How Is the Logan & Cove Mattress Constructed?

Cover

The Logan & Cove’s tufted, black-and-white cover is made from sustainable, wood-derived Tencel fibers. Stronger and more breathable than cotton, Tencel is ultra-soft to the touch and wicks away moisture very well. However, since the Logan & Cove’s cover is integrated into the mattress itself, it cannot be removed for cleaning.

Comfort Layers

Both of the Logan & Cove’s firmness options feature five comfort layers, all contained in the mattress’s 4-inch pillow-top. However, the density of these layers differs depending on whether you choose a medium-soft or medium-firm mattress.

Below the cover, you’ll find 1 inch of breathable silk-blend filling. This offers a soft, pillowy feel to the touch and improves temperature regulation through better airflow. Next is a three-quarters-inch layer of high-density gel foam, followed by a half-inch layer of medium or high-density bio-foam.

Bio-foam is partially derived from soy and thought to be more sustainable than fully synthetic foams, and bio-foam and traditional synthetic foams are both used throughout the Logan & Cove.

In both firmness options, the final components of the comfort system are 1-inch layers of both gel memory foam and bio-foam. The latter is high-density for the medium-firm bed, or tri-zoned for different densities in the medium-soft bed.

Support Layers

Two layers make up the Logan & Cove’s support core: a 2-inch layer of high-density bio-foam, which also functions as a transitional layer, and 8 inches of zoned, pocketed steel coils.

Pocketed coils, like those used in the Logan & Cove, offer both better motion isolation and pressure relief than traditional, connected innersprings. Because each is sewn within a separate fabric pocket, they can compress individually without pulling on their neighboring coils.

Logan & Cove also uses ergonomic zoning to tune their coils, making them stronger in areas that carry heavier weight (such as at the hips) while allowing them to compress more easily in areas of less weight.

Mattress Height

Its height of 14 inches makes the Logan & Cove a thick mattress. Combined with its above-average edge support, due in part to its specialized edge support foam, this height makes it a good choice for people who find it challenging to rise from their bed.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?

Since it is available in two firmness options, the Logan & Cove will feel different depending on which option you choose. The first, which Novosbed calls ‘medium plush’, is a medium-soft choice which our team rated at 4.5 out of 10 on the 1-10 firmness scale. Heavier sleepers are more likely to prefer the ‘luxury firm’ mattress, which we consider medium-firm at 6.5 out of 10.

Both options offer a classic hybrid experience, with a lightly pressure-relieving cradle from the comfort layers and improved support from the pocketed coils. The ergonomic zoning used to tune the coils is noticeable, allowing for fewer pressure points than some competitors with thicker comfort layering.

Our sleep testers found that they sank further into the medium-soft mattress, which provided them with a more contoured sleep surface than the medium-firm option. The latter exchanges softness for improved support, though heavier sleepers (who compress foam more) are likely to find this option more comfortable.

Ratings Breakdown

Performance Ratings

Next, let’s take a closer look at our performance ratings for the Logan & Cove mattress. These ratings are based on findings from our internal and external testing teams, along with verified customer and owner experiences.

Durability

Since the Logan & Cove was only launched in 2018, our durability rating is based primarily on what we know of its construction and materials.

Hybrid mattresses are known to be more durable than all-foam options, due to the stabilizing strength of their coils. We were impressed with the quality of foam used here, which should stand up well to ordinary use without deteriorating. The pillow-top design, with its silk-blend filling, should also help by preventing impressions from forming in the foam over time.

Overall, we awarded the Logan & Cove with a ‘very good’ rating in this category, as we expect it will have a longer lifespan than the average 6-7 years of similarly constructed competitors.

Motion Isolation

Although pocketed coils offer better motion isolation than traditional innersprings, our testing found that the Logan & Cove only scored an average grade in this category. Sleep-testers who shared a bed with a partner said that they could feel when their partner switched positions, as well as when they left the bed. However, none of our testers reported being woken in the night by movement.

These results were backed up by our in-house testing, which showed that the Logan & Cove does transfer some movement across the sleep surface. Because of its very good edge support, the mattress is better at isolating movement from people getting out of bed, rather than changing positions in bed.

Off-Gassing

Our testing team found that the Logan & Cove experiences an average amount of off-gassing once unpacked. The odor, which is similar to plastic or rubber, was strongest immediately after unboxing and quickly began to fade. After 24 hours, our testers said they would have little problem sleeping on the bed, and the scent entirely dissipated after 48 hours.

Off-gassing is caused by a byproduct of foam manufacture called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). While these can cause an unpleasant smell, they are relatively harmless.

Pressure Relief

Both our in-house pressure mapping tools and the reports from our sleep-testers supported an average grade for the Logan & Cove’s pressure-relieving capabilities. The medium-soft option provided a more cradling effect for our testers, as they sank in further against the comfort layers.

The medium-firm mattress, on the other hand, offers a less-contouring sleep surface,  which caused some heavier side-sleepers to develop pressure points at their hips and shoulders. Testers also found that the medium-firm choice also provided a more ‘floating’ feel of sleeping on, rather than in, their mattress.

Although the Logan & Cove should provide adequate pressure relief for most people, side-sleepers above 230 pounds and those in need of advanced pressure relief may find it less comfortable.

Temperature Neutrality

While there were some outliers, the majority of our testers were impressed by the Logan and Cove’s temperature neutrality. Testers who tend to sleep hot reported that the bed offered a cool sleep and that they were able to go the night without removing any layers of bedding.

Clamminess, often a problem with foam comfort layers, also proved to be less of an issue due to the bed’s breathable, silk-blend pillow-top. This effect is improved by the pocketed coils, which allow for less heat retention and more airflow than an all-foam mattress, and the cooling gel-infused memory foam.

Edge Support

Our testing team awarded the Logan & Cove a grade of ‘very good’ in this category due to its above-average performance. Hybrid mattresses usually have better edge support than all-foam models. Still, the Logan & Cove improves on this tendency by encasing the mattress’s support core in specialized edge-support foam.

Sitting on the side of the bed caused it to dip, though not significantly, and testers who slept close to the edges of the sleep surface still found that they were adequately supported. This latter detail makes the mattress a good choice for couples, as they can sleep where they like without worrying about losing support closer to the sides.

Noise

Tuck’s sleep testers found that the Logan & Cove is a reasonably quiet, though not silent, mattress. While the pillow-top comfort layering was virtually noiseless, testers reported that the pocketed coil support core creaked quietly when moving and slightly more so when initially climbing into bed.

These sounds are likely to increase over time, since coils can develop further creaking over their lifetime. However, most people are unlikely to be bothered by the Logan & Cove’s noise levels, which are average for a hybrid mattress.

Sex

Logan & Cove’s use of high-density foam in its comfort layering offers a bounciness that is unusual among mattresses which utilize memory foam. This resilience, along with the mattress’s very good edge support and relative quiet, is why we awarded it an excellent rating in this category.

While the bed does offer some contouring (particularly in the medium-soft option), this is not deep enough to impede movement and instead provides enough traction to counteract the silkiness of the Tencel cover.

Sleeper Ratings

In this section, we’ll provide you with a more in-depth look at how well the Logan & Cove performs for different body types.

Different mattresses are more or less suitable for different people, depending on their body shape, weight, and preferred sleeping position. To help our readers find their ideal mattress, we stay objective by ensuring our sleep testers represent a diverse range of sleepers.

Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.

The Logan & Cove proved to be popular among our lightweight sleep testers. Our team found that it was equally suitable for side, back, and stomach sleepers, offering them good pressure relief paired with excellent support. This tendency, which was repeated in other weight categories, makes the Logan & Cove an outstanding choice for couples with different sleep preferences.

Most lightweight sleepers preferred the medium-soft firmness option, as the less-dense foams allowed for better pressure-relieving qualities. Lighter sleepers do not compress foam as much, making firmer mattresses feel harder and less comfortable.

Side sleepers found the softer choice to be particularly important, as the firmer option caused some to experience pressure points where their shoulder or hip pushed into the bed.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.

Side sleepers in this weight category found that the Logan & Cove offered them an excellent sleep experience. The pillow-top comfort layering minimized any pressure points — an essential consideration for side sleepers — while supporting the waist and hips for correct spinal alignment throughout the night.

Back and stomach sleeping testers also gave the mattress high scores, with both groups singling out the ergonomic support provided by the zoned coils.

Although the majority of our average-weight sleepers preferred the medium-firm option, some were more comfortable with a medium-soft mattress. Side sleepers, particularly on the lighter end of this category’s range, are more likely to fall into the second category.

Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.

While our side and back sleeping testers in this weight category all found the Logan & Cove provided them with a very good sleep, our side sleeping testers shared some concerns. For sleepers above 230 pounds, the medium-firm option offers the best combination of pressure relief and support.

However, our side sleepers reported that this firmness level caused the development of pressure points, while the medium-soft option failed to provide them with enough support.

For our side and back-sleeping testers, these concerns were less of an issue. The medium-firm mattress offered gentle contouring to cradle their body, while the ergonomically zoned coils prevented their hips from falling out of alignment with their spine.

How Does the Logan & Cove Mattress Compare to Other Beds?

Through our testing process, we’re able to discern the similarities and differences among competing mattresses. In this section, we’ll compare the Logan & Cove against some other choices you might be interested in.

In addition to the Logan & Cove, Novosbed sells five other mattresses as part of their Good Morning collection, including the all-foam Novosbed and Douglas mattresses.

Logan & Cove vs. Novosbed

The Logan & Cove is available at two firmness levels, but the all-foam, 10-inch Novosbed offers even more advanced customization. You can choose between three firmness options — soft (3.5), medium (5), and medium-firm (6.5) — when initially purchasing your mattress. If you decide the mattress is too soft or too firm, Novosbed offers Comfort+ kits with additional layers to change the firmness level.

This level of customization is made possible by the unzippable, washable cover, which, like the Logan & Cove’s, is made with Tencel fibers. Below the cover, you’ll find a comfort layer of memory foam (gel memory foam in the soft firmness option), a layer of transitional foam, and a support core of high-density polyfoam.

The densities of these layers differ based on chosen firmness level, making for an all-foam bed which offers better pressure relief than the Logan & Cove.

Both mattresses appeal to a wide range of sleeper types. Still, the Logan & Cove’s superior edge support, temperature neutrality, and suitability for sex make it a better choice for couples.

Logan & Cove vs. the Douglas

A medium-firm (6 out of 10) all-foam mattress, the Douglas is one of the most affordable options in the Good Morning collection. Like the Logan & Cove, it has a cover made from breathable, wood-derived Tencel fibers. However, the cover is unzippable and washable, making it a good choice for anyone concerned about staining.

The Douglas’s comfort layers include 2 inches of both gel memory foam (made using less carbon input than is standard) and a polyfoam which mimics the signature bounciness and resilience of latex.  These are followed by a 6-inch support core of high-density polyfoam.

Due to its single firmness level, the Douglas is not suitable for as wide a range of sleepers as the Logan & Cove. Instead, it is better suited for average-weight and heavier sleepers, particularly side and back sleepers. The Douglas’s all-foam construction also means that it offers better pressure relief and motion isolation than the Logan & Cove. However, the Logan & Cove pulled ahead with better grades in durability, temperature neutrality, edge support, and suitability for sex.

Next, we’ll take a closer look at two mattresses which share many similarities with the Logan & Cove.

Logan & Cove vs. the Casper Hybrid

One of the biggest names among online mattress retailers, Casper launched their Casper Hybrid model in 2019. Available only at a medium firmness level of 5.5 out of 10, the Casper Hybrid offers excellent support for lightweight sleepers but was too soft to appeal to our heavier sleep testers.

It has an unzippable polyester cover and features two 1.5-inch comfort layers — standard polyfoam and medium-density memory foam — over a zoned polyfoam transition layer and 6 inches of pocketed coils.

While the Logan & Cove received better grades from our testing team, both mattresses scored well overall, though with their own strengths and weaknesses. The Casper Hybrid offers significantly better pressure relief than the Logan & Cove, with comfort layering which provides a much more cradling effect for its firmness level.

Similarly, its motion isolation is more effective than the Logan & Cove’s. However, the Logan & Cove once again proves itself to be more couple-friendly due to better edge support, durability, and suitability for sex.

Read our Full Casper Hybrid Mattress Review.

Logan & Cove vs. Saatva

Available in three firmness levels — medium-soft (4), medium-firm (6), and firm (7.5) — and heights of both 11.5 and 14.5 inches, the Saatva is a highly customizable, luxury innerspring mattress. The integrated cover is composed of organic cotton, polyfoam padding, and polyester fiber, making it very breathable and soft to the touch.

After the cover, the Saatva features 7 inches of comfort layering, made from polyfoam, memory foam, and pocketed microcoils which rest over a 4-inch or 7-inch bonnell coil support core. This coil-on-coil design provides the Saatva with excellent responsiveness and the feeling of sleeping on, rather than in, the mattress.

In our testing, the two mattresses shared similar results for pressure relief, temperature neutrality, and edge support, though the Logan & Cove offers better durability, motion isolation, and suitability for sex. These results are to be expected, as the coil supports of both beds have similar qualities. However, the Logan & Cove also appeals to a broader range of sleepers, particularly lightweight sleepers.
