- Mattress shoppers who are unsure about their firmness preferences. Helix customers are invited to complete an online sleep quiz, which narrows down LUXE models based on the individual’s body type, normal sleep position, and other personal factors.
- People who enjoy a balance of body-conforming and support. LUXE mattresses have thick comfort systems that contour to the sleeper’s body somewhat closely, but these models are also fairly responsive due to their thick pocketed coils. In addition to physical testing, we surveyed our sleep expert team and analyzed reviews from verified mattress owners and customers. Our findings are listed in the table below.

How Are Helix LUXE Mattresses Constructed?
Cover
Each Helix LUXE mattress has a pillow-top cover padded with polyfoam. The foam has an indentation load deflection (ILD) of 10, indicating a very plush feel. The cover fabric is 100 percent Tencel lyocell, a synthetic material that is exceptionally soft and breathable.
Comfort Layers
The Sunset LUXE, Midnight LUXE, and Twilight LUXE have top comfort layers made of 2.5 PCF Memory Plus Foam, Helix’s proprietary memory foam. The material has a low density, meaning it won’t absorb as much body heat as memory foam with a higher density, but this also indicates less durability.
The Moonlight LUXE, Dusk LUXE, and Dawn LUXE have top comfort layers made of Helix Dynamic Foam, the brand’s signature polyfoam material. This material feels more responsive than the Memory plus Foam found in the other three models, and will not conform as closely to the sleeper’s body.
Additionally, all six models contain a secondary comfort layer of Helix Dynamic Foam.
Transitional Layer
The six LUXE mattresses each include a transitional layer of high-grade polyfoam located beneath the comfort layers. This component acts as a buffer for sleepers. It prevents them from sinking too deeply into the mattress and coming into contact with the coil system, which is very dense and uncomfortable for sleeping.
Support Layers
Helix LUXE mattresses all feature support cores consisting of 8-inch pocketed coils over a base layer of high-density polyfoam. These sturdy materials help stabilize the mattress to minimize sagging in the sleep surface and reinforce the edges against significant sinkage when owners get in and out of bed. The coil layer also promotes steady airflow to keep the mattress at a cool, comfortable temperature.
Mattress Height
LUXE mattresses measure 14 inches thick, making them high-profile models. Their above-average height ensures plenty of space for a plush pillow-top and deep comfort layers without sacrificing support core strength. As a result, the mattresses conform to the sleeper while maintaining an even plane for their body.
Shoppers should note that LUXE mattresses may require deep-pocket fitted sheets. Some standard bedding sets include fitted sheets with an insufficient pocket depth.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?
Each LUXE mattress has a unique feel that distinguishes it from other models in the collection.
The Sunset LUXE, Midnight LUXE, and Twilight LUXE are constructed with memory foam comfort layers that conform very evenly to the sleeper’s body. The memory foam has a low density, so the material also sleeps fairly cool compared to the higher-density foams found in many competing mattresses. The Sunset LUXE is medium-soft (4), resulting in very close conforming and good pressure relief for lighter people – side sleepers in particular. The Midnight LUXE is medium (5.5) and offers a balance of body-contouring and sleeper support, making it ideal for those in the average weight group. Lastly, the Twilight LUXE is firm (7). The mattress conforms to a minimal extent, and is best suited to heavier people, especially back and stomach sleepers.
The Moonlight LUXE, Dusk LUXE, and Dawn LUXE have polyfoam comfort layers. This material does not conform as evenly as memory foam, and also feels more responsive. It also sleeps fairly cool due to its lower density. The Moonlight LUXE (4) has the softest feel and is optimal for those who weigh less than 130 pounds. The Dusk LUXE (5.5) and Dawn LUXE (7) conform less and offer more support, making them better suited to individuals weighing 130 pounds or more.
Thanks to their thick coil systems, all six LUXE mattresses feel fairly responsive. This creates a feeling of both sleeping “on” and sleeping “in” the mattress, though sleepers will notice more conforming and deeper sinking on LUXE models with memory foam comfort layers.
Ratings Breakdown
Performance Ratings
Next, let’s take an in-depth look at our performance ratings for the Helix LUXE collection. Each rating is based on feedback from our internal and external testing teams, as well as experiences from verified LUXE owners.
Durability
Helix first introduced the LUXE mattresses in 2018, and we have not had enough time to test these models against the average mattress lifespan of six to eight years. Our durability rating for LUXE mattresses is based on quality of materials and construction, owner experiences, and Helix’s overall reputation.
Due to their structural similarities, we estimate each LUXE model will perform for about six to six and a half years before a replacement mattress is needed. This expected lifespan is on par with the average hybrid. LUXE mattresses are equipped with thick coils and other durable support materials to prevent major sagging and sinkage along the edges. However, the sleep surface may begin to lose shape and develop body impressions as the comfort foams begin to deteriorate. This is especially common in beds with pillow-top covers, as the softer fill tends to wear out rather quickly. The low-density polyfoam may also play a role in the lifespan, as this material is less durable that medium- or high-density foam.
We recommend rotating LUXE mattresses head-to-foot every three to six months. This can help prevent deep body impressions from forming over time.
Motion Isolation
To evaluate the LUXE mattresses for motion isolation, we asked two testers to lie side-by-side on each model. One tester moved around while the other felt for motion transferring across the bed’s surface. During these tests, three LUXE models stood out: Sunset LUXE, Moonlight LUXE, and Midnight LUXE. Their better-than-average motion isolation can be attributed to softer comfort layers, which typically absorb motion and minimize transfer better than firmer foams.
The Dusk LUXE, Twilight LUXE, and Dawn LUXE isolated some motion, but did not completely eliminate transfer. However, they still performed better than many competing hybrids in this category due to their fairly thick comfort systems.
Off-Gassing
Our testers noticed some initial off-gassing odor when unboxing the LUXE mattresses, but these smells had mostly dissipated when they re-evaluated the mattresses a few days later. Their coil layers circulate air very well to clear out unwanted smells. Low-density foams – like those found in LUXE comfort layers – also trap less odor than foams with higher densities.
Pressure Relief
To evaluate the LUXE mattresses for pressure relief, our testers took turns lying on a sensory pad that monitors pressure buildup in the shoulders, hips, and other sensitive areas. They also switched sleep positions to see if pressure increased or decreased when lying on their sides, back, or stomach.
Of all six LUXE models, the Sunset LUXE provided the best pressure relief for our testers. This can be attributed to its medium-soft memory foam comfort layer, which conforms very closely and evenly to the sleeper’s body. Comparatively, the testers experienced the most added pressure when lying on the Dawn LUXE, and this is due to the model’s firm polyfoam layer.
The other four LUXE mattresses offer good pressure relief, and are on par with many competing hybrids in this category.
Temperature Neutrality
All six LUXE mattresses exhibited strong temperature neutrality during our tests. Strong airflow through their coil layers helps the mattresses maintain a comfortable temperature. The lower-density comfort foams also absorb minimal body heat. This, along with the breathable Tencel covers, results in more surface cooling.
Edge Support
To evaluate the LUXE mattresses for edge support, our testers sat along the perimeter of each model as an owner might do when getting in and out of bed. They also took turns lying near the mattress edges to check for feelings of “roll-off.”
The Dusk LUXE, Twilight LUXE, and Dawn LUXE demonstrated excellent edge support during these assessments. The testers noted very little sinkage when sitting along the perimeter, and they also felt very stable while lying near the edges, even when changing sleep positions. The strong edge support of these models is due to their firmer comfort materials and zoned support cores with thicker low-gauge coils along the perimeter.
The other three models – Sunset LUXE, Moonlight LUXE, and Midnight LUXE – also have zoned coil systems for added perimeter reinforcement. However, our testers noticed more sinkage and felt less stable when sitting and lying along the edges of the models, and this is due to their softer comfort foams.
Noise
Our testers noticed very little noise when evaluating the six LUXE models. This is normal for hybrid mattresses because pocketed coils tend to be much quieter than the coils used in innersprings. As these mattresses near the end of their lifespans, the coils may be more prone to squeaks and creaks, but we don’t foresee major sleep disruptions for LUXE owners.
Sex
The medium and firm LUXE models are fairly responsive due to their thick coils, but the comfort foams also conform a bit to sleepers. Many couples consider these attributes ideal for sex. The springy surface allows couples to move freely across the entire bed and change positions rather easily, while the contouring foam ensures great traction during sex without causing deep sinkage.
The Sunset LUXE and Moonlight LUXE have earned lower ratings due to their softer sleep surfaces. These models are also responsive, but their foams conform very closely and this may restrict movement for couples during sex.
Sleeper Ratings
The ideal firmness and thickness for a mattress largely depend on a sleeper’s body weight, shape, and preferred sleep position. In order to better inform our readers and avoid subjectivity in our review, our team evaluated the bed with sleep testers of varying body types and position preferences.
Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.
Due to their distinct feels, our sleep testers noted very different experiences on each LUXE mattress.
Lightweight side sleepers gave very favorable ratings to the Sunset LUXE and Moonlight LUXE. These models provide ample cushioning for the shoulders and hips, ensuring even spinal alignment and excellent pressure relief. The Midnight LUXE and Dusk LUXE offered adequate padding, but side sleepers did not feel very comfortable on the Twilight LUXE or Dawn LUXE. These mattresses, both with firm feels, do not conform closely enough to align the spine or reduce pressure points.
For lightweight back sleepers, the Sunset LUXE, Moonlight LUXE, and Midnight LUXE conform closely enough for back sleepers while maintaining a very supportive feel. The remaining three LUXE models offer minimal conforming for those weighing less than 130 pounds, but the mattresses maintain even support and do not sag excessively.
Stomach sleepers felt very comfortable on the Moonlight LUXE and Dusk LUXE due to their mid-level firmness. The Sunset LUXE and Midnight LUXE conformed somewhat closely, but stomach sleepers felt a bit of sagging around the midsection, while they found the Twilight LUXE and Dawn LUXE a bit too firm.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.
Our testers weighing 130 to 230 pounds awarded positive overall ratings to the LUXE mattresses, but there were a few exceptions. Side sleepers in this weight group noted a lack of cushioning on the Twilight LUXE or Dawn LUXE due to their firmer feels. As a result, their spines were not aligned evenly and they experienced minimal pressure relief. The other four LUXE models offered ample padding and even support for side sleepers.
Average weight back sleepers found the Moonlight LUXE, Dusk LUXE, and Dawn LUXE more comfortable and supportive than the LUXE mattresses with memory foam components. Their Helix Dynamic Foam layers offer adequate body-contouring and even support, and back sleepers felt less pressure as a result.
Stomach sleepers felt the most sagging around their midsections when lying on the medium-soft Sunset LUXE. Sagging is a common issue associated with this sleep position because many people carry a large portion of weight around the midsection, and sleeping face-down can cause the body to sink excessively. Stomach sleepers in this weight group experienced the least sagging on the Twilight LUXE and Dawn LUXE.
Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.
Heavyweight side sleepers preferred the Dusk LUXE, Twilight LUXE, and Dawn LUXE over the other three LUXE mattresses. These models cushion the body sufficiently without sagging around the hips – a common issue for heavier side sleepers, especially on softer mattresses.
Back sleepers also noticed more pressure relief and better support on the firmer LUXE models. This was particularly true for the Dawn LUXE, which earned the highest ratings from back sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds. The Twilight LUXE also rated very well with these testers, while the medium-soft and medium LUXE models sagged more and felt less supportive by comparison.
Stomach sleepers in this weight group experienced the most discomfort on the Sunset LUXE, though sagging was also an issue for the Moonlight LUXE, Midnight LUXE, and Dusk LUXE. Heavier stomach sleepers greatly preferred the Dawn LUXE and Twilight LUXE over the other four models.

How Do Helix LUXE Mattresses Compare to Other Beds?
We encourage all mattress shoppers to compare different brands and models in order to determine their most suitable option. In this next section, we’ll see how LUXE mattresses compare to standard hybrids from Helix and similarly constructed mattresses from other competing brands.
Helix LUXE vs. Helix
Helix offers six standard hybrids with the same corresponding names and firmness levels as models in the LUXE collection. However, the standard mattresses lack the pillow-top covers and zoned support cores of their LUXE counterparts. Helix standard mattresses also have one comfort layer of memory foam or Helix Dynamic Foam, as opposed to the two comfort layers found in LUXE mattresses.
These structural differences result in different experiences for sleepers. The standard Helix mattresses do not provide the same perimeter reinforcement due to their non-zoned coils. The LUXE models’ thicker comfort layers also offer more pressure relief and better motion isolation than the singular layers found in the standard models.
LUXE mattresses are considerably more expensive than the Helix standard mattress models. The lower price-point will no doubt be a deciding factor for some buyers, but the LUXE mattresses offer better quality and more support for sleepers across different weight and position groups.

Helix LUXE vs. Bear Hybrid
The Bear Hybrid is constructed with polyfoam comfort and transitional layers over 8-inch pocketed coils. Like LUXE models, the Bear Hybrid measures 14 inches thick. It is considered medium-firm (6).
The LUXE collection is more versatile, with six individual models specifically designed for certain body types and sleep positions. The Bear Hybrid is a bit more limiting for customers, though it is better suited to those who prefer a medium-firm feel, as none of the LUXE models are available with this firmness. One of the Bear Hybrid’s standout features is a cover made from Celliant fabric, an innovative material that absorbs body heat from sleepers and converts it into infrared energy. This process helps increase tissue oxygenation, improve circulation, and promote muscle recovery after workouts.
The Bear Hybrid’s Celliant cover may be a big draw for athletes and other physically active people, and the mattress also costs less than any of the LUXE models. However, those whose firmness preferences fall outside medium-firm should consider a LUXE mattress instead.

Helix LUXE vs. Casper Hybrid
The Casper Hybrid features polyfoam and memory foam comfort layers, along with 6-inch pocketed coils. This model’s thicker comfort and transitional layers provide excellent pressure relief and better-than-average motion isolation, but the shorter coils provide minimal reinforcement to the perimeter. As a result, the LUXE models offer much stronger edge support.
Temperature neutrality is a shared strength between these mattresses. The Casper Hybrid, like all LUXE models, has a coil layer that promotes strong airflow to help the mattress maintain a comfortable temperature. However, the Casper Hybrid is only available with a medium (5) firmness. Those who would rather sleep on medium-soft or firm mattresses are much likelier to prefer one of the LUXE mattresses instead.
The Casper Hybrid is the less expensive model. It is optimal for sleepers who enjoy the hybrid feel but need more pressure relief and motion isolation. LUXE models, on the other hand, provide more edge support and better responsiveness for sex.

Helix LUXE vs. DreamCloud
The DreamCloud is a hybrid that shares many structural similarities with the LUXE models. These include a padded Euro-top cover, thick comfort layers, and a zoned 8-inch coil system. Like LUXE mattresses, the DreamCloud offers a mix of body-conforming and responsiveness that is akin to both sleeping “on” and sleeping “in” the mattress.
Due to these similarities, the LUXE and DreamCloud hybrids have earned comparable ratings in most performance categories. These models offer strong edge support due to thicker coils reinforcing the perimeter, consistent temperature neutrality thanks to steady airflow, and great responsiveness for sex. Although the DreamCloud is optimal for those who prefer a medium-firm (6.5) feel, the LUXE collection includes more firmness options for those with different preferences.
The DreamCloud costs considerably less than any of the LUXE models, and is a great option for those who would rather sleep on a medium-firm surface. LUXE models are better suited to sleepers who prefer medium-soft, medium, or firm mattresses.

Helix LUXE vs. Saatva
The Saatva is an innerspring model featuring polyfoam, memory foam, and pocketed minicoil layers over a support core of bonnell coils. This coil-on-coil design provides exceptional responsiveness and creates a feeling of sleeping “on” – as opposed to “in” – the mattress, whereas the LUXE mattresses offer a more balanced feel.
The Saatva is available in medium-soft (4), medium-firm (6), and firm (7.5) designs. These firmness options slightly differ from those for the LUXE mattresses. Saatva mattresses are also available in an 11.5-inch medium profile or a 14.5-inch high profile. Despite these differences, the Saatva and LUXE models have earned similar ratings in many performance categories, such as edge support, temperature neutrality, and responsiveness for sex.
Customers should carefully consider their specific firmness and thickness preferences before choosing between the Saatva or a LUXE model. However, the Saatva costs much less than any LUXE mattress. Saatva customers in the contiguous U.S. also qualify for free White Glove delivery, which includes in-home assembly and old mattress removal.

Helix LUXE vs. The WinkBed
Like the Saatva mentioned above, the WinkBed is a coil-on-coil innerspring available in medium-soft (4.5), medium-firm (6.5), and firm (7.5) designs. Comfort layers of gel-infused polyfoam and foam-encased coils offer ample cushioning and body-contouring, while zoned, 7.5-inch pocketed coils encased in high-density foam provide excellent edge reinforcement and enhanced support for the sleeper’s body.
The WinkBed also includes a compressed-cotton lumbar pad for extra lower back support. This component, combined with the thick comfort materials, ensures very good pressure relief for most sleepers. The WinkBed’s dual coil layers also promote steady airflow to help the mattress maintain a comfortable temperature. As a result, the mattress – like all LUXE models – has earned very positive ratings in the temperature neutrality category.
Cost will not be a huge factor for customers because the WinkBed and LUXE models have nearly identical price-points. As with the Saatva, shoppers should consider their ideal mattress firmness when comparing the WinkBed against LUXE mattresses and make their choice accordingly.

Full Delivery Policy
The delivery policy for Helix is as follows:
- Shipping is free for customers in all 50 states. Those in Canada must pay a fee of $250 per delivery, plus a customs tax.
- Helix Sleep ships all mattresses using UPS Ground; most customers receive their delivery within six to 10 business days of placing their original order.
- Customers who need to change the shipping address of their delivery should immediately contact Helix via phone or email. If the mattress has already shipped, then address changes must be coordinated through UPS.
- A signature will not be required to receive the package, so customers will not need to be at home during their delivery. However, delivery personnel reserve the right to hold on to the package if they are ‘not confident’ the mattress will remain secure on the customer’s doorstep.
- Helix does not offer specific delivery dates for customers. However, they may be able to request certain days and times by signing up for UPS MyChoice, which is free of charge. This service allows customers to customize their delivery time within a four-hour window; for an additional fee, customers can schedule a two-hour delivery window.
- UPS Ground does not offer standard package delivery on the weekends or federal holidays; weekend deliveries are available through UPS MyChoice.
- Customers can check the status of their order using a tracking number on the Helix Sleep website. Those who have not received a tracking number after their delivery should contact Helix via email.

Trial Period and Warranty Details
Trial Period and Guarantee: Helix Sleep offers a 100-night sleep trial for all mattress owners.
- This sleep trial includes a 30-night break-in period. Customers may not return their mattress until at least 30 nights have elapsed.
- Customers who are not satisfied with their mattress after sleeping on it can request a new comfort layer from Helix Sleep at no extra cost. The topper will make the mattress softer or firmer (depending on the request).
- Helix offers exchanges for mattress sizes, but not firmness settings.
- Once a refund has been issued to a customer, it will take roughly five to seven business days before the money shows up in their account statement.
- All returned mattresses are recycled or donated to charity.
Warranty: Helix offers a 15-year warranty for all LUXE mattresses.
- The warranty is completely non-prorated.
- Helix will, at their sole discretion, repair or replace all mattresses with defects for as long as the warranty is valid.
- Warranty coverage is contingent on proper foundational support. Helix mattresses are designed for use on ‘a firm, solid-surface, on a bed base that is structurally capable’ of supporting both the mattress and the sleeper(s). Failure to utilize a proper foundation may result in denied warranty claims and/or a voided warranty.
- The warranty covers sagging and indentations in the sleep surface measuring 1 inch or deeper. Other covered defects include physical defects that cause materials to split or crack, and manufacturing flaws associated with the cover.
- The warranty does not cover sagging indentations measuring less than 1 inch. It also will not cover issues that arise due to changes in the owner’s mattress preferences, or physical damage such as burns, cuts, and stains.
- Customers who wish to return a defective mattress must ship the item to Helix at their own expense and include a copy of the original proof of purchase. If the mattress is deemed defective, Helix will reimburse the owner for up to $100 of these shipping charges.
- Repaired or replaced mattresses fall under the same warranty coverage as the original model. If a mattress is deemed defective, owners may also upgrade to a different model. Upgrade mattresses are subject to a new 15-year warranty.
- Warranty coverage is non-transferable, and is exclusively offered to the original purchaser. Anyone who acquires or buys a Helix mattress from the purchaser or a third-party mattress retailer will not be eligible for warranty protection.
