Needed to drill a hole in a part of the bed to get it to assemble, and other problems.
4 Stars
Needed to drill a hole in a part of the bed to get it to assemble, and other problems.
The bed came with a quick assembly chart including colored pictures as well as a more detailed manual with good descriptive steps and B&W pictures. The telescoping square tube (drive shaft) that connects the up/down motor to the headboard didn't look like the parts in the pictures of either set of instructions. And even though it had 17 possible positions to set the length, all 17 of them were too long. I had to drill a new hole approximately at position 18.5 in order to get the bed assembled. Please see the attached picture. The other problem I had was that the up/down motor assembly did not line up with the drive mechanism on the foot board. In order to re-align the motor, I had to use metric hex wrenches which did not come with the bed.Once everything was assembled, I tested the bed and found that both the head and foot section of the bed would raise when supposed to, but would not come back down when pressing the down button. The motor moved the correct direction, but the various places where the bed is hinged to allow that movement were all too tight to allow the bed to fall back down even though the motor moved out of the way. Pushing down strongly on the bed sections forced them down to whatever position the motor had moved to while pushing the down button.I'm going to try lubricating the moving parts tomorrow and see if that makes the bed work better in the down direction. The foam mattress (purchased separately) is still gassing out, so no one has tried sleeping on the bed yet, but I wanted to comment on the assembly problems while it was fresh in my mind. The half rails seem more loose and wobbly than I expected even when tightened strongly. I'll update my comments once I see how my 92 year old, 220 lb father gets in and out of this bed.
