Quick Overview

Eli & Elm offers sheets and other bedding accessories. The brand’s current selection includes two exclusive sheet set collections:

  • The Wharf Collection features sheet sets made of 300TC viscose from bamboo. This collection is available in Queen, King, and California King sizes. All sets include one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two pillowcases.
  • The Whitney Collection consists of bedding materials made from a 400-thread count (400TC) blend of long-staple cotton, lyocell, and paraffin. The Wharf Collection is available in six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, and California King. Each set includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and (depending on the selected size) one to two pillowcases.

Sheets and pillowcases in both collections from Eli & Elm are exceptionally cool and breathable, making them a good option for those who tend to sleep hot. The materials are also suitable for people who prefer silky-soft sheets and pillowcases. Both sets can be washed and dried in conventional machines, making them relatively low-maintenance as far as care is concerned.

Eli & Elm collections have above-average price-points compared to sheet sets made of similar materials. However, the company offers free shipping throughout the contiguous U.S. and provides reasonable, flat delivery rates for other destinations in the U.S. and Canada. The Wharf and Whitney Collections are each backed by 45-night sleep trials and five-year warranties.

Ratings

Below you’ll find performance ratings for the Wharf and Whitney Collections from Eli & Elm. To generate these ratings, our testers evaluated each sheet set component in terms of durability, fit, and other key factors.

The Wharf Sheets Collection

Category Criteria Eli & Elm Wharf Collection Rating What Eli & Elm Wharf Collection Users Say
Category

Durability

Criteria

With proper care, a sheet set can last for several years – but in many cases, regular use and frequent washing/drying cycles can cause the material to deteriorate.

Rating

Good

What Buyers Say

Rayon from bamboo is not a particularly durable material, but the Wharf Collection bedding materials have an average expected lifespan.

Category

Temperature Regulation

Criteria

Breathable sheets and pillowcases provide better temperature neutrality than those made from fabrics – often synthetics – that trap heat and cause sleepers to feel excessively warm.

Rating

Very Good

What Buyers Say

Rayon from bamboo is cooler and more breathable than most other synthetic fabrics used in bedding materials, and sheets and pillowcases in the Wharf Collection are cool and comfortable for most.

Category

Comfort and Feel

Criteria

Excessively thin sheets often bunch up and cause comfort issues, while inflexible sheets tend to snag around the sleeper’s body; the ideal sheets offer a balance of softness and flexibility.

Rating

Good

What Buyers Say

The silky-soft rayon from bamboo sheets in the Wharf Collection may bunch up to a noticeable extent, but snagging is not a major issue.

Category

Cleaning

Criteria

Although most sheets are made from materials that can be washed and dried in machines, some require more extensive cleaning and care.

Rating

Very Good

What Buyers Say

The sheets and pillowcases in the Wharf Collection can all be washed and dried in machines, making them relatively low-maintenance, but repeated cycles may lead to early deterioration.

Category

Fit

Criteria

The fitted sheet should hug the corners without being too loose or excessively tugging, and the flat sheet should drape over the side; pillowcases should be large enough to accommodate the pillow without compromising its shape.

Rating

Very Good

What Buyers Say

The Wharf Collection is available in six sizes ranging from Twin to California King, and should be suitable for most mattress owners regardless of their bed dimensions.

The Whitney Sheets Collection

Category Criteria Eli & Elm Whitney Collection Rating What Eli & Elm Whitney Collection Users Say
Category

Durability

Criteria

Most sheets and pillowcases will eventually deteriorate after nightly use and regular washing/drying cycles, but some sets last longer than others.

Rating

Good

What Buyers Say

Cotton-blend sheets tend to deteriorate somewhat quickly, but the sheets and pillowcases in the Whitney Collection appear to have average expected lifespans.

Category

Temperature Regulation

Criteria

Sheets made from breathable fabrics and materials tend to regulate the sleeper’s body temperature better, which allows them to remain cooler and more comfortable in bed.

Rating

Very Good

What Buyers Say

Sheets and pillowcases in the Whitney Collection are exceptionally breathable thanks to their composition; the long-staple cotton fibers blended with lyocell and paraffin act as a phase-changing material that helps regulate temperature and keep the sleeper comfortable.

Category

Comfort and Feel

Criteria

High-quality sheets balance softness and flexibility, and will neither bunch up too much or snag on the sleeper’s body.

Rating

Good

What Buyers Say

The cotton-blend sheets in the Whitney Collection are very soft; some bunching may occur, but snagging is unlikely.

Category

Cleaning

Criteria

Most sheets sold today can be washed and dried in machines, but those made from specialty materials may require more time-consuming and/or expensive care methods.

Rating

Very Good

What Buyers Say

Every component in the Whitney Collection can be washed and dried in a machine, though repeated cycles will likely cause the sheets and pillowcases to deteriorate – a common complaint about cotton sheets in general.

Category

Fit

Criteria

The fitted sheet should neither bunch up from being too loose nor stretch excessively at the corners, while the flat sheet should drape over the bed without being short-sided. Pillowcase fit is another important consideration, as tight cases can warp the pillow’s shape.

Rating

Fair

What Buyers Say

The Whitney Collection comes in Queen, King, and California King sizes; as a result, the sheets will not accommodate sleepers with smaller beds.

Although the materials in the Wharf and Whitney Collections are made from different materials, they have received comparable ratings in several categories.

Both sets provide good temperature neutrality and sleep fairly cool, can be cleaned easily, and provide a silky-soft feel with minimal snagging (but some bunching).

The Whitney Collection (unlike the Wharf) is only available in sizes that accommodate larger mattresses, which can be limiting to some customers. The Whitney’s price-point is also exceptionally higher than the Wharf’s, suggesting the latter is a better-value pick.
