PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress Overview

PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress Overview

PlushBeds is a California-based company that specializes in luxury mattresses. The company launched in 2007 and has since expanded its product line to include one latex hybrid model, two latex models, three memory foam models, three sofa bed models, and four RV models. PlushBeds also produces mattress toppers, pillows, bedding, adjustable beds, and bed frames.

The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress is the company’s only hybrid model. It uses eco-friendly materials, including an organic cotton cover, a Joma Wool fire barrier, an organic Dunlop latex comfort layer, and a pocketed coil support core. Altogether, the mattress measures 12 inches thick.

The Luxury Bliss Mattress comes in two firmness options: Medium (5.5) and Medium-Firm (6.5).

This review will examine the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in depth. We’ll discuss the mattress’s construction, performance, and pricing. Additionally, we’ll compare the Luxury Bliss to several similar models and summarize the company’s policies on shipping, returns, and warranties.

  • Couples with different sleep preferences. Our sleep testers rated the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress very well across all weight groups and sleep positions, so it may be a good choice for couples from different weight groups who do not share the same sleep position preferences.
  • Environmentally conscious shoppers. The Luxury Bliss Mattress uses eco-friendly materials with multiple industry environmental certifications.
  • Couples wanting to make full use of the mattress surface. The Luxury Bliss Mattress’s sturdy edge may make it easier to sit or sleep near the perimeter.

Not Recommended for...

  • Sleepers who are easily awoken by their partner moving during the night. While the Luxury Bliss absorbs some motion and performed well in our tests, we did not feel it excelled in this category like it did in our other performance categories.
  • People who want the hug of memory foam. The Luxury Bliss offers contouring and pressure relief, but it doesn’t provide the hug often associated with memory foam.
  • Shoppers on a tight budget. The Luxury Bliss is luxury model that uses premium materials, and it carries with it a higher price than many mattresses on the market.

Ratings Summary

Our testing team conducted an extensive evaluation of the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. Our review and rating process consists of three parts: in-house evaluation, overnight sleep testing, and data collection of verified owner experiences. To learn more about our review process, read our methodology here.

Our performance criteria and ratings for the bed are listed in the table below.

Our testers felt the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress performed exceptionally well in our performance categories. It excelled most in the edge support, sex, durability, and off-gassing categories. The Luxury Bliss really stood out in the durability, noise, and off-gassing categories. For for additional information on how the Luxury Bliss Mattress performed in our tests and how we determined its ratings, see below.

Sleep Position Ratings

As part of our ratings process, we evaluated the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress across different body types and preferred sleep positions. In addition to physical testing, we surveyed our sleep expert team and analyzed reviews from verified mattress owners and customers. Our findings are listed in the table below.

For more information on sleeping positions please see our guides for side, back, stomach, and combination sleepers.

How Is the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress Constructed?

Cover

The cover of the mattress is made with organic cotton. This cover is stretched rather than woven to allow it to move with the comfort layer to provide a softer feel. Underneath the cover, there is a layer of Joma Wool. This layer acts as a fire barrier while also providing some plushness and wicking moisture.

Comfort Layers

Both firmness options of the Luxury Bliss Mattress use 3 inches of organic Dunlop latex for the comfort layer. Dunlop latex is a durable material with a springier feel than memory foam.

The comfort layer of the medium version of the mattress has an ILD of 24-26. The medium-firm version’s comfort layer is 29-31 ILD. ILD stands for “indentation load deflection.” This measure is often used to judge the firmness of mattress materials. The medium version of the mattress provides moderate conforming and some sinking, while the medium-firm version also provides moderate conforming but minimal sinking.

Support Layers

The support layer is constructed of 8 inches of coils. The coils are encased in fabric, allowing them to move independently of each other to provide even support without transferring motion between coils.

Mattress Height

The Luxury Bliss Mattress is 12 inches thick, so it is high-profile and may require deep pocket sheets. This allows ample space for both the comfort and support layers. The comfort layer is thick enough to provide pressure relief, while the base layer is substantial enough to provide support for all weight groups, including heavier individuals.

What Are the Firmness and Feel Like?

The Luxury Bliss is available in medium (5.5) and medium-firm (6.5) on the 1-10 firmness scale. Both of these firmness options are right around the range most sleepers tend to prefer.

Latex has low point elasticity. While materials with high point elasticity compress primarily directly under a person’s weight, materials with low point elasticity spread the compression across a wider surface area. High point elasticity can make sleepers feel like they are sleeping “in” the bed, while low point elasticity usually creates the sensation of sleeping “on” the bed.

The Luxury Bliss Mattress’s Dunlop latex comfort layer has relatively low point elasticity, so sleepers may experience a floating feeling rather than the hug often associated with memory foam. Our testers found the Luxury Bliss Mattress provided moderate conforming and noticeable bounce.

Ratings Breakdown

Performance Ratings

Next, let’s take a closer look at our performance ratings for the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress. These ratings are based on findings from our internal and external testing teams, as well as reviews from verified mattress owners.

Durability

Latex hybrid mattresses tend to be exceptionally long-lived, and we would expect the Luxury Bliss Mattress to follow this trend. Dunlop latex is usually more durable than Talalay, so the comfort layer should hold up well and resist impressions over time. The mattress’s 25-year limited warranty provides additional protection.

Motion Isolation

To test the Luxury Bliss Mattress’ motion isolation, we had two testers lie on the bed together. While one tester rolled around, the other felt for movement. During these tests, we found that the Luxury Bliss transferred some motion across the surface of the bed.

Our overnight testers who sleep with partners reported similar results. They noted that they could feel movement across the surface of the bed when their partner got into or out of bed or changed position. They didn’t feel that the motion transfer was significant enough to hamper their sleep, however.

This motion transfer is likely due to a combination of factors. Latex’s low point elasticity spreads more of the compression across the surface, which could cause one partner to feel the other partner’s movements. While the pocketed coils do a good job preventing motion from transferring between coils, the added bounce of the coil layer may also add to the spread of motion across the sleep surface.

Off-Gassing

When our testers first unpackaged the Luxury Bliss Mattress, they noted virtually no odor. After 24 hours, they found the slight initial smell had dissipated completely.

Pressure Relief

We placed a pressure-sensing pad on the surface of the Luxury Bliss Mattress and asked sleepers from different weight groups to lie on it to measure pressure build-up.

Across all weight groups, we found the Luxury Bliss provided very good cradling and pressure relief with minimal pressure build-up. The most notable pressure build-up occurred for our lightweight sleepers while lying on their sides on the medium-firm version of the mattress. Some slight pressure built up around their hips and shoulders in this sleep position.

Temperature Neutrality

Our testers who tend to sleep hot felt the Luxury Bliss Mattress slept cool enough for a comfortable night’s sleep.

The organic cotton cover and the wool layer helped wick moisture away from their bodies while allowing enough airflow to help regulate temperature. The open cell structure of the natural latex comfort layer provided additional breathability. The coil support layer also allowed for airflow through the base of the bed.

Edge Support

Our testers from different weight groups sat near the perimeter of the Luxury Bliss Mattress to check for edge support. All of our testers noted very little sinkage, making it easier for them to get into and out of bed.

When our testers lied near the perimeter of the mattress, they noted a similarly sturdy feel. This extra support made them feel like they could use the full surface of the Luxury Bliss Mattress without fearing that they may accidentally roll off the bed.

The Luxury Bliss’ edge is reinforced with a higher number of coils around the perimeter, giving the mattress its exceptionally supportive edge.

Noise

During our tests, the Luxury Bliss Mattress produced virtually no discernable sound. We would expect the mattress to continue to be very quiet throughout its life. However, since coils sometimes creak as they age, it may not always be as quiet as it is right out of the box.

Sex

The Luxury Bliss’s latex comfort layer is bouncier and more responsive than memory foam. Since the material springs back quickly, it may be easier to move across the surface of the bed. The coil layer provides additional bounce, which may be beneficial for sexual activity. The reinforced edge may also make it easier to use the full bed surface. Because the mattress is quite quiet, it should allow discreet amorous activity.

Sleeper Ratings

Most sleepers’ firmness and thickness preferences are influenced largely by their weight and favored sleep position. Our team evaluated the Luxury Bliss Mattress with sleepers of different body types and position preferences to gather additional insight into how the Luxury Bliss Mattress may perform for different individuals.

Lightweight Sleepers – Less than 130 lbs.

Our lightweight sleep testers found the Luxury Bliss Mattress performed well for all sleep positions, giving the mattress the highest marks of any of our weight groups. They preferred the medium version to the medium-firm version of the mattress, feeling the softer comfort layer allowed them to sink in more. While they felt the medium-firm version also performed well, it created some pressure points, particularly for side sleepers.

When sleeping on their sides, our lightweight testers felt the medium version of the mattress was very comfortable. However, they experienced some slight pressure around their shoulders and hips, rating this position slightly lower than the other two sleep positions.

Our lightweight back and stomach sleepers rated the Luxury Bliss Mattress as “excellent.” The 3-inch comfort layer provided a good balance of contouring and support without feeling excessively hard.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 to 230 lbs.

Our average weight sleepers found both firmness options of the Luxury Bliss Mattress comfortable. Sleep position and personal preference influence which firmness option they favored.

Our side sleepers preferred the medium version of the mattress, which allowed them to sink in a little more, reducing the pressure on their hips and shoulders.

When sleeping on their backs and stomachs, our sleep testers’ firmness preferences varied based on whether they enjoyed a softer or firmer feel. Our testers felt both versions of the mattress provided sufficient support to keep their spines aligned.

Heavyweight Sleepers – More than 230 lbs.

Our heavyweight sleep testers found the medium-firm version of the Luxury Bliss Mattress most comfortable. They felt the firmer comfort layer allowed them to sink in just the right amount to enjoy both contouring and support.

Our side sleepers were particularly enthusiastic about the mattress. The Dunlop latex comfort layer and coil support layer worked together to cradle their hips and shoulders without allowing them to sink in too deeply.

When sleeping on their backs and stomachs, our heavyweight sleepers also experienced good support but felt that their midsections may have sunk in slightly more than ideal.

How Does the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress Compare to Other Beds?

Comparing mattresses head-to-head can make it easier to see the key differences between similar models. We’ll highlight some of the features that vary between the Luxury Bliss and six similar mattress models.

PlushBeds Luxury Bliss vs. PlushBeds Botanical Bliss

The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss Mattress is one of the two all-latex models by PlushBeds. Like the Luxury Bliss, the Botanical Bliss uses organic latex and organic cotton. The Botanical Bliss uses organic wool, while the Luxury Bliss uses Joma Wool. Both mattresses come in the same firmness options: Medium (5.5) and Medium-Firm (6.5). The Botanical Bliss Mattress can be unzipped to reposition the layers for slight adjustments in firmness.

The most notable difference between the two mattresses is that the Luxury Bliss uses pocketed coils in its support layer, while the Botanical Bliss uses Dunlop latex. These construction differences give the Luxury Bliss extra bounce and edge support and make the Botanical Bliss exceptionally quiet.

The Luxury Bliss is a high-profile model at 12 inches thick. The Botanical Bliss has three thickness options: 9 inches, 10 inches, and 12 inches, so it can also accommodate sleepers who prefer an average profile mattress.

PlushBeds Luxury Bliss vs. PlushBeds Natural Bliss

The PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress is another all-latex model. The Natural Bliss is constructed of natural latex, organic cotton, and a plant-based fire barrier.

While the Luxury Bliss features a support core of pocketed coils, the Natural Bliss’s support core is constructed of Dunlop latex. Our testers found the Luxury Bliss had a springier feel and greater edge support, while the Natural Bliss was quieter.

The Natural Bliss comes in four firmness options and three thickness options. Because there is an option that is softer than the Luxury Bliss and an option that is firmer than the Luxury Bliss, it may appeal to sleepers whose firmness preferences fall outside the middle of the range. However, across weight groups, our sleep testers gave the Luxury Bliss higher marks.

PlushBeds Luxury Bliss vs. Avocado

Like the Luxury Bliss, the Avocado Mattress is a latex hybrid model. The Avocado combines organic Dunlop latex, organic wool, organic cotton, and a pocketed coil support core.

The Avocado Mattress comes in two firmness options. Without a pillow top, the Avocado Mattress is firm (7) and 11 inches thick. With a pillow top, it is medium-firm (6.5) and 13 inches thick. Due to its firmness, the Avocado earned higher marks from our back sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds. However, our testers who weigh under 130 pounds preferred the softer feel of the Luxury Bliss.

The Avocado’s firmer feel also led to some key differences in the performance of these two similarly constructed mattresses. Because sleepers do not sink in as deeply, the Avocado Mattress slept cooler. However, the extra cradling from the softer Luxury Bliss Mattress earned it higher marks for pressure relief.

PlushBeds Luxury Bliss vs. EcoCloud

Like the Luxury Bliss Mattress, the EcoCloud Mattress by WinkBeds is constructed of an organic cotton cover, a layer of wool, a latex comfort layer, and a support core of pocketed coils.

While the Luxury Bliss uses Dunlop latex in its comfort layer, the EcoCloud uses Talalay latex. Talalay has a slightly bouncier, more responsive feel, while Dunlop is usually denser and slightly more durable. Additionally, the EcoCloud’s support layer is zoned to provide targeted support for heavier parts of the body, like the midsection.

The EcoCloud rates around 6 on the 10-point firmness scale, falling between the Luxury Bliss’s two firmness options. Both mattresses are high-profile, with the EcoCloud measuring 13 inches thick, which is slightly thicker than the Luxury Bliss.

Our stomach sleepers from all weight groups rated the Luxury Bliss higher than the EcoCloud. Our lightweight and average weight back sleepers also preferred the Luxury Bliss, as did our heavyweight side sleepers.

PlushBeds Luxury Bliss vs. Awara

The Awara Mattress is constructed with a wool and organic cotton cover, a Dunlop latex comfort layer, and a pocketed coil support system. The Awara Mattress rates 6 on the firmness scale and measures 13 inches thick. This firmness is between the two firmness options of the Luxury Bliss.

The Awara’s top layer is 4 inches thick, which is 1 inch thicker than the Luxury Bliss’s comfort layer. The Awara also has a Euro-top cover, providing extra plushness. This extra thickness in the comfort system allows sleepers to sink in more, which may be particularly beneficial for sleepers over 230 pounds.

Our heavyweight back and stomach sleeper testers gave the Awara higher marks than the Luxury Bliss, while our lightweight and average-weight testers favored the Luxury Bliss.

PlushBeds Luxury Bliss vs. EcoSleep

Brooklyn Bedding’s EcoSleep Mattress is another latex hybrid model that includes organic cotton, Joma Wool, and natural latex.

The EcoSleep’s flippable design allows sleepers to select between a medium-firm (6) side and a firm (7) side, making it a good option for sleepers whose preferences may change over time. However, both firmness options may be a bit firm for lightweight sleepers and sleepers who favor a plusher sleep surface.

Like the Luxury Bliss Mattress, our testers gave the Ecosleep excellent ratings in our durability and sex categories. However, the Luxury Bliss earned higher marks for off-gassing, pressure relief, edge support, and noise.

Our average weight side sleepers rated the Luxury Bliss and EcoSleep equally well. However, the Luxury Bliss earned higher marks for all other weight groups and sleep positions, which may make it a good choice for couples from different weight groups who have different sleep preferences.
