Quick Summary – Amerisleep AS3 vs. Tempur-Pedic Cloud Series

Amerisleep was founded in 2007. The brand currently offers five different mattress models. We’ve chosen the AS3 (formerly known as the Liberty) for this comparison because it is considered ‘Medium’ in terms of firmness, or a 5.5 on the 1-10 firmness scale, and offers the best balance of body conforming and sleeper support. The AS3 is constructed with a memory foam comfort layer, a dual-layer polyfoam support core, and a cover made of polyester, Celliant fabric, and spandex.

Tempur-Pedic has been in business since 1992. The brand currently sells 11 mattress models, most of which belong to exclusive collections. For this page we’ve chosen the four mattress models belonging to the Cloud Series: the Cloud Elite, Cloud Luxe, Cloud Supreme Breeze, and Cloud Luxe Breeze. All four models are made with memory foam comfort layers, high-density polyfoam support cores, and polyester covers. They are all ‘Soft’ (3) in terms of firmness, as well.

Please note: Both Tempur-Pedic and Amerisleep offer other mattresses in addition to the models listed above:

  • Tempur-Pedic’s other offerings include three memory foam models in the Contour Series, three memory foam models – two of which are also sold as hybrids – in the Adapt Series, and the standalone GrandBed, which is also a memory foam model.
  • Amerisleep offers four other memory foam mattresses, each with a different firmness: the AS1 (7.5), AS2 (6.5), AS4 (4.5), and AS5 (3.5).

This page will solely focus on the Amerisleep AS3 and Tempur-Pedic Cloud Series mattresses. For more information on other mattresses from these brands, check out our Amerisleep Mattress Reviews and Tempur-Pedic Mattress Reviews pages.

The Amerisleep AS3 and mattresses in Tempur-Pedic’s Cloud Series share many similarities in terms of construction, firmness, and thickness, but these beds also differ in several key ways. This page will look at the unique pros and cons of both brands in terms of mattress ratings, pricing, customer policies, and other important factors.

Mattress Construction

Now let’s take a look at how these mattresses are made. The next table lists firmness, thickness, and composition specs for the Amerisleep AS3 and all Cloud Series beds. Please note that Tempur-Pedic does not disclose certain specifications for mattresses, including individual layer thicknesses or foam densities.

How is the Amerisleep AS3 built?

The AS3 from Amerisleep is constructed with a 3″ memory foam comfort layer with a density of 4 PCF. The material offers a ‘Medium’ feel and close conforming, which can improve spinal alignment for sleepers and alleviate pressure points throughout their bodies. The mattress also has a stretchy cover made from a blend of polyester and Celliant fabric, which provides good temperature neutrality by absorbing less body heat and maintaining a cool surface.

The AS3’s support core measures 9″ thick, consisting of a 2″ transitional polyfoam layer and a 7″ high-density polyfoam base layer. This relatively thick core reinforces the bed very well, resulting in better sleeper and edge support than many of the AS3’s all-foam competitors. However, this support core also makes the mattress heavier than average; it weighs 88 pounds in a Queen-size, making it difficult for many owners to lift and rotate as recommended.

How are Tempur-Pedic Cloud Series mattresses built?

The four models in Tempur-Pedic’s Cloud Series – the Cloud Elite, Cloud Luxe, Cloud Supreme Breeze, and Cloud Luxe Breeze – share many similarities. All four are designed with memory foam comfort layers, single-layer high-density polyfoam support cores, and polyester covers. Additionally, these four beds are each considered ‘Soft’ (3); as a result, they offer deep body conforming and are most suitable for lighter individuals and side sleepers.

Thickness is one way these beds differ. The Cloud Supreme Breeze measures 11 1/2″ thick; the Cloud Elite and Cloud Luxe Breeze measure 12 1/2″; and the Cloud Luxe measures 13 1/2″. All four – like the AS3 – are considered thicker than average.

Amerisleep AS3 Sleeper Ratings

The AS3 is ‘Medium’ (5.5), and provides a balance of close conforming and well-reinforced sleeper support. This makes the mattress ideal for sleepers weighing between 130 and 230 pounds, as well as lighter or heavier individuals who like the ‘Medium’ feel. Side sleepers may also enjoy the AS3, which conforms closely enough to help align the spine and alleviate pressure points that often result from this position. The AS3 provides great motion isolation and does not make any noise when bearing weight. It also sleeps much cooler than the average all-foam mattess due to the Celliant fabric in its cover.

Tempur-Pedic Cloud Series Sleeper Ratings

Because they are ‘Soft’ (3), all four mattresses in the Cloud Series are optimal for people who weigh less than 130 pounds – particularly side sleepers, who often need softer surfaces for sufficient spinal alignment. Those in the average weight group (130 to 230 pounds) who like closely conforming surfaces may also find models in the Cloud Series comfortable. However, sleepers who weigh more than 230 pounds are likely to find these mattresses too soft and prone to sagging. The Cloud Series models offer great motion isolation and produce no noise when bearing weight. They are also considerably more durable than other memory foam beds; the expected lifespan is at least seven years.
