What You Need to Know about the Amerisleep Mattress

Mattress Type and Components:

  • Amerisleep offers memory foam mattresses.
  • Currently, five  different Amerisleep mattress models are available; each model has recently been renamed (the original product names are included in each description). These models vary by thickness, firmness rating, and foam density.
    • The AS1 (formerly known as the Americana) features one layer of 4 PCF memory foam in the comfort system and a support core made of 1.8 PCF polyfoam. This is the shortest and firmest mattress in Amerisleep’s current selection.
    • The AS2 (formerly known as the Revere) is constructed with a single layer of 4 PCF memory foam in the comfort layer. The support core has a top layer of  ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 PCF polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
    • The AS3 (formerly known as the Liberty) features one layer of 4 PCF memory foam in the comfort layer. The support core has a top layer of contoured ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
    • The AS4 (formerly known as the Colonial) has a four-inch layer of 4 PCF memory foam. The support core features a top layer of contoured ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
    • The AS5 (formerly known as the Independence) is the thickest and softest mattress in Amerisleep’s current collection. It is designed with two layers in the comfort system: a top layer of 4 PCF memory foam, and a bottom layer of 3 PCF polyfoam. The support core has a top layer of contoured ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
  • For all five models, the cover is made from a blend of polyester, Celliant fabric, and spandex.

Pros:

  • Multiple thickness and firmness options
  • Above-average conforming and motion isolation for most models
  • Celliant fiber used in cover has health benefits, including increased tissue oxygenation, improved circulation, and body temperature regulation
  • Free shipping and convenient return policy
  • Low-cost 20-year warranty

Cons:

  • Questionable durability
  • Poor edge support
  • Some models too soft or too firm
  • Above-average price-points compared to other memory foam models
  • Mandatory break-in period with sleep trial

The AS3, AS4, and AS5 earned above-average customer satisfaction ratings compared to other memory foam mattresses, while the AS1 and AS2 earned below-average ratings.
Durability Memory foam is engineered to provide a comfortable, conforming sleep surface that retains its original shape over time, but indentations are to be expected.Fair (All models)Owners claim that Amerisleep mattresses tend to degrade faster than other memory foam models.
Motion IsolationMemory foam mattresses have been touted for superior motion isolation, which means that motion does not occur throughout the mattress when someone gets up or shifts their position.Very Good (All models)Amerisleep mattresses absorb and minimize motion transfer to a significant extent, which some owners say has helped cut down on nighttime sleep disruptoons.
Sex Memory foam mattresses are not responsive or bouncy enough for sex, according to most couples; firmer models tend to be best.Fair (AS3, AS4, AS5)
Good (AS1, AS2)
The ASI and AS2 are fairly firm and bouncy, and may be responsive enough for some couples, but Amerisleep’s other three models are less suitable for sex.
ConformingMemory foam mattresses are engineered to conform to the sleeper’s figure, creating a cradle-shaped impression that aligns the spine and targets pressure points.Good (AS1, AS2)
Very Good (AS3, AS4, AS5)
The AS3, AS4, and AS4 are the least firm Amerisleep options; these models conform quite closely for targeted pain and pressure relief. The AS1 and AS2 conform less, but owners claim they alleivate pain and pressure to some extent.
Temperature NeutralityMemory foam retains more body heat than other mattress materials, and users often ‘sleep hot’ as a result.Fair (All models)Amerisleep mattresses retain relatively high levels of body heat and, as a result, sleep fairly hot.
Off-gassingSome mattresses emit particles when they are unpackaged, accompanied by unpleasant ‘off-gassing’ smells that can last for days.Good (All models)Minor off-gassing odors have been reported for Amerisleep mattresses, but these smells usually dissipate quickly.
Edge SupportBecause of their construction, memory foam mattresses often feature little to no edge support.Poor (All models)Amerisleep customer reports indicate these mattresses offer little to no edge support, and may prematurely sink at the edges where people tend to sit.
NoiseMemory foam mattresses create little to no noise, due to their lack of springs, coils, and other metal componentsExcellent (All models)All five Amerisleep memory foam mattresses are virtually silent when bearing weight.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMemory foam mattresses tend to be lighter, which makes them easier to move. They never need to be flipped, since only one side is designed for sleeping.Fair (All models)Amerisleep mattresses are relatively heavy compared to similar memory foam models, which may cause difficulty when rotating as recommended.

How Is the Mattress Shipped?: Amerisleep mattresses are compressed, vacuum-sealed, and shipped in a box. Box weights vary by size and model. Owners should allow at least four to six hours for the mattress to fully expand after unpackaging, though this process may take up to 24 hours.
Where Do They Ship?: Amerisleep ships mattresses free-of-charge to any address in the contiguous 48 states. Amerisleep provides deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and select overseas locations; customers should call the Amerisleep customer service number for more information about shipping rates for these locations.
Delivery Fee: No charge within the continental U.S. Variable shipping charges will be assessed for deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and other overseas addresses.

Delivery Policy: The delivery policy for Amerisleep mattresses is as follows:

  1. Amerisleep provides curbside delivery through FedEx. Most mattresses ship to the customer’s address within three to five business days of the original purchase.
  2. Customers will be able to cancel their mattress order free-of-charge if it has not yet been shipped from the Amerisleep warehouse. If the mattress has already shipped, then customers may contact Amerisleep to stop the deliverycancel their order and receive a refund.
  3. Customers will be able to track their Amerisleep order by signing into their customer account on the Amerisleep website or contacting the company over the phone or via email.
  4. For most orders, freight agents will contact the purchaser and schedule a four-hour window period for the date of delivery. Freight agents do not provide assistance with moving the mattress inside the residence, unpackaging, or in-home assembly.
  5. Most mattress orders will not require a customer signature, and adults do not need to be present at the time of the curbside delivery.
  6. Amerisleep does not ship mattresses to army/air post offices (APOs) or P.O. boxes.

Warranty: Amerisleep offers a 20-year warranty on all mattresses.

  1. The warranty coverage is divided into nonprorated and prorated periods.
    • The first 10 years of warranty coverage are nonprorated, and defective mattresses will be repaired or replaced at no cost to the owner (including shipping and handling charges).
    • The last 10 years of warranty coverage will be prorated. Defective mattresses will be replaced at a rate of 50% of the original mattress price. Owners will also be responsible for shipping and handling costs. This rate remains consistent for the last 10 years of warranty coverage.
  2. Amerisleep mattresses are designed for use on a ‘solid wood, non-spring, completely flat foundation or bed platform’. The warranty will be voided if the mattress is used on an improper foundation, platform, or box spring. Additionally, customers who file a warranty claim must provide proof that a suitable foundation has been used to support the mattress.
  3. The Amerisleep mattress warranty will cover the following defects:
    • Indentations in the sleep surface that measure three-quarters of an inch (3/4″) or deeper.
    • Split or cracked foam that occurs despite proper use and foundational support.
  4. The Amerisleep warranty will not cover the following:
    • ‘Normal increases’ in the softness of the memory foam that do not affect its pressure-relieving abilities, or indentations that do not measure at least three-quarters of an inch (3/4″). These issues are considered standard wear and tear.
    • Burns, stains, cuts, burns, and other types of damage that do not occur during the manufacturing or shipping phases.
    • Damage that occurs due to improper foundational support.
  5. Amerisleep reserves the right to refuse to repair or replace a mattress that has been deemed to be unsanitary.
  6. The Amerisleep warranty is exclusively offered to the original purchaser. Anyone who buys or acquires the mattress from the original owner does so ‘as is’, and will not receive warranty coverage. Proof of original purchase is required for all warranty claims.
