What You Need to Know about the Amerisleep Mattress

Mattress Type and Components:

  • Amerisleep offers memory foam mattresses. Currently, five  different Amerisleep mattress models are available; each model shares the same construction as another Amerisleep mattress sold under a different name. These models vary by thickness, firmness rating, and foam density.
    • The AS1 (formerly known as the Americana) features one layer of 4 PCF memory foam in the comfort system and a support core made of 1.8 PCF polyfoam. This is the shortest and firmest mattress in Americana’s current selection.
    • The AS2 (formerly known as the Revere) is constructed with a single layer of 4 PCF memory foam in the comfort layer. The support core has a top layer of  ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 PCF polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
    • The AS3 (formerly known as the Liberty) features one layer of 4 PCF memory foam in the comfort layer. The support core has a top layer of contoured ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
    • The AS4 (formerly known as the Colonial) has a four-inch layer of 4 PCF memory foam. The support core features a top layer of contoured ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
    • The AS5 (formerly known as the Independence) is the thickest and softest mattress in Amerisleep’s current inventory. It is designed with two layers in the comfort system: a top layer of 4 PCF memory foam, and a bottom layer of 3 PCF polyfoam. The support core has a top layer of contoured ‘Surface Modification Technology’ 1.65 polyfoam and a bottom layer of 1.8 PCF polyfoam.
  • For all five models, the cover is made from a blend of polyester, Celliant fabric, and spandex.

Pros:

  • Amerisleep offers five mattress models, each one with a different firmness rating, to accommodate a wider range of comfort preferences.
  • Amerisleep models offer better-than-average motion isolation and are virtually silent.
  • Owners report close conforming and effective pressure relief.
  • The 20-year warranty includes 10 years of nonprorated coverage, and Amerisleep will cover shipping and transportation costs for repairs and replacements during this 10-year period.

Cons:

  • Amerisleep mattresses are constructed with relatively low-density foam, and owners say the overall lifespan is short compared to similar memory foam models.
  • The mattresses offer minimal edge support and sleep relatively hot.
  • The price-point for Amerisleep mattresses is above-average compared to competing manufacturers.
  • In order to return an Amerisleep mattress as part of the 100-night trial offer, owners must use the mattress for at least 30 nights; this can potentially cause confusion for customers who don’t read the fine print.

How Is the Mattress Shipped?: Amerisleep mattresses are compressed, vacuum-sealed, and shipped in a box. Box weights vary by size and model. Owners should allow at least four to six hours for the mattress to fully expand after unpackaging, though this process may take up to 24 hours.
Where Do They Ship?: Amerisleep ships mattresses free-of-charge to any address in the contiguous 48 states. Amerisleep provides deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and select overseas locations; customers should call the Amerisleep customer service number for more information about shipping rates for these locations.
Delivery Fee: No charge within the continental U.S. Variable shipping charges will be assessed for deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and other overseas addresses.

Delivery Policy: The delivery policy for Amerisleep mattresses is as follows:

  1. Amerisleep provides curbside delivery through FedEx. Most mattress deliveries will reach the customer’s address within three to five business days of the original purchase.
  2. Customers will be able to cancel their mattress order free-of-charge if it has not yet been shipped from the Amerisleep warehouse. If the mattress has already shipped, then customers will be able to cancel their order by paying a restocking fee that amounts to 25% of the original purchase, as well as shipping fees to and from the warehouse.
  3. Customers will be able to track their Amerisleep order by signing into their customer account on the Amerisleep website or contacting the company over the phone or via email.
  4. For most orders, freight agents will contact the purchaser and schedule a four-hour window period for the date of delivery. Freight agents do not provide assistance with moving the mattress inside the residence, unpackaging, or in-home assembly.
  5. Most mattress orders will not require a customer signature, and no adults need to be present at the time of the curbside delivery.
  6. Amerisleep does not ship mattresses to army/air post offices (APOs) or P.O. boxes.

Old Mattress Removal: Because FedEx provides their deliveries, Amerisleep does not offer old mattress removal services.
Availability: Amerisleep mattresses are available on the Amerisleep website, as well as Amazon.com. Amerisleep also operates a brick-and-mortar showroom in Scottsdale, Arizona, where customers can test out mattresses, make purchases, and arrange deliveries.

Sleep Trial and Warranty Information

Trial Period and Guarantee: Amerisleep offers a 100-night sleep trial for all mattresses.

  1. Customers are required to own and test out the mattress for at least 30 nights before they will be eligible to return their mattress.
  2. Those who decide to return their mattress will qualify for a full refund, and Amerisleep will also cover shipping, handling, and restocking costs. The refund will be processed within three to five business days after the mattress has been picked up.
  3. Mattress exchanges are available as part of the 100-night trial. If the mattress has not been shipped yet, then customers can upgrade/downgrade their order as needed. After the mattress has shipped, customers will be able to exchange their mattress for a different model after 30 nights have elapsed.
  4. Customers who accidentally select the wrong size during their purchase will not be able to return or exchange their mattress.
  5. Customers who return their mattress do not need to repackage the item; Amerisleep will arrange for free pickup services, including repackaging.
  6. All returned mattresses will be recycled or donated to charity.
  7. The 100-night trial is exclusively reserved for customers who purchase their mattresses directly from Amerisleep. Those who buy an Amerisleep mattress on Amazon.com will qualify for that company’s standard 30-night trial period, which will be coordinated through Amazon representatives.

Warranty: Amerisleep offers a 20-year warranty on all mattresses.

  1. The warranty coverage is divided into nonprorated and prorated periods.
    • The first 10 years of warranty coverage are nonprorated, and defective mattresses will be repaired or replaced at no cost to the owner (including shipping and handling charges).
    • The last 10 years of warranty coverage will be prorated. Defective mattresses will be replaced at a rate of 5% of the original mattress price for each year of ownership. For example, a customer who has owned the mattress for 11 years will be able to replace their mattress at a rate of 55% of the original price. Additionally, the owner will bear all shipping and transportation fees in addition to prorated charges.
  2. Amerisleep mattresses are designed for use on a ‘solid wood, non-spring, completely flat foundation or bed platform’. The warranty will be voided if the mattress is used on an improper foundation, platform, or box spring. Additionally, customers who file a warranty claim must provide proof that a suitable foundation has been used to support the mattress.
  3. The Amerisleep mattress warranty will cover the following defects:
    • Indentations in the sleep surface that measure 0.75 inches or deeper.
    • Split or cracked foam that occurs despite proper use and foundational support.
  4. The Amerisleep warranty will not cover the following:
    • ‘Normal increases’ in the softness of the memory foam that do not affect its pressure-relieving abilities, or indentations that do not measure at least 0.75 inches. These are both considered standard wear and tear.
    • Burns, stains, cuts, burns, and other types of damage that do not occur during the manufacturing or shipping phases.
    • Damage that occurs due to improper foundational support.
  5. Amerisleep reserves the right to refuse to repair or replace a mattress that has been deemed to be unsanitary.
  6. The Amerisleep warranty is exclusively offered to the original purchaser. Anyone who buys or acquires the mattress from the original owner does so ‘as is’, and will not receive warranty coverage. Proof of original purchase is required for all warranty claims.

Amerisleep Mattress Sleep Ratings

Customer SatisfactionBased on data collection, this is an overall customer sentiment regarding the Amerisleep mattress.68 (AS2)
71 (AS1)
73 (AS4)
75 (AS5)
81 (AS3)
According to our customer feedback, the AS3, AS4, and AS5 earned above-average ratings compared to other memory foam mattresses, while the AS1 and AS2 earned below-average ratings.
Durability Memory foam is engineered to provide a comfortable, conforming sleep surface that retains its original shape over time, but indentations are to be expected.FairOwners report that Amerisleep mattresses tend to degrade faster than similar memory foam models; foam density appears to be one of the primary reasons for the relatively short lifespan.
Motion IsolationMemory foam mattresses have been touted for superior motion isolation, which means that motion does not occur throughout the mattress when someone gets up or shifts their position.Very GoodAmerisleep mattresses minimize motion transfer to a significant extent, according to our customer reviews.
Sex Many memory foam users report that these mattresses are not very conducive for sex due to the lack of responsiveness, which can create a feeling of ‘fighting’ the mattress.FairReports indicate that Amerisleep mattresses — like most memory foam models — are less than ideal for sex, particularly the models rated for medium firmness or lower.
ConformingMemory foam mattresses are engineered to conform to the sleeper’s figure, creating a cradle-shaped impression that aligns the spine and targets pressure points.Very GoodCustomers claim that Amerisleep mattresses conform closely and effectively relieve pressure, and a wide range of firmness levels will allow most customers to find a mattress that conforms to their preferred level.
Temperature NeutralityMemory foam retains more body heat than other mattress materials, and users often ‘sleep hot’ as a result.FairOwners say Amerisleep mattresses retain relatively high levels of body heat and, as a result, sleep somewhat hot.
Off-gassingSome mattresses emit particles when they are unpackaged, accompanied by unpleasant ‘off-gassing’ smells that can last for days.GoodMinor off-gassing odors have been reported for Amerisleep mattresses, but these smells will dissipate rather quickly.
Edge SupportBecause of their construction, memory foam mattresses often feature little to no edge support.PoorAmerisleep customer reports indicate these mattresses offer little to no edge support, and may prematurely sink at the edges where people tend to sit.
NoiseMemory foam mattresses create little to no noise, due to their lack of springs, coils, and other metal componentsExcellentAll five Amerisleep memory foam mattresses are virtually silent.
Ease of Moving and RotatingMemory foam mattresses tend to be lighter, which makes them easier to move. They never need to be flipped, since only one side is designed for sleeping.FairAmerisleep mattresses are relatively heavy compared to similar memory foam models, which may cause difficulty when rotating as recommended.
